Quick Installation Guide
The MAX1000 IP PBX is an all-in-one communication system embedded
with the following Digital Signal Processor (DSP) processing power:
• 30 VoIP CODEC channels (G.711/G.723.1/G.729AB) for IP phone,
IP Tie-trunk, and SIP trunk service
• Dedicated voice processing (VM/AA) and voice recording resource for
every trunk, extension, VoIP channel.
• 2 extension-based conference bridges (6 parties per conference)
• 2 MeetMe conference bridges (total 12 members maximum)
• 2 silent monitor/barge-in/coach channels for workgroup supervisor
• Music on hold (input source can be either a file or audio-in port)
• Paging (IP paging, audio-out port, trunk/station port paging)
The MAX1000 has two Access Board slots.
Available Access Board options are:
• ALTI-M0404-T1E1 (4 analog trunks, 4 analog exts. and 1 T1/E1)**
• ALTI-M0408 (4 analog trunks and 8 analog extensions)**
• ALTI-M0804 (8 analog trunks and 4 analog extensions)**
• ALTI-M0012 (12 analog extensions)
** The first four analog trunk ports will be connected to the first four
analog extension ports when the switching software is shut down for
maintenance or because of power loss.
Notes:
• MAX1000 only supports one T1/E1 port per system.
Introduction
Preparing for Installation
The following equipment and accessories are required for the system
installation:
1. AC surge protector
2. Uninterrupted Power Supply (recommended)
3. Earth grounding source and #16 AWG grounding wire
4. Monitor
5. RJ-45 LAN cable
6. 50-pin Telco cable (Male-to-Male) for terminating analog trunks
and extensions
7. DSU or DSU/CSU for T1 termination
8. RJ-45 T1/E1 cable
The MAX1000 is a 19” rack mountable 2U chassis. It also can be placed
on top of a flat surface or be mounted on a wall with a special bracket
unit.
Option A: For placing the MAX1000 on a flat surface, please install the
four rubber pads to the bottom of the chassis to avoid sliding.
Option B: For mounting the MAX1000 on a 19” rack, please first install
the two rack-mount ears to the side of the chassis to secure the system
on the rack.
System Mounting Options
Warning: Do not use only rack-mount ears to support the MAX1000
when mounting on a rack. It may cause damage to the chassis. A rack
mount shelf is required!

Option C: For mounting the MAX1000 on a wall, please use wall mount
bracket from AltiGen, part number ALTI-MAXWMB.

Warning:
Before adding or removing an access board, shut
down system and turn off power. The power switch
is located at the back of the chassis.
Install ONLY AltiGen-certified anti-virus and other software programs.
The following programs are AltiGen-certified:
•AVG Antivirus by Grisoft – http://www.grisoft.com
•LogMeIn remote access – http://secure.logmein.com
AltiGen-Certified Anti-virus and Remote Access
Warning:
DO NOT install Norton Antivirus Personal Version or Corporate
Edition in MAX1000. They are NOT compatible with the XP
Embedded OS.

The 50-pin Telco connector (RJ-21X) on the access board requires a
standard Telco cable (Male-to-Male) to connect to a punch down block
(66 Block) or a 24-port patch panel.
Option A: 66 punch down block with Female connector
Option B: Patch panel
To meet UL safety requirements, you must connect a #16 AWG ground
wire to an earth ground point and to the system grounding screw
before connecting to a CO line.
Analog Ports Wiring Options:
Refer to the following pinout specification when wiring punch down
block or patch panel to CO trunk or phones.
Grounding
Access Board LED Status
The MAX Access Board has two green LED indicators (A & B) to show
the switch software control and telephony power supply status. The
LED A and B are located at the left side of the Access Board.
LED A Status
ON The embedded DSP Board is running and the Access
Board is connecting to the DSP board properly.
Normal operation is ON.
OFF 1. The embedded DSP Board is not running, or
2. Access Board is not connected to DSP board
properly, or
3. DSP board is too busy. Voice signal may be
impacted.
LED B Status
ON The telephony power supply on the
DSP board is supplying telephony power to analog
extension ports properly. Normal operation is ON.
OFF 1. Switching software is not running, or
2. The telephony power supply fails to supply power.
T1/E1 Port LED Status
The ALTI-M0404-T1E1 board has two LEDs to show the T1/E1 signal
status. The green LED is labeled “C” and the red LED is labeled “D”.

ON OFF Normal operation
OFF ON No signal
ON Flashing Frame synchronization is OK but one of
the following errors occurs:
1. Bi-polar violation
2. Line Code violation
3. System receives Yellow alarm from
CO
4. System receives Red alarm from CO
5. Excessive zeros detected
OFF Flashing Frame synchronization failed due to one
or more of the following conditions:
1. Wrong Frame Type
2. Wrong Line Code
3. Clock not matched causing massive
frame slips
4. Cable between CSU and T1 port is
too long (within 110 feet is
recommended)
5. CRC Check Sum Error (E1)
Alternating Temporary frame slip in a normal
operation
OFF OFF No power to the board
Audio Input and Output Device
Each Access Board has one audio input port (3.5mm) for connecting
a music-on-hold device and one audio output port for connecting a
paging device. Please note the following:
1. Only one audio input/output source is supported per system.
2. The first extension port is shared with audio input/output port
(Rx/Tx). Do not wire an analog phone to the first extension port
when one of the audio ports is activated.
