THERMOPROGRAM TA450
Congratulations on the purchase of this TA450 thermostat.
The TA450 programmable thermostat has been designed to guarantee ideal temperature
conditions and to adapt itself to all types of systems having differing thermal inertias (con-
vector heaters, radiant underfloor heating, electric heaters, etc.). Therefore, whatever the
environmental conditions or installation situation the TA450 offers the maximum of comfort
and energy saving. Thanks to the ample LCD display and ergonomic design of the controls
all of the TA450’s functions are easily used and programmed.
For best performance and to enable you to make best use of your programmable thermo-
stat’s characteristics and functions please read this manual carefully and keep it available
for future reference.
Read Carefully
• Read the warnings contained herein with care as they furnish important instructions regard-
ing safe use, installation and maintenance.
• After removing the packaging check the condition of the unit.
• The system must be installed in compliance with current safety standards.
• The manufacturer declines all liability for any damage as a result of improper, incorrect or
unreasonable use.
• Should the unit be in need of repair contact only a technical support centre authorised by
the manufacturer.
• Failure to comply with the above instructions may compromise the unit’s safety.
•
Install the unit in a position which is suitable for correct room temperature measurement
for example on an internal wall. Avoid installation in niches, behind doors or curtains, or
near heat sources.
• Only use
LR03 1.5V penlight AAA alkaline
batteries
• Only clean the thermostat with a soft cloth dampened with water.

FUNCTIONS
Clock
As an alternative to displaying the current temperature the time can be displayed instead
(hours and minutes). Simply press the display temp/time button .
User Profile
Two different user profiles are available that feature three different temperature levels
(COMFORT, ECO and NIGHT). These profiles can be used in both “HEATING” and “COOLING”
modes.
Heating, Cooling and System Bypass
The TA450 can operate in either “HEATING” or “COOLING” mode with the additional option
of frost protection without temperature control. Both modes offer the selection of three
different temperature levels.
Three levels of temperature control
In order to obtain the maximum of comfort in either heating or cooling mode the TA450
offers the possibility of selecting, in a simple and intuitive way, three different temperature
levels (COMFORT, ECO and NIGHT) which together allow for temperature programmability
over the range +3°C to +35°C. The TA450 is pre-programmed with the following tempera-
ture values.
In heating mode In cooling mode
COMFORT 20 °C COMFORT 24 °C
ECO 18 °C ECO 26 °C
NIGHT 16 °C NIGHT 28 °C
If these values correspond to your needs then the TA450 will not require further program-
ming.
Accumulated System Operating Time
The TA450 features an hour-counter (up to 9,999), which records the system’s overall number
of operating hours.
Remote Control
By means of a telephone dialler or similar appropriate telephone controlling device the
TA450 can be activated remotely thus guaranteeing a warm welcome home. Remote
control activation is made evident by the presence of the dedicated icon on the display.
Note. Closing the isolated contact will activate the thermostat at the programmed tempera-
ture; opening it will turn the thermostat OFF.

5
System deactivation by means of magnetic switch
It is also possible to force temperature control exclusion via the use of a magnetic window
switch connected to the relevant terminals. This helps to avoid wasted energy. The activa-
tion of this mode is indicated on the display by the word .
Frost Protection Control
Whenever temperature control on the TA450 is bypassed, either manually or automatically,
differential FROST protection remains active thus safeguarding both the boiler and the water
pipes. The FROST PROTECTION temperature is programmable from +3°C to +16°C.
+3°C
–3°C
Temperature measurement calibration
Should the positioning of the TA450 not prove to be ideal (for example when situated close
to a heat source) temperature measurement can be inaccurate: to overcome this problem
the reading can be calibrated by +/– 3°C thus optimising comfort and energy consumption.
Thermal differential control
This control system is recommended for installations that are particularly difficult to control
such as those that experience extreme variations in external temperature. It guarantees
maximum benefit from the installation with minimum consumption. In order to adapt the
system to installations that feature differing thermal inertias (convector heaters, underfloor
heating, electric heaters) the temperature differential can be set between 0°C and 0.9°C
PI
Proportional/Integral Control
Allows for the optimisation of fuel consumption while enjoying the maximum of environ-
mental comfort by reducing the number of times the boiler is ignited as a function of the
difference between the set temperature and room temperature: the smaller the difference
between the two temperatures the fewer the number of times the boiler is ignited thus
leading to a considerable reduction in energy consumption while maintaining a certain
degree of comfort. The TA450 allows for the selection from among three preset programmes
depending on the type of system to control (P1, P2 and P3). Alternatively programme P4,
which is completely manual, can also be selected (See table 1 on page 18).
Integral proportional adjustment has the advantage of permitting the management of a
wider variety of systems with respect to the setting of the thermal differential. It is especially
suitable for underfloor and radiant systems. The difference between the set temperature
and the ambient temperature is just a few tenths of a degree. This allows for more precise
adjustment.
Temperature Set-point Adjustment Blocking
The TA450 can block the programming of temperature set-points thus avoiding accidental
changes to settings. Using this feature the user is free to select one of three pre-pro-
grammed levels without the possibility to change them.

1 INSTALLATION
Install the unit in a position which is suitable
for correct room temperature measurement
for example on an internal wall. Avoid instal-
lation in niches, behind doors or curtains, or
near heat sources
The TA450 is intended to be wall mounted
as follows:
• Open the unit by pressing button A(fig. 2)
while at the same time pulling in the direc-
tion of the arrows.
• Remove the terminal block cover (fig. 3)
and fasten the back of the unit either to the
wall (fig. 4) or within the recessed box using
the screws and wall plugs supplied (fig. 5, 6).
ATTENTION. For the unit to work properly,
we recommend that it be mounted on a flat
surface. Be careful not to tighten the screws
excessively.

3 POWER SUPPLY
Insert 3 alkaline LR03 penlight AAA 1.5V
batteries within the housing. Make sure the
poles face the right way as shown on the
bottom of the housing (fig. 11).
ATTENTION. Inserting the batteries the
wrong way round could damage the unit.
If nothing appears on the display within 10
seconds press the reset button R (fig. 60).
Close the unit making sure that the hooks
are inserted into the slots (fig. 12).
Once the batteries have been inserted the
display comes on featuring the indications
illustrated in fig. 13
The unit is now set to operate in heating
mode .
The room temperature reading and battery
status indicator now appear.
