Live View Shooting

You can shoot while viewing a real-time image on the

camera's LCD monitor or on a personal computer

screen. This is called "Live View shooting."

Convenient when the camera is mounted on a

tripod for shooting still Riles, for e×ample.

if you handhold the camera Pikea compact digital

camera and shoot while viewing the LCD monitor,

camera shake can cause blurred images.

With the provided software installed in the pers0nal computer, you

can connect the camera to the personal computer and shoot

remotely while viewing the computer Screen instead Of the

camera's viewfinder. For details, see the Software Instruction

Manual inthe CD_ROM.

Preparing for Live View Shooting*

Set the camera for Live View shooting.

1Set the shooting mode.

®_ Set the shooting mode to a Creative

Zone mode.

_ Live View shooting does not work

in Basic Zone modes.

":_ Select [Live View function

"_'_ settings].

_ Under the [t?:] tab, select [Live View

function settings], then press <_>.

:_.y Semeet [Live View shoot.].

_ Select [Live View shoot.], then press

<_>. Select [EnabJe], then press

_ Exit the menu.

_ Press the <MENU> button to exit.

Disptay the Live View image.

e Press <_>.

_y,,The Lave View image will appear on

the LCD monitor.

_ The Live View image will reflect the

brightness level of the actual image

you capture.

_ If the image is too bdght, turn the

<_ > dial to the dght. If it is too dark,

turn the <_> dial to the left.

Preparing for Live View Shooting *

@During Live View shooting, do not point the camera toward the sun. The

sun's heat can aamage me camera's internal componen[s.

Live View shooting will disable a few Custom Function settings. (p. 153)

Under low light or bright lign[ conaluons, the Live View image might no[

reflect the brightness ot the captured image.

If the light source within the image changes, the screen might flicker. If

this happens, s[op the Live View shooting, men resume LJ_aView

shooting under tne actual light source to be usea.

During Live View image display, if you point the camera in a alfferent

direction _tm_ght throw off the correct bngn[ness momentanJy ana me

image might not took right. Wait until the image bnghmess s[abilizes

before shooting.

If there is a very bright light source in the picture, such as the sun. the

brign[ area m ght be blackened on the LCD monitor. However. the ac[ual

cap[urea image will correctJy show the bright area.

If you set the [1'9;LCD brightness] to bright se :tings in low light,

cbromJnance noise may appear in the _ire View image. However. the

chromlnance noise will not be recorded _o the captured image

When you magnify the image, the image sharpness may lOOKmore

pronounced than it real _/is.

Under the [lfftl Custom Functions (C.Fn)] menu, setting [Auto Lighting

Optimizer] (p.156) to [0: EnabJe] may display a darkly-exposed (set with

exposure compensation) image brighter.

If the camera is not operated for a prolonged period, the power will turn

off automatically as set with [l'tt° Auto power off]. (p. 109) t [_9° Auto

power off] is set to [Off], :he Live View shooting will stop automatically

after 30 min. (camera power remains or' J.

The image's fieJd of view is about I00%.

With the vlaeo caDJe (provided) connecting the camera to a TV set, you

can wew images on the TV. tp.128)

Focusing Manually*

Although autofocus can be used (p=102, 104), magnifying the image

and focusing manually is recommended for precise focusing.

Magnifying the mmage for Manual Focusing

_Set the Rens focus mode switch to

<MF>.

_ Turn the lens focusing ring to focus

roughly.

_t,_**_Move the focusing frame to the

position where you want to focus.

i _ Press the <_;_> key to move the

focusing frame.

_ To move to the center focusing frame,

press the <_> button.

Magnify the image.

® Press the <(&> button.

_y,,The area within the focusing frame

wifl be magnified.

® Each time you press the <_> button,

the display format wifl change as

follows:

_- 5x -* lOx -* Fullview I

_I,, Focus manually.

_ While looking atthe magnified image,

turn the lens focusing ring to focus.

_ After achieving focus, press the <_ >

button to return to the full view.

Shooting*

I! Cheek the exposure.

® Press the shutter button halfway.

_y,,The shutter speed and aperture will

be displayed.

_ If you set exposure compensation,

the image brightness will change

accordingly.

_ ake the pietureo

® Press the shutter button completely,

_y,,The picture will be taken and the

captured image is displayed on the

LCD monitor.

_y,,After the image review ends, the

camera will return to Live View

shooting automatically.

Exit Live View shooting.

® With the Live View image displayed,

press < _ >.

Abaut the Sheeting Settings

®<A-DEP>will bethe same as using <P>.

_ You can set the ISO speed, white balance, and exposure

compensation during Live View shooting.

_ The Picture Style, drive mode, AF mode, and AF point cannot be

changed during Live View shooting.

_ During Live View shooting, the metering mode will be set to

evaluative metering regardless of the current metering mode setting.

_ You can check the depth of field by pressing the depth-of-field

preview button.

_ During continuous shooting, the exposure set for the first shot will

also be applied to subsequent shots.

High temperatures, high ISO speeds_ or long exposures may cause

noise or irreguiar colors in the _mage cap[ured with Live View shooting.

If yc,u take the picture while the image is magnified, the exposure might

no_come out as desired. Return to the fulI view before taking the picture

Even if you take the picture during magnified view. the captured linage

will reflect the full view.

The focus preset feature on super telephoto lenses cannot be used.

For Live View shooting, do not use an Extension Tube or TS-E lens.

Doing so can cause irregular or unmtenaea exposures.

FE lock and modeling flash (with an external Speedlite) cannot be used.

A non-Canon [lash will not fire

L_ _, A grid can be displayed. Under [l'?; Live View function settings], set

[Grid display] to [On].

You can change the metering timer. Under [_t; Live View function

settings], set [Metering ti_er]

When you rake a p_cture with flash, it witl sound l_ketwo pictures were

Using AF to Focus*

Under [t_ Custom Functions (C,Fn)],

when [AF during Live View shooting]

(p, 157) is set to [1: Quick mode] or [2: Live

mode], you can focus with AR Quick mode

and Live mode use a different AF method.

If you want precise focusing, magnify the

image and focus manually. (p.98)

C,Fn.8.1 :Quick mode

This is the same as using AF (p.60, 61) as usual with the dedicated AF

sensor. Although you can focus the desired area quickly, the Live View

image will be interrupted momentarily during the AF operation.

Set to Quick mode, the _ens focus mode switch to <AF>, and the

AF mode to <ONE SHOT>.

_! Select the AF point for focusing.

® Before starting Live View shooting,

select the AF point.

® Press the <_> button and press the

<_;_> key to select the AF point.

® Press the shutter button halfway for

shooting ready.

_isptay the Live View image.

® Press <_>.

_y,,The Live View image will appear on

the LCD monitor.

® The selected AF point will be

displayed.

® The focusing frame (larger frame) will

also be displayed.

Using AF to Focus*

Focus the subject.

® Aim the selected AF point over the

subject, and hold down the <_>

button,

_y,,The Live View image will turn off, the

reflex mirror will go back down, and

AF will be executed,

_y,,When focus is achieved, the beeper

will sound.

press the shutter button to take the

You cannot takea picture during autofocusing. Take the picture enid.

while the Live View image is displayed.

You can move the focusing frame with the <_> keys. To magnify the

area within the focusing frame, press the <_ >Du_on.

Althougn you can set the AF mode to AI Servo AF or AI Focus AR AF witi

stop when the camera re_urns [o _heLive View image d_spJay {s-leD4}. so

you cannot focus the moving subject.

If you wa_t AF and AE lock to work separately, select the [_1t.;Custom

Functions (C.Fn)] menu's [ShuttedAE lock button] (p.158_ and set it to

[1: AE BocPJAF].

AF is no_ possible with Remote Switch RS-60E3 (sold separately)
