MANUAL

Live View Shooting

You can shoot while viewing a reat4ime image on the

camera's LCD monitor or on a personal computer

screen. This is called "Live View shooting."

using a hard disK-type card is not recommenaea, use a

memory cara.

When you use Live View shooting for a Jong period, the

camera's internal temperature may increase and it can aegraae

image quality. Terminate Live View shooting wnen not shooting

images

For a }ong exposure, stop Live View shooting temporarily and

wait several minutes before shooting.

If the <t[8:J> (warning for high temperature in the camera) icon _s

displayed, terminate Live View shooting.

With a hard-disk type card in the camera, if Live View shooting

continues wmle me <H> icon is displayed, the Live View mlgn[

stop automatically. Live View shooting will be disabled until the

camera's internal tempera-wre aecreases.

Live View Shooting

Instead of looking through the viewfinder, you can look at a real=time

image on the camera's LCD monitor while shooting. You can also

magnify the real-time image on the LCD monitor by 5x or 10x so you

can focus more precisely. Convenient when the camera ismounted on

a tripod for shooting still lifes, for example.

Preparing for Live View Shooting

_Set the lens focus mode switch to

<MF>.

® During Live View shooting,

autofocusing is not possible.

_. Select [Live View function

settings].

® Under the [r?:] tab, select [Live View

function settings], then press <_ >.

® Turn the <O> dial to select [Live

View shoot.], then press <_ >

_Select [Enabme].

® Turn the <O> dial to select [Enable],

then press <_>.

If you handhold the camera liKe a compact dLgitaI camera and shoot whlJe

wewmg _he LCD monitor, camera shake can cause Blurred images, For Lwe

V_ewshooting, mounting the camera on a tripod is recommended.

With the camera ready to shoot,

press <_5>.

the LCD monitor in real4ime with

100% field of view.

® With the video cable (provided)

connecting the camera to a TV set, you

can view images on the TV. (p.122)

@ During Live View image display, if you poiniihe camera in a diffeient direction; it

might threw off the correct brightness momentarily and the image might not !00k

right. VVaituntil the image stabilizes at the correct br!ghtnes s before sh0oting.

if you shoot dhi[e the image brightness is not yet stable, the resulting image

m!ght be overexposed o: underexposed:

if the Jight Source Within the image changes, the sateen might flicker. !f this

happens, press <{_> to end the shooting, then with the new light source in

place press <_> again to resume shooting.

Setting the Shooting Functions

In the same way as during shooting through the viewfinder, you can set

the shooting functions (shooting mode, drive mode, memory card

selection, image size, ISO speed, Picture Style, white balance,

exposure compensation, AEB, AE lock, flash exposure compensation,

etc.) while looking at the toplrear LCD panel or LCD monitor.

_Only the metering mode Cannot be Changed, Focusing frameqinked

evaluative metering with the image Sensor will take effect.

® Continuous shooting is possibl e,

@The metedng and AE !ock activated with the <-_> button wi!l remain

act!ve for16 sec.

To set the white balance, memory car d selection, or image size, press

the <FUNC> button and set it with the <O> or <_> dial:

® The focus preset feature on super telephoto lenses cannot be used.

High temperatures, high ISO speeds, or _ongexposures may cause noise or

irregular cotors in the captured image shot with Live View shooting.

Dunng continuous shooting, the exposure set for the first shot wilI also

be applied to subsequent shots. If you recompose during continuous

snooung, the exposure might not match the _a[[er sho[s.

If the camera is not operated for a prolonged period the power wdl turn

off automat cally as se[ with [1'_¢°Auto power offj. (p.47)

Cheek the composition.

To check the exposure slmulauon and depth of fiela, press the depth-of-

field preview button.

Flash photography is also possible However. FE lock. modeling flash.

and test firing are not possible. The Speedtite's Custom Functions also

sannot be set with the Speedlite

With the 580EX H.the wireless sethng cannot be changed.

Under low hght or bright Jight conditions, the Live View image m_gn_no_

amplay the proper brightness. And if you press the depth-of-field preview

button, the image might not show the brightness corresponding to the

exposure setting (<_ > icon blinks) However the captured _mage will

reflect the exposure setting.

If there is a very bright light source in the picture, such as the sun. the

aright area might be covered in black on tne LCD monitor. However. the

actual captured image will correctly show the bright area.

_ The ume it takes to actually take the picture after you press _ne shutter

button completely is slightly longer than with shooting _nrough the

viewfinder.

When C.Fn IV -16 [Live View exposure simulation] is se[ zo

[1:Enable(simulates exposure}], the Live View image will be displayed

with the brightness level slmu sting the exposure setting. This enables

you to see how the exposure looks before taking the picture. (p.178)

The histogram (p,!18) will be displayed on_y when C.Fn iV -16=1 has been

set. If flash _sused or bulb is set, the histogram will be grayed out.The

histogram might not be properly displayed in _owHghtor bright light conditions.

When you press _hedepth-of-field preview button or set C.Fn IV -16-1. the

<_ > icon _zill appear to indicate that exposure simulation is in effect.

During Live View shooting, if the <_ > warning icon (tempera-cure

increase warning)is displayed, see page 109.

Learn how to view or erase images, and copy images

between the CF card and SD card.

For images taken with another camera:

The camera might not be able to properly display images captured

with a different camera or edited with a personal computer or whose

file name was changed.
