You can customize a Picture Style by adjusting individual parameters

such as [Sharpness] and [Contrast]. To see the resulting effects, take

test shots. To customize [Monochrome], see page 134.

_Press the <_' _-'_> button.

Select aPicture Style.

_ Select a Picture Style, then press the

<INFO.> button.

_y,,The Detail setting screen will appear.

Select aparameter.

_ Select a parameter such as

[Sharpness], then press <_)>.

4Set the parameter.

®_Press the <4_ > key to adjust the

parameter as desired, then press

_ Press the <MENU> button to save the

adjusted parameters. The Picture

Style selection screen will reappear.

the default will be displayed in blue.

Parameter Settings and Effects

_) Sharpness

Adjusts the sharpness of the image.

To make it less sharp, set it toward the [] end. The closer it is to [],

the softer the image will look.

To make it sharper, set it toward the [] end. The closer it is to D, the

sharper the image will look.

Contrast

Adjusts the image contrast and the vividness of colors.

To decrease the contrast, set it toward the minus end. The closer it is

to I_, the more muted the image will look.

To increase the contrast, set it toward the plus end. The closer it is to

[], the crisper the image will look.

_o Saturation

The image's color saturation can be adjusted.

To decrease the color saturation, set it toward the minus end. The

closer it is to m, the more diluted the colors will look.

To increase the color saturation, set it toward the plus end. The

closer it is to _, the bolder the colors will look.

Color tone

The skin tones can be adjusted.

To make the skin tone redder, set it toward the minus end. The

closer it is to IS, the redder the skin tone will look.

To make the skin tone less red, set it toward the plus end. The closer

it is to _, the more yellow the skin tone will look.

For Monochrome, you can also set [Filter effect] and [Toning effect] in

addition to [Sharpness] and [Contrast] explained on the preceding

page.

Filter Effect

With a filter effect applied to a

monochrome image, you can make

white clouds or green trees stand out

more.

N : None iNormal black-and-white image with no filter effects.

Ye: Yellow iThe blue sky will look more natural, and the white clouds will look

icrisper.

iThe blue sky will look slightly darker. The sunset will look more

Or: Orange brilliant.

R : Red iThe blue sky will look quite dark. Fall leaves will look crisper and

brighter.

Skin tones and lips will appear muted. Tree leaves will look

G : Green icrisper and brighter.

Increasing the [Contrast] will make the filter effect more pronounced.

_i)Toning Effect

By applying a toning effect, you can

create a monochrome image in that

color. It can make the image look more

impressive.

The following can be selected: [N:None],

IS:Sepia], [B:Blue], [P:Purple] or

[G:Green].

You can select a base Picture Style such as [Portrait] or (Landscape],

adjust its parameters as desired and register it under (User Def. 1],

(User Def. 2], or (User Def. 3].

You can create multiple Picture Styles whose parameter settings such

as sharpness and contrast are different.

You can also adjust the parameters of a Picture Style that has been

registered to the camera with EOS Utility (provided software, p.364).

Press the <_' _-'_ >button.

2Select [User Def.*].

_ Select a (UserDef.*] style,then press

<INF0.>.

_ With (Picture Style] selected, press

If a Picture Style has already been registered under [User Def.*],

changing the base Picture Style in step 4 will nullify the parameter

settings of the registered Picture Style.

If you execute [Clear all camera settings] (p.214), all the [User Def.*]

settings will revert to Lheir defaults. Picture Styles registered via EOS

Utility (provided software) wil! have only their modified parameters

rever[ed to their default settings.

To shoot with a registered Picture Style, follow step 2 on page 95 to

select [User Def.*] then shoot.

For the procedure to register a Picture Style file to the camera, refer to

the EOS Utility Instructions (p.367)

WB: Matching the Light Source _

The function adjusting the color tone so that white objects look white in

the picture is called white balance (WB). Normally, the <_> (Auto)

setting will obtain the correct white balance. If natural-looking colors

cannot be obtained with <_>, you can select the white balance that

matches the light source or set it manually by shooting a white object.

Press the <A WB> button.

b,,[White balance] will appear.

Select the white balance.

_ Press the <_> key or turn the

<8> dial to select the desired white

balance, then press <_)>.

_ The "Approx. ****K" (K: Kelvin)

displayed for the white balance

settings < _.'->, <_:&>, <IL>, <_>

or <_> is the respective color

temperature.

_o_ Custom White Balance

Custom white balance enables you to manually set the white balance

for a specific light source for better accuracy. Perform this procedure

under the actual light source to be used.

Photograph a white object.

_ The plain, white object should fill the

spot metering circle.

_ Focus manually and set the standard

exposure for the white object.

_ You can set any white balance.

_Select [Custom White Balance].

® Under the [_t'12] tab, select [Custom

White Balance], then press <0>.

_,,The custom white balance selection

screen will appear.

_,_ Import the white balance data.

® Select the image that was captured in

step 1, then press <8>.

},, On the dialog screen that appears,

select [OK] and the data wi_ be

imported.

® When the menu reappears, press the

<MENU> button to exit the menu.

j_ Select the custom white balance.

® Press the <A WB> button.

® Select <_o_>, then press <_)>.

_ If the exposure obtained in step 1 differs greatly from the standard

exposure, a correct white balance may not be obtained.

e An image captured while the Picture Style was set to [Monochrome]

(p.96) or an image processed with a Creative filter cannot be selec[ed in

step 3.

e Instead of a white object, an 18% gray card (commercially available) can

produce a more accurate wl_ite balance.

® The personal white balance registered with EOS Utility (provided

software, p.364) will be registered under < _=,_>.If you perform step 3.

the data for the registered persona! white balance wil! be erased.

You can correct the white balance that has been set. This adjustment

will have the same effect as using a commercially-available color

temperature conversion filter or color compensating filter. Each color

can be corrected to one of nine levels.

This function is for advanced users who are familiar with using color

temperature conversion or color compensating filters.

White Balance Correction

Select [WB Shift/Bkt.].

_ Under the [_2] tab, select [WB

ShiftJBkt.], then press <_)>.

_y,,The WB correction/WB bracketing

screen will appear.

Sample setting: A2, G1

2Set the white balance correction.

_ Press the < ,;, > key to move the ""'

mark to the desired position.

_ B is for blue, A for amber, M for

magenta, and G for green. The color

in the respective direction will be

corrected.

_ On the upper right, "SHIFT" indicates

the direction and correction amount.

_ Pressing the <@> button will cancel

all the [WB Shift/Bkt.] settings.

_ Press <0 > to exit the setting and

return to the menu.

®/ When the white balance is Corrected, <#_8>will be displayed in the

viewfinder and on the LCD monitor.

_ One level of the bluetamber correction is equivalent to approx. 5 mireds

of a col0[ temperature conyers!on filter. (Mired; Measuring unit indicating

the density of a color temperature conversion filter.)

#_BAdjusting the Color Tone for the Light Source*

White Balance Auto Bracketing

With just one shot, three images having a different color balance can be

recorded simultaneously. Based on the color temperature of the current white

balance setting, the image will be bracketed with a blue/amber bias or

magenta/green bias. This is called white balance bracketing (WB-BKT). White

balance bracketing is possible up to +3 levels in single-level increments.

B/A bias _+3levels

Set the white balance bracketing amount.

_ In step 2 for white balance correction,

when you turn the <_> dial, the "'"

mark on the screen will change to

"" [] "' (3 points). Turning the dial to the

right sets the B/A bracketing, and turning

it to the left sets the M/G bracketing.

_y,,On the right, "Bracket" indicates the

bracketing direction and correction

amount.

_ Pressing the <'@> button will cancel

all the [WB Shift/Bkt.] settings.

_ Press <_)> to exit the setting and

return to the menu.

Bracketing Sequence

The images wiii be bracketed in the following sequence: 1. Standard

white balance, 2. Blue (B) bias, and 3. Amber (A) bias, or 1. Standard

white balance, 2. Magenta (M) bias, and 3. Green (G) bias.

[] During WB bracketing, the maximum burst for continuous shooting will

be lower and the number of possible shots will also decrease to approx.

one-third the normal number.

You can also set white balance correction and AEB together with white

balance bracketing. If you set AEB in combination with white balance

bracketing, a total of nine images will be recorded for a single shot.

Since three images are recordea for one shot. it takes longer to record

Lbeshot to the card.

"8kt." stands for bracketing.
