Getting More Out of Your

Camera

This chapter exp,ains how to shoot in TV, AV and M modes.

How to use C mode is also explained.

This chapter assumes that the camera has been set to the corresponding

mode.

You can set the shutter to the speed at which you want to shoot. The camera

will set the appropriate aperture value for the shutter speed you set.

TV stands for "Time value".

Setthe modedial toTv.

Adjustthe setting.

Turn the 0 ring to set the shutter speed,

Shoot.

15", 13", 10", 8", 6", 5", 4", 3"2, 2"5, 2", 1"6, 1"3, 1", 0"8, 0"6, 0"5, 0"4, 0"3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6,

1/8, 1/10, 1/13, 1/15, 1/20, 1/25, 1/30, 1/40, 1/50, 1/60, 1/80, 1/100, 1/125, 1/160, 1/200,

1/250, 1/320, 1/400, 1/500, 1/640, 1/800, 1/1000, 1/1250, 1/1600, 1/2000

2" indicates 2 seconds, 0"3 indicates 0.3 second and 1/160 indicates 1/160

second.

If the aperture value appears in orange when the shutter button is pressed

halfway, the scene has exceeded the correct exposure limits. Adjust the shutter

speed until the aperture value appears in white (Safety shift can also be used

(p. 119)).

You can set the aperture to a value at which you want to shoot. The camera

will set the appropriate shutter speed for the aperture value you set.

AV stands for "Aperture value", which refers to the size of the aperture

opening inside the lens.

Set the mode dial to Av.

Adjust the setting.

Turn the 0 ring to set the aperture value.

Shoot.

Available Aperture Values

F2.0, F2.2, F2.5, F2.8, F3.2, F3.5, F4.0, F4.5, F5.0, F5.6, F5.9, F6.3, F7.1, F8.0

Depending on the zoom position, some aperture values may not be available.

If the shutter speed appears in orange when the shutter button is pressed halfway,

the scene has exceeded the correct exposure limits. Adjust the aperture value

until the shutter speed appears in white. Safety shift can also be used (see below).

In TV and AV modes, if you press the MENU button to display the _ tab, and

set [Safety Shift] to [On], the shutter speed or aperture value is automatically

adjusted for the correct exposure when it cannot otherwise be obtained.

Safety Shift is disabled when the flash is enabled.

You can manually set the shutter speed and aperture to shoot images with

the exposure you want.

_V_stands for "Manual".

The set exposure level appears on the

indicator. You can check the difference

against the standard exposure level.

When the difference is more than +2 stops,

the set exposure level appears in orange.

When you press the shutter button

halfway, "-2" or "+2" appears in orange.

You can change the function assigned to the control ring. By performing

operations with the control ring, you can enjoy the feeling of using a fully

manual camera.

Choose a function to assign to the

0ring.

Press the RING

FUNC.button.

Press the _UNC.RINGbutton, the _ buttons, or

turn the 0 ring or 0 dial to choose an

option.

Press the @ button to complete the

function assignment.

Turn the 0 ring or the 0 dial to adjust the

_:i settings of the assigned functions.

shooting mode. The functions assigned to the control dial also change.

You can register which functions will be assigned to the control ring for each

Shooting mode.

choose C.

Follow Step 1 on p. 121 to choose C,

then press the MENUbutton.

Press the 'O" buttons or turn the O dial to

choose a Shooting mode to set.

Press the ,_v buttons or turn the 0 ring to

choose a function to register to the control

ring.

The function assigned to the control dial

will be changed.

Press the MENU button to complete the

setting and restore the shooting screen.

In _V_ mode, you can choose 3 levels of flash output.

choosethefl.sh outputlevel.

After pressing the _ button, immediately

turn the 0 ring to choose the flash output

level, then press the @ button.

Once set, [] will appear on the screen.

You can save commonly used Shooting modes and settings to your

preference. To switch to saved settings, simply turn the mode dial to C •

Even if you switch Shooting modes or turn off the camera, settings that

usually cancel (self timer, etc.) will be saved.

Enter a Shooting mode and make

settings.

Choose [Save Settings].

Press the MENUbutton, choose [Save

Settings] in the O tab, then press the @

button.

Save the settings.

Press the 4_ buttons or turn the _ dial to

choose [OK], then press the @ button.
