Safety
General Safety Instructions
Warning! Readall theinstructions. Failureto adhere to thefollowing instructions may
lead to electric shocks, fires and/or serious injury. Theterm “power tools” in thewarning
text below refers to your handheld mains operated or battery operated tool. Savethis
manual for future reference.
1) Work area
a) Keep thework area clean and well illuminated. Clutteredand poorly lit areas
invite accidents.
b) Do not use power tools in explosive environments, e.g. near to flammable liquids,
gases or dust. Powertools generate sparks that can easily ignite dust or fumes.
c) Keep children and other bystanders away from thearea where you are using
thepower tool. Distractionscan cause you to lose your concentration and control.
2) Electrical safety
a) The power tool’s plug must fit correctly into thewall socket. Nevermodify
theplug in any way. Neveruse an adaptor together with earthed power tools.
Unmodifiedplugs and suitable wall sockets decrease therisk of electric shock.
b) Avoid physical contact with earthed objects, such as pipes, radiators, ovens or
refrigerators. Thereis an increased risk of electrical shock if your body is earthed.
c) Do not expose thepower tool to rain or other wet conditions. Ifwater gets inside
apower tool it increases therisk of electric shock.
d) Do not abuse themains lead. Neveruse thelead to carry thetool or pull theplug
from thewall socket. Keepthelead away from heat, oil, sharp edges and movable
parts. Damagedor tangled leads increase therisk of electric shock.
e) When using power tools outdoors, use an extension lead that is suitable for this
purpose. Useof an extension lead designed for outdoor use decreases therisk for
electric shock.

3) Personal safety
a) Pay attention to what you are doing and use common sense when using
power tools. Neveruse power tools if you are tired or under theinfluence of drugs,
alcohol or medication. Onemoment of inattention while using apower tool may
result in serious injury.
b) Wear protective clothing. Alwayswear safety glasses. Usingprotective clothing
such as dust masks, non-slip safety shoes, helmets and ear defenders when
needed decreases therisk of injury.
c) Avoid accidental starts. Makesure that thepower switch is set to OFF before
plugging thetool into awall socket. Nevercarry apower tool with your finger on
thetrigger and never connect thepower tool to awall socket when theswitch is
set to ON, since it may result in injury.
d) Remove all service tools/keys before switching on thepower tool. Aservice tool
left on amoving part of thepower tool may result in injury.
e) Do not overreach. Makesure you stand steady and well balanced at all times.
Thiswill allow you to have more control in unexpected situations.
f) Wear suitable clothing. Donot wear loose-fitting clothing or jewellery. Keephair,
clothes and gloves away from moving parts. Loose-fitting clothes, jewellery or
long hair could become caught in moving parts.
g) If equipment for dust extraction or collecting is available make sure it is connected
and used properly. Usingtechnical aids may decrease dust related hazards.
4) Use and maintenance of power tools
a) Do not force thepower tool. Useapower tool suitable for thework you are about
to perform. Theproper power tool will perform thetask better and safer if used at
thecorrect feed rate.
b) Never use thepower tool if thepower switch does not switch thetool on and
off properly. Allpower tools that cannot be controlled by thepower switch are
dangerous and must be repaired.
c) Unplug thelead from thewall socket before making any adjustments, changing
accessories or storing thepower tool. Theseprecautions reduce therisk of
thepower tool starting unexpectedly.
d) Store power tools that are not being used out of children’s reach. Donot allow
people who are unfamiliar with thetool or its functions to operate thetool.
Powertools can be dangerous if they fall into thehands of inexperienced users.
e) Maintaining power tools. Checkfor any incorrect settings, parts that catch,
broken parts or anything else which may cause thepower tool to malfunction.
Ifsomething is damaged it must be repaired before use. Manyaccidents are
caused by poorly maintained power tools.
f) Keep tools sharp and clean. Properlymaintained cutting tools with sharp blades
are less likely to jam and are easier to control.
g) Use thepower tool, accessories and similar according to theinstructions and in an
appropriate way suitable for thetype of power tool used. Also, take into consideration
your work environment and thetype of work to be done. Usingthepower tool for
apurpose other than that for which it is intended could result in adangerous situation.

5) Service
Repairs and service should only be performed by qualified tradesmen, and only with
original spare parts. Thisguarantees that thesafety of thepower tool is maintained.

Specific Safety Instructions for High Speed Rotary Tools
General
• The machine must only be operated by persons over theage of 16 years.
• This machine must not be used in or around water.
• Always remove theplug from thewall socket before making any adjustments or
changing accessories.
Accessories
• Use only those accessories designed to be used with themachine.
• Always follow themanufacturer’s instructions when attaching accessories.
• Use only those accessories rated at speeds higher than thehighest rated speed of
themachine.
• Do not use accessories that are damaged, deformed or that vibrate.
• Handle and store grinding/cutting discs carefully so that they don’t splinter or split.
• The accessories must not be exposed to blows, impacts or grease.
• Never use grinding discs with diameters greater than 32 mm (1 ¼″).
• Never use drill bits with diameters greater than 32 mm (1 ¼″).
• Never use theedge of thecutting disc for grinding.
• Never use reducing rings or adaptors to attach grinding/cutting discs with large bores.

Before use
• Always make sure that themains supply voltage is compatible with themachine’s
rated voltage.
• Do not work with materials containing asbestos.
• Tie or clamp theworkpiece down if it is not held in place by its own weight.
• Use fully-rolled out extension leads with at least a16 A rating.
• Safety glasses, gloves, ear protectors, face masks and safety shoes should
all be worn. Anapron should also be worn if necessary.
• Wear aface mask when working with material producing toxic dust.
Checkthemake-up of thematerial before starting work.
• Make sure that thechuck is compatible with theshank of theaccessory.
• Make sure that thepower switch is set to OFF before themachine is plugged into
thewall socket.
During use
• Keep themains lead away from rotating parts; trail thelead behind and away from
themachine.
• Do not use themachine if themains lead is damaged; have thelead replaced by
aqualified electrician.
• Never engage thespindle lock while thetool is rotating. Damagecaused by
incorrect handling of themachine is not covered by theguarantee.
• Keep hands away from rotating parts and accessories.
• The grinding of metal will produce sparks. Bystandersand flammable material
should therefore be kept away from theworking area.
• Always keep themotor’s ventilation openings free of dust and debris.
• If an electrical or mechanical fault arises, themachine must be switched off and
unplugged immediately.
After use
• The accessory will continue to rotate for ashort while after themachine has been
switched off.
• Before leaving themachine, make sure that themotor is switched off and that all
parts have stopped moving.
• Never stop thetool rotating by applying aload to it after themachine has been
turned off.

Operation
Setting the speed
1. Setthespeed using thebuttons [+] and [–]
(6). Thedisplay shows 1/1000 of theactual
number of revolutions. Themachine in
thefigure is set on 8000 rpm.
2. Startthemachine using theon/off switch.
Thespeed can be adjusted when
themachine is running.
3. Switchthemachine off using
theon/off switch (4).
Attaching accessories
1. Pressin thespindle lock button (3)
and undo thecollet chuck (1).
2. Insertan accessory into thechuck and then
tighten thechuck. Thecollet (9) might need
to be changed depending on theshank
diameter of theaccessory. Twocollets are
supplied: 2.4 mm and 3.2 mm.
Attaching flexible drive shaft
1. Unscrewthenose collar (2).
2. Pullthedrive wire (10) ashort way out of
theflexible drive shaft (8) and grip theend of
it in thecollet chuck (1) (3.2 mm).
3. Screwtheflexible shaft to
thethread on themachine where
thenose collar was.
4. Locktheflexible drive shaft by inserting
thespindle lock pin (11) into thehole at
thenose.
5. Undothecollet chuck (12) and attach
thedesired accessory before tightening it again.

Care and maintenance
• Always keep themotor’s ventilation openings free of dust and debris.
• Clean themachine as needed using alightly moistened cloth and
mild detergent if necessary.
• Avoid using solvents and abrasive cleaning agents.
