1. Safety
ATTENTION!
IMPORTANT WARNING FOR SAFER BLAST CLEANING
1. Tool operator and anyone within 50 feet of work area must wear
safety goggles.
2. Check for possible silicosis or other toxic hazards.
3. Do not blast with damaged or worn equipment.
4. Point nozzle only at area being cleaned.
5. Use only proper dry and well-screened abrasives specically
intended for blasting.
6. Keep unprotected workers out of the blast area.
7. Before blasting check ttings and hose for wear.
8. Do not substitute for parts from other manufacturers, or modied
equipment in any way.

3. Introduction. Setup and Operation.
Air Requirements
3.1 Introduction
The PBT-2 is a rugged, portable, high-production tool for blast cleaning the internal surface
of steel pipe. Its carriage adjusts for cleaning pipe from 12″ (300mm) to 36″ (900mm)
inside diameter.
The PBT-2 is a pneumatic tool that is used as an accessory to a standard blast machine.
Compressed air powers an air motor for control of the blast head rotation speed allowing
innite exibility for varying degrees of contamination of the steel surface.
The tool can be used with nozzles PBN-5.0 to PBN-9.5 and requires a minimum of 1¼″ID
blast hose.
3.2 Setup
The PBT-2 Blast tool attaches to the end of a pipe lance or blast hose in place of a standard
nozzle. The compressor and air supply lines must be sized to support a blast operation
at the pressure and air capacity shown in Paragraph 3.4.
The blast machine should have a minimum of 1¼″ piping. Minimum size blast hose or pipe
lance is as follows:
PBN-5.0 to PBN-8.0 nozzles use a 1¼″ I.D. blast hose or lance
PBN-9.5 and larger orice nozzles use a 1½″ I.D. blast hose or lance
Smaller diameter hose and lance could cause premature wear on the tool.
A ball valve is provided on the air motor inlet to adjust air motor speed.
An additional ½″ ID air hose is required to connect compressed air to the air motor.
A 20-micron lter should be installed in the air motor inlet path to remove dirt from the air
stream.
The PBT-2 Blast tool has a CFT-2 sandblast coupling connection for the pipe lance or blast
hose.
Attach to the pipe lance or blast hose a CFT, CQP or CQT coupling to connect it to the PBT-2
Blast tool.

Install the carriage legs and adjust the legs so the tool is approximately centered to pipe.
Place the tool inside the pipe and, if needed, make minor nal adjustment to center the tool
in the pipe. In some cases the legs may need to be shortened, or replaced with longer or
shorter pipe.
Attach an ½″ I.D. air line to the air motor quick coupling.
Connect a pipe lance or blast hose to the PBT-2 Blast tool.
ATTENTION!
Hose disconnection while under pressure could cause serious injury
or death. Use safety lock-pins and safety cables on all coupling
connections to help prevent hose couplings from accidental
disconnection.
3.3 Operation
Connect air lines, blast lines, and blast equipment as described in the applicable operation
manuals.
Push tool through pipe until blast head exits the opposite end.
Open air supply to air motor. Adjust air pressure or ow to rotate the blast head
at 40–60 rpm.
Pressurize blast machine and adjust abrasive ow to tool.
Pull tool back through pipe at a constant speed to achieve the desired degree of blast
cleanliness.
As the tool exits the pipe turn off air/abrasive supply from the blast machine.
NOTE: To avoid damage to the Pipe Blasting Tool, provide an exit ramp, platform or
structural support at the exit end of the pipe.
Turn off air supply to the air motor.

3.4 Air Requirements
The following table shows compressed air consumption (m3/min) at 8 bar working pressure
when nozzles are new and when they are considered worn (ca. 1,5mm larger than original).

The pneumatic drive motor requires additional ca. 1,5 m3/min of dry clean air for proper
operation.

4. Maintenance
Routine maintenance must be performed to achieve maximum blasting performance of this
Tool.
2–3 drops of 10mg weight lubricating oil should be added to the air inlet port on the
pneumatic motor before and after each daily use.
Remove the blast head at the end of each shift (8–10 hours) and clean the packing gland
and blast tube of all oil, dust and abrasive. Apply a thin layer of grease to the end of the
blast tube and slide the packing gland to the proper position.
Grease is lled into the PBT-2 air motor via the grease tting on the air motor body. Apply
grease until excess grease appears from the internal seal gland o-rings or seal.
Install the blast head on the PBT-2 Tool and tighten the lock nut to secure the head.
The blast head should be hand tight. Do not over tighten the blast head.

5. Warranty and
Warranty Service Regulations
Please ensure that this warranty card is lled in clearly and correctly by the seller organiza-
tion from which you purchased our product.
1. CONTRACOR warrants equipment manufactured by CONTRACOR to be free from defects
in workmanship preventing normal equipment operation during twelve months. This period
of time is calculated from the date of purchase lled in by the Seller organization (hereinaf-
ter referred to as “Seller”) in this warranty policy.
2. Obligations arising from this warranty are fullled by the Seller or authorized organiza-
tions. Please contact the Seller to obtain the list of authorized organizations.
3. This warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of the defective part only, the defect
of the part appeared during the period of warranty, without any payments by the purchaser
if conditions of the warranty are observed. Repair or replacement of defect parts will not
extend the warranty coverage on the equipment beyond the original expiration date.
4. Above-mentioned warranty term does not apply to assemblies and parts if in the user’s
guide supplied with the equipment a special warranty term is specied for these assemblies
and details.
5. This warranty is not applied to defects caused by improper use or use with violation of
intended use, wrong storage, drops or impacts, incorrect maintenance, damage caused by
freezing or use with violation of user’s manual requirements.
6. The warranty does not cover electric motor damage caused by one phase failure.
7. The warranty does not apply to the equipment with external mechanical defects.
8. This warranty does not cover consumable materials and the parts, which service life de-
pends on operation conditions: lters, high pressure and rubber hoses, nozzles, spray-guns,
seals, quick-release couplings, tip holders etc.
9. Natural wear and tear of equipment, caused by its operation with intensity inconsistent
with that specied in user’s manual and equipment function, is not covered by this war-
ranty.
10. Defects resulted from usage of the devices, accessories or consumable materials other
than offered by the equipment supplier, and in case of equipment modication not ap-
proved by the manufacturer or unauthorized repair of the equipment are not covered by this
warranty.
