Visitor Operation
1. The visitor will enter the complex unit or house number on the keypad and press the
“#” key to enter. The system will search for up to 4 numbers registered to the entered
unit number and sequentially display the resident names on the LCD display. The
visitor can press the “#’ key again to call the displayed name or use the “0” key to
sequentially step through each registered name (if the unit number has only one
registered name then that name will be called on the first “#’ key press).
Note that the keypad entry will be cancelled if not entered within 20 seconds.
2. The calling ring tone will be audible from the intercom speaker (the call will be
cancelled if not answered within 30 seconds). When the resident answers the call the
visitor will have up to 60 seconds to speak to the resident. The resident can open the
gate for the visitor by pressing key “9” on his/her cell or landline phone. A warning
beep will be sounded 10 seconds before the 60 second cut-off time. The call will be
cancelled by the visitor pressing the “*” key or the resident hanging up.

3
Resident Operation
1. Up to 1000 permanent and temporary access names and telephone numbers can be
registered with the Icom1000 system for time and day limited or unlimited access. A
registered resident or employee can open the gate by calling the Icom1000 unit. The
call will not be answered and hang up on the first ring (as the call is not answered the
operation is free).
2. The gate alarm input can be configured to send a customised SMS alarm or warning
message to up to 6 recipient numbers.
3. All device configuration and access list maintenance can be performed by using the
free “My Gcom” portal at www.gcom500.co.za or by sending SMS command
messages. Note that any data entered or changed on the “My Gcom” manager portal
will overwrite any SMS entries; it is for this reason that we recommend using the
portal only for devices with more than 20 users. A list of SMS configuration and
programming commands can be found on the “My Gcom” portal.
Installation
To avoid problems cause by static discharge the intercom unit should be well earthed. To
be effective, earth connections should be made with a minimum 2.5mm² copper wire to a
ground point within 3 meters of the intercom. The ground point must be at an electrical
panel, a metallic cold water pipe that runs in the earth, or a grounding rod driven at least 2
meters into the soil. A gooseneck mounting post anchored in concrete does not make a
good ground. To allow for installation and maintenance the intercoms “tamper alarm” is
armed on the 1st keypad operation. GSM signal strength can be viewed by entering code
#00100 on the keypad (reverts to normal display after 60 seconds).

4
Antenna Connection
The Icom is supplied with a weather proof blade antenna with 1.5 meters of cable. To
avoid DTMA noise (buzzing sound on audio) the antenna should me mounted outside of
the steel enclosure and at least 1 meter away (possibly low down on the rear of the
gooseneck). Do not coil up loose antenna cable inside the housing.
