WedesignedtheE90systemtobehasslefree,flexibleandtough.Thismanualislaidoutfrom

thebeginningtotheendtogiveyouhelpfuladviceandinformation.Thefirstpartiscalled“Quick

StartEssentials”.ThesearethingsthatwethinkyouMUSTreadtogetthemostoutofyour

electricbikeasquicklyaspossible.We’velaiditoutinplainenglishsoyoucanlearnaboutyour

bikeinapracticalway,ratherreadingtechnojargon.Theprocessweuseis:

QuickStartEssentials

FirstthingsfirstGettoknowyourbattery

Thismightseemastrangeplacetostart,butyourbatteryisthesinglemost

expensivecomponentofyourconversionkit.Thebatterythatcomeswithyourkitusesvery

advancedlithiumionchemistry.Insidethespeciallydesignedcasingareelectroniccomponents

thatworktoprolongandoptimisethelifeofyourbattery.Lithiumionbatterieshaveenhanced

lifetimes,conservativelyestimatedtobeapproximately1000cycles.However,themustbe

maintainedwellbytheirowner.Atnopointshouldyouattempttoopenthesealedcase.Ifin

doubt,contactyourserviceagent.Didwesaynottoopenthecaseunderanycircumstances,

butreturnittoyourserviceagentifyouthinkit’snotworkingproperly.Awesome,letusmoveon

Howtogiveyourbatteryecolove.

1. Aimtonevertodepleteyourbatteryandaimtokeepitaschargedaspossibleatall

times.Loveyourbatteryanditwillgiveyouyearsofservice.

2. Fullychargeyourbatteryaftereveryride.Yourbatteryshouldbefullychargedwithin

afewhours.Aredlightonthechargerindicateditis‘oncharge’,agreenlightonthe

chargerindicatesitis‘fullycharged’.

3. Neverleavethechargerturnedononcethebatteryhasfullycharged.Removethe

batterychargingconnectorattherearanddisconnectthechargerfromthemainssupply

atthesocket.Alwaysmakesurethechargerhasadequateventilationandawayfromany

heatsensitivesurface.Allelectricalchargersgenerateheat,somakesureit’swellaway

fromanimals,children,water,mogwai,dragonsandotherthingsthatheateffects.

4. Alwaysturnoffthepowerswitch.Whenthebikeisnotinuseorbeingrecharged.Not

turningofftheswitchwillmeanasmallamountofcurrentwillberunningthroughthe

controllerandotherpartsofthesystem,andthiswilldrainthebattery.

5. Donotleavetheswitchon.Despitethebattery’sabilitytomanagepowerforyou,itwill

drainthebattery(see4).Whenturnedoffthebatterywillholdgoodcharge.

6. Youshouldchargethebatteryfullyeverytwomonthsevenifyouarenotusing

thebikeatall.LithiumIonbatteriesdonotlikebeingleftforlongerperiods.THIS

ISTHESINGLEMOSTIMPORTANTREASONFORLOSSOFBATTERY

PERFORMANCEANDLIFE.Yourbatterywarrantymaybeinvalidshouldyounot

followthisadvice.

7. Batteryrecharging:Standardchargerswillfullychargethebatteryinapproximately5

hoursfromdeadflat.Thebatterychargerwillindicateafullchargebyturningfrom‘red’to

‘green’.Inaddition,thebatterychargecanbetestedbypressingthe‘test’buttononthe

case.Fullgreenlightsmeansafullchargeandoneornolightsmeanslowornocharge.

Batterycorrectlyfittedtothecasing.Itshouldbeflushand‘clicks’intoplacewithasmallpush.When

fitted,LOCKitintoplaceandremovethekey.Pullonthebatteryusingthefindergripsontheundersideto

ensureitisfittedcorrectlybeforeriding.Tounlock,insertandturnthekey.Holdthekeyinthatposition

andgentlypullthebatteryout.Youcanchargethebatteryeitherwhenmountedasshown,orremoved.

Insidethebatteryareessentialelectroniccomponentswhichinteractwiththecontrollerand

managethebatteryitself.Yourbatteryisafactorysealedunitandmustnotbealtered,openedor

otherwisetamperedwith.

●Thebatteryslidesinandoutofthemountingcase,usingaclicklockandphysicalkey

locktoholditinplace.

●TheBMSishousedinsidethebattery(youcan’tseeit).Thebikecontrollerishousedat

therearofthemountingdock,locatedunderyoursaddleandyouwillseethewiringloom

runningintoit.Itisinsidethecaseyoucan’tseeit.

Thesetwopartsareessentialtothebikesystem.(seepreviousphoto).Theyhavebeentobe

waterresistant.However,takecarenottoimmerseeitherunitinwater.Generallyspeaking

peopleareusedtonotputtingbatteriesinwater,soitshouldn’tcomeasasurprisethatwhile

youreBikecangetcaughtintherain,youshouldavoidhosingforacleanitdownwithbatteryin

place(andespeciallyturnedon)oraimingthehoseinsidethebatterymounting.Tocleanthe

batteryandmountingcassettewerecommendtheusealintfreeclothandverysmallamountof

lukewarmwaterontheclothtowipedown.Donotuseanyformofchemicalcleaningagentor

waterdirectlyonthebatteryormounting.

TheBatteryManagementSystem(BMS)

Thissmallpieceofelectronicsismountedinsidethebatterycase.Atnotimeshouldyouattempt

toopenthebatterycase.ThejoboftheBMSistobalancethechargebetweenthecells(there

are12cellsina36vbattery)andpreventthebatteryfromexcessivedischarging.Unlikemany

electronicgadgets,theBMSisdesignedtolookafterthebattery,soasyourideitwon’tfeellike

thebikeisslowingorlosingpower.Whatwillhappenisthatbatterywillcutoffandyouwilllose

power.VeryrarelyaBMSandcontrollermaycutpowertoprotectthesystem.Thisismostlikely

becauseofthrottleabuse!.TheE90isdesignedtofeedpowertothesystemusingasortof

shortrampingupofpowerratherthanasharpoffandon.WhenyouturnthethrottleontheE90,

you’llnoticeforashortmomentthatthewheelrampsuppower.ThisistoassisttheBMSand

controllerinoptimisingperformance,andtofeedpowertothemotortopreventsuddenspikesin

powerorjerkingtheriderforward.

GeneralAdvice:Youmustbeovertheageof14torideanelectricbikeinmoststates.Bikes

mustnotberiddenatspeedsabove25km/hwiththemotorengagedonanypublicroador

cycleway.Youdonotneedtoregisterthebike(aswithamotorbikeorcar).Youdonotneeda

licencetorideandelectricbike.Youdoneedcommonsenseandanawarenessofotherroad

users.

YOURFIRSTRIDE

PressuparrowuntilONEassistbarappears.Thisisthelowestpowersetting.Readyyourselfto

ride,checkyoursurroundingsfortrafficorotherhazards.Pedalyourbike.Afterhalfaturn,the

motorwillcutinandstarttoassistyou.ItwillkeepassistingyouuntilyoueitherSTOPusingthe

pedalsorusethebreak.

Trythis,rideforabouttenseconds,thenstoppedalingandcoast.Youwillnoticethemotorcuts

out.Pedalagainandpowerreturns.Congratulations,youareridinganelectricbike!

TherearethreewaystoridetheE90

1. ridebypedalpoweralone,i.e.fullyhumanpowered.

2. ridebyelectricmotoralonebyoperatingthethrottlemanually.

3. rideusingbothtogetheratthesametime.

Unpoweredriding

YoucanridetheE90withoutactivatingtheelectricalsystem,orhavingthebatteryinstalled.Fully

humanpowered(normal)ridingwillnotdamagethemotororbike.Goforit.

Poweredriding

Step1Turnonthebattery

BATTERYON/OFFSWITCH

Installthebatterybyslidingitintothecassettecasing.Itonlyfitsoneway.Pushitintoplace

firmlyandwill‘click’intoplace.Usingthekeylock,turnthekey.Thislocksthebatteryintoplace.

Youmaynowremovethekeyforsecurity.Thereisarockerswitchattherearsideofthe

battery,pressitandaredlightwillilluminatetoshowthebatteryisoperational.Youcantestthe

battery’schargebypressingthetestbuttononthetopofthebattery.Fullgreenlightsindicatea

fullbattery

Step2Turnonthedisplay

TURNINGONTHEDISPLAY.

TheLCDDisplayislocatedonthehandlebar.ThiscontrolsallthefunctionalityoftheE90

system.Pressthebuttonbetweentheupanddownarrowkeys.Holditdownfor2secondsand

you’llseealltheLCDindicatorsturntoblackbriefly,followedbysomenumbers(whichare

preprogrammedtotellthebikewhatsizewheelyouhaveandpowersettingstousefor

Australia).Thisonlytakesacoupleofseconds.Thedisplaywillthenshowyouinformationabout

thesystemthespeed,distancetravelled,batteryoutput,batterychargeandmodeofriding.

Step3Setthemodeofoperation

Youcaneitherridein“auto”or“pedalassist”modes.Therearesixlevelsofassist,fromlow

(economytohighboost).

SettingtoAuto(Throttlemode)

SHOWSAUTOMODEONTHEDISPLAY

TheLCDhasasmalliconwhichshows“AUTO”.PresstheDOWNarrowonthedisplayuntilthe

six‘pedalassist’barsdisappearandAUTOisdisplayed.ThisputsthebikeinTHROTTLE

MODE.BECAREFUL.Themotorisactivatedusingthetwistgripthrottleonthehandlebar.The

moreitisturned,themorepowerissenttothemotor.

WARNING:Ifyouturnthethrottlewiththewheelontheground,thebikemaylurchforward.Ifyou

wishtotestthemotorisworking,LIFTTHEFRONTWHEELBEFORETURNINGTHE

THROTTLE.ALWAYSUSETHEBRAKETOSTOPTHEWHEELBEFOREPUTTINGONTHE

GROUND.LOOKAROUNDTOMAKESUREITSSAFETOTEST.
