1 Technical safety information

1. Commissioning and operation of the device may only be performed by qualified

personnel. "Qualified personnel" as defined by this technical safety information

means persons who have the authorisation to start up, earth and designate devices,

systems and electric circuits in accordance with security technology standards.

2. Mounting, positioning and wiring may only be conducted when the electricity

supply to the assembly has been cut off.

3. The faultless and safe operation of the product presupposes proper transport,

appropriate storage, positioning and assembly, as well as careful operation and

maintenance.

4. Voltage must only be supplied by VDE-tested and CE-certified power packs.

5. Ensure that the voltage supply and the data cable are correctly connected.

6. If the product is brought into the working area from a cold environment,

condensation may form. The product must be completely dry before being

commissioned. Do not assemble or install the product near water or in damp

surroundings.

7. Do not take the product apart or remove the enclosure. The guarantee rights will

become invalid if the housing is opened.

2 Tasks of the LAN Gateway

2.1 Field of application

The LAN Gateway is used to connect an E•LDS system to a network (LAN) for the purpose of local operation on

site (e.g. for the market manager), as well as for remote supervision and configuration. This TCP/IP-based form

of communication represents an alternative to transmission via serial interface, modem or CAN bus-PC adapter,

and it so helps the development towards a network-based communication solution:

It is possible to access the E•LDS system via a PC in the same network (local LAN) by means of the LDSWin

software. In addition, a connection can also be made via the LAN Gateway to an E•LDS system outside the

network boundaries. To do this, existing Internet connections can be used to access an E•LDS system from a

PC at another location.

Violation of data protection! The LAN gateway is not equipped with any security

mechanisms for the encryption of communication via the LAN interface. For this

reason connections should only be established in secure networks. For

communication via public or insecure networks additional security components (e.g.

VPN router etc.) should be employed.

Under no circumstances should the LAN gateway be connected directly with the

Internet.

CAN bus address conflict! The parallel operation of a LAN gateway and a PC-CAN

bus adapter is only possible when the CAN bus address for the LAN gateway is

configured to 127 (see section 4.5.3).

Connection:

Simultaneous access to up to four clients is possible, of which three via LAN and one via serial connection.

Interfaces:

1x serial as per RS232 standard

1x serial reduced (Rx,Tx) to RS232 standard to CAN2 socket

1x CAN bus interface (RS-232)

1x Ethernet interface (RJ-45 / 10BASE-T)

Voltage supply:

The LAN Gateway is supplied with voltage via the type NT02 power pack (provided). The power pack is coupled

laterally (usually on the left) to the LAN Gateway and it must be supplied with 24 V DC of a separate power

supply (order no. KGLNT23024).

2.2 Use of the LAN gateway as an alarm path

On principle, the LAN gateway can be used as an alarm path. Alarm signalling can only be carried out in active

fetch mode. The precondition for this is a PC with the PC software LDSWin as remote station which can connect

to the LAN gateway via the network. This then calls up the alarms of the LDS system on a cyclical basis. The

LAN gateway is not equipped with an active transmission function for alarms.

The LAN gateway should not be used as the only alarm path. A second alarm path, employing a different

technology e.g. an uplink to the alarm system, telephone dialling device or similar, must be implemented.

When assessing the reliability of a network based alarm path the availability class of all participating

(sub)networks must be considered. As a rule Internet connections do not achieve the availability level of very

good telephone networks.

3 New features compared to the previous version

Version V1.2 of the LAN gateway offers the following new features compared to the previous version:

•Configuration of the TCP/IP port for communication via LAN. The TCP/IP port for communication via

LAN can now be freely configured, see chapter 4.5.2.

•The LAN gateway is now included in the monitoring of the system’s CAN bus nodes and is subject to

failure monitoring by the store computer (alternatively: AL 300), see chapter 4.5.7.

•A serial connection for the use of LDSWin can also be established, see chapter 5.2.

•The LAN gateway signals an existing CAN bus communication to the store computer by means of the

continuous illumination of the LED CAN BUS active (yellow).

•The LAN gateway is equipped with an option for monitoring the processing sequence by means of trace

messages. This function can be configured in detail via the so called trace level, see chapter 4.5.5.

•The configuration of the LAN gateway can be displayed on the monitor by calling up the function

“showsysconf“, see chapter 4.5.6.

•A ping command is available on the monitor for testing the network connection.

4 Assembly and start-up of the LAN Gateways

4.1 Assembly and CAN bus connection

Before the LAN Gateway is started for the first time, it must be connected to the CAN bus via the Sub-D plug

(CAN2) on the front. To this end, a CAN bus connection must be interrupted (generally at the CI 3000 Store

Computer) and the CAN bus-Y cable supplied (1) must be inserted in between. Subsequently, the LAN gateway

must be supplied with 24 V DC (power supply order no. KGLNT23024):

To communicate within a network, the LAN Gateway needs an individual IP address,

including the corresponding subnet mask and a free TCP/IP port. If a connection is

made via a firewall, the port used must be released for the TCP/IP service.

These details must be obtained from the administrator of the network before

commissioning and configuring the LAN Gateway as described in section 4.5.1.

The LAN Gateway may only be integrated in the network once this has been done.

If a local, serial connection to a LDSWin PC is also required in parallel, then the

instructions in chapter 4.3 are to be followed. Specific details of connection to the

CAN bus (specifying the type of conductor, permissible conductor length, necessary

terminating resistors, and correct routing, etc.) are described in detail in the

operating instruction "Basics and General Safety and Connection Instructions".

Unprofessional shielding of the CAN bus leads to electromagnetic noise fields.

During wiring work, it is essential that the conductors be connected by a professional

and correctly shielded.

4.2 Establishment of the serial connection for configuration

The LAN Gateway has an extended monitor interface with Z-modem file transfer. This is at the SUB-D socket

designated "RS232" on the front of the enclosure.

Via this interface with a Z-modem-capable terminal program

•the configuration of the LAN gateway is conducted

•the commands of the monitor interface can be used.

•software (e.g. Windows HyperTerminal) can be updated.

A null modem cable (1) is needed for a serial connection between the PC and the

LAN Gateway.

4.2.1 Calling up and configurating the "HyperTerminal" terminal program

In the standard Windows installation 1 (for example, Windows 2000/XP), at

Start -> programs -> accessories -> communications -> HyperTerminal

a terminal program permits communication between the PC and the LAN Gateway via the serial interface

(by means of null modem cable).

After launching the program, a name must first be entered

(e.g. LAN Gateway) together with a symbol for the desired connection.

The port must be selected where the null modem cable is attached

(e.g. COM13, just like LDSWin).

The program first requests the various telephone connection settings

(country, region and area code). These details have no significance for

the connection with the LAN Gateway and they can therefore be selected

quite freely.

In the mask that will now open, the following settings can be made for the

serial interface.

In Widows Vista and higher, the HyperTerminal is no longer included. Alternatively, the program Terra Term mentioned in

chapter 9.2can be used.
