Spray Gun Kit

1. Description

The Firestone Spray Gun Kit includes the spray gun (with extension)

and a rubber hose. The spray gun and hose were specifically designed

to spray the RubberCover™ Bonding Adhesive BA-2016 S and,

therefore, cannot be substituted for another kit that may not be

compatible with the adhesive.

2. Connecting

Remember that the canister should be at a moderate temperature (15°- 25°C) when spraying and the operator

should be wearing personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and gloves.

With the tip of the gun facing away, rotate the trigger lock (1) clockwise until it is tight against the trigger (2)

preventing it from moving.

Attach the large end of the hose to the gun. Use a wrench to ensure a secure fit but do not overtighten.

Remove the plastic thread protector from the valve assembly of the canister and connect the free end of the hose

to the canister. Make sure that threads are aligned properly. The fitting should turn easily. Use a wrench to tighten

the connection but do not overtighten.

Open the valve of the canister slowly and check for leakages at both connections. Close the valve if leaks occur and

check fittings to make sure they are connected properly.

The canister valve should only be closed when transferring the gun and hose to another canister. Once the valve is

open and the kit is attached to the canister, never close it otherwise the adhesive in the kit will dry out and the kit

will have to be cleaned. The gun must be closed during transportation to avoid spillages.

3. Spraying

Ensure that the gun and hose are in good condition for spraying and that both are properly connected prior

usage. Unlock the trigger (1) with a maximum of three rotations. The condition of the spray equipment should

be checked periodically during the working day.

Prepare a piece of scrap material for use as a spray gun test target. Depress the spray gun trigger (2) fully to spray

adhesive.

Provide a consistent dispersion of the adhesive.

Keep the spray gun with the nozzle at a distance of 25 cm to 30 cm from the surface. We recommend a spraying

pattern of 1 meter wide. Spraying in a wider arc will not provide consistent coverage.

Keep the spray gun moving while spraying to ensure even coverage.

Always engage the trigger lock (1) when you stop spraying to prevent the spray gun from being triggered accidentally.

4. Re-use

The spray gun and rubber hose have a long service life if properly maintained and can be re-used once the

canister is empty.

Close the valve of the empty canister and remove the pressure in the hose depressing the spray gun trigger (2).

Lock the spray gun trigger (1) and disconnect the hose from the canister.

Connect the hose to the new canister and tighten the connection.

Open the valve on the new canister slowly and squeeze the trigger (2) to remove all air from the kit.

5. Control

Check guns, hoses and connections daily and replace worn or damaged parts immediately.

Close the valve on the canister if there is no adhesive coming out of the spray equipment.

Disconnect the gun from the hose and open the valve of the canister slowly to check if the adhesive flows out of the

hose.

Follow the cleaning procedure below to dissolve any dried adhesive.

6. Cleaning

Before disassembly or removal of any part of the gun or attached components, close the valve of the canister and

release the pressure by depressing the trigger (2). Never assume that the system pressure is zero.

Firestone recommends cleaning the nozzle (3) immediately after application of the adhesive. This can be done by

spraying Firestone Cleaner on the nozzle.

All nozzles are precision made and should be handled with care. Loosen the nozzle and apply the Cleaner. When

heavier cleaning is required, leave it to soak in solvent to dissolve any dried adhesive. Use only solvents that are

suitable to clean metal, such as the Cleaner or synthetic solvents.

Do not poke any of the holes in the nozzle with metal instruments. If poking is necessary, use only soft tools or a

clean cotton cloth.

The spray gun and rubber hose can be immersed for half an hour in synthetic solvents to dissolve dried adhesive.
