1. Introduction
Thank you for purchasing this Gallagher FenceAlarm.
Gallagher, as a world leader in electric fencing, is committed to providing
leading products. The SMS FenceAlarm is a unique plug and play security
for your fence. The FenceAlarm warns you through an SMS message on
your mobile phone if there is insufficient voltage (e.g. caused by
vegetation) or if the fence line is interrupted (e.g. caused by opening a
gate).
If for any reason you are not happy with your purchase, please return it to
your dealer within 30 days of purchase. If you have any questions
regarding this product please email us: info.uk@gallaghereurope.com, or
contact the store where you purchased this Gallagher product.
Before you start the installation it is important that the installation
instructions are studied carefully.
2. Important information
Switch off the electric fence before mounting or opening up the
FenceAlarm.
Do not leave dead batteries in the FenceAlarm. Dead batteries can leak
and cause damage to the FenceAlarm.
Make sure there is always enough call credits fitted on the SIM card of
the FenceAlarm and check this on a regular basis.
3. Preparing for use
The FenceAlarm only works if a prepaid SIM card with enough credits has
been fitted. A SIM card with a subscription can also be used. To fit the SIM
card, proceed as follows:
1. Unscrew the 4 screws of the cover.
2. Place a SIM card in the SIM card slot of the FenceAlarm with the chip
facing downwards. Make sure the PIN code is set at “0000” (default

2
setting) or disabled. The SIM card lies on the cover behind the rubber
inlay.
3. Fit 3 Alkaline (non-rechargeable AA) batteries in the battery holder.
4. Screw the cover back on tight. Make sure there is no dust or dirt
between the rubber seal and the cover to prevent contact with moist.
4. Enter a telephone number
To have the FenceAlarm communicating with a mobile phone you can
enter a mobile phone number to receive SMS fence messages. To enter a
telephone number in the FenceAlarm you have to send an SMS text
message.
SIM

3
1a. Type an SMS message with the text M1:+44 and your mobile
telephone number. Do not send this message yet!
Note:
+44 is the country code for the UK.
Please use the correct country code if
outside of the UK.
The Mmust be in CAPITALS.
The “0” at the start of your mobile
phone number should be left out.
Everything must be typed without
spaces, there must be no spaces
between any characters.
1b. Changing settings, Type an SMS message with the requested changes
(paragraph 10) Do not send this message yet!
2. Switch the magnet to OFF for at least 10 seconds (the lamp has to
go out).
Say your own mobile
phone number is
07956111222. The
number of the SIM
card fitted in the
FenceAlarm is
07956111333.
Now you should send
an SMS text message
with the text:
M1:+447956222333
(M in CAPITALS) to
07956111333
(FenceAlarm).
(FenceAlarm).

4
3. Switch the magnet slowly back and forth between OFF
and ON a few times; continue until the lamp flashes
blue once. Now leave the magnet switched to ON.
4. Wait until the Gallagher FenceAlarm lamp flashes alternately blue
and green. The Gallagher FenceAlarm is now connected with the
GSM network. You now have a maximum of 2 minutes to carry out
step 5.
If the lamp stops flashing blue and green, then you have to carry out
steps 2 to 4 again.
5. Send the SMS text message to the number of the SIM card in the
Gallagher FenceAlarm.
6. After a few minutes you will receive a status message. This status
message is explained later on in this guide, but in the status
message you should see "M1:" followed by your telephone
number.
5. Installation of the FenceAlarm
For optimal operation, the Gallagher FenceAlarm must be located as far
away as possible from the energiser. The length of the fencing to the right
of the FenceAlarm should preferably be the same as the length of the
fencing to the left.
The fencing must be disconnected in both directions at the FenceAlarm.
You can do this by attaching the fencing from both directions to 2 separate
insulators.
Connect the red clamp of the FenceAlarm to the left/right part and
connect the yellow clamp to the other part of the fence line.
The green clamp needs to be connected to an earth peg (not included).

5
6. Starting up
To activate the FenceAlarm switch the magnet from OFF to ON.
The FenceAlarm is then automatically activated. It may take a few minutes
for it to start up. As soon as the FenceAlarm is activated, the lamp will
flash green once every 12 seconds. In order to save energy, the lamp does
not burn too brightly, and is therefore hard to see in daylight. You will also
get a status SMS message with the current measurement values and
settings.

6
7. Operation of the FenceAlarm
The Gallagher FenceAlarm provides you with details about the fencing
voltage measured in two directions. It also warns you if at any time the
fencing voltage falls below the minimum required level (for example, if
wild plants have caused a breakdown in the operation of the fencing). As
long as the situation has not been rectified, you will receive regular
reminder SMS messages.
The Gallagher FenceAlarm will send an alert immediately if the fencing
voltage disappears completely in either direction. For example, if the wires
are cut or disconnected in any way whatsoever.
The Gallagher FenceAlarm also measures the interval between 2 pulses,
and sends this interval measurement in the Status SMS message.
The Gallagher FenceAlarm will send a Status SMS message at an adjustable
interval (standard 1x per week) to keep you informed about the status and
operation of the fencing. This is the “Heartbeat SMS”.
The FenceAlarm also has an internal timer which indicates if the power
pack of the energizer needs to be recharged. This timer can be configured
so you are sent an SMS message after a certain amount of time has
elapsed.

7
8. Read received SMS messages
The FenceAlarm informs you about the current status and sends alarms via
SMS text messages.
A STATUS SMS message will look something like this:

GSM signal strength is 48%
SMSno:5
A total of 5 SMS messages have been sent
M1:+31611112222
Telephone number the SMS is sent to
