Step 3: String the Rod and Add Tackle
1. Grab the p of the line with one hand
2. Open the bail arm with the other hand
3. Place the line through each of the rod guides starng with the boom one.
4. Tie onto the end of the line either a swivel or your favorite tackle
Step 4: Set the Drag Knob
1. Turn the drag knob clockwise to ghten or counterclockwise to loosen
2. Manually pull line from your reel to determine how the drag has been eected
3. Repeat these steps unl the drag is sat at a desirable amount
• It will take experience to determine what to set your drag to
• If you don’t know set the drag on the loose side as seng it too ght can cause the line to break
when reeling in a sh
• Seng the drag should always be done before you start shing. However, you CAN change the
drag while shing. If you realize the drag is too loose ghten it a bit. If it is too ght then loosen it
a bit.
• If the drag is too loose the sh can easily take line out of the reel. The hook will have too lile ten-
sion in the sh’s mouth, allowing the sh to spit the hook out
• If the drag is too ght, the rod will be bending a lot and the sh will not be taking the line out.
4. It is important to note that when reeling in a sh, the sh should be able to take line from the reel (unless
the sh is very small). How ght the drag will be depends on what size of sh you are shing for and what
weight of line your are using.
