Speedlight
• Attach Speedlight to <hot shoe> 10 oftheViperTTL
receiver. Using the slide switch 16 selectoneofthe
groupA,BorCforthisreceiver.Turnon12 the Viper
TTLreceiverwhichwillgiveagreenashinglight 11
to indicate power is on. Turn on the Speedlight. Press
<Test> button 15 onreceivertoconrmSpeedlightis
working
• Using the cable socket 14 a studio light can be
connected to the Viper TTL receiver via a “Hähnel
Studio Light Cable” which is available as a separate
accessory
• UnlimitednumbersofSpeedlights/studiolightswith
ViperTTLreceiverscanbeallocatedtooneordifferent
groups
• For “Nikon” version, set the Nikon Speedlight to <i-TTL>
mode
Camera
• MounttheViperTTLtransmitterontothehot-shoe of
thecameraandlockitintoplace.TurnontheViper
TTLtransmitterandthecamera.Press <Test> 08
buttonontransmittertoconrmSpeedlightistriggered
• Press buttons Aor Bor Cto change the MODE
settingofeachgroupto<M>manual,<TTL> TTL or
<blank> OFF
• Take a test photograph now and the Viper TTL
transmitterwillsendawirelesssignaltoeach
Speedlight connected to a Viper TTL receiver and to
each Modus 600RT. The Speedlights will be set to
themodeselectedforeachgroupontheViperTTL
transmitter
The Viper TTL LCD 5willshowthesettingofeachgroup
• AgroupisturnedOFFiftheLCDisnotshowingthegroup
• AgroupisinManualmodewhen<M> is displayed next
to the group
• A group is in TTLmodewhen<TTL> is displayed next to
the group
Each group Aor Bor Cis set independently and it is
possibletousesimultaneouslydifferentsettingforeachgroup
(e.g. Group Amaybein<M>, Group Bin <TTL> and
Group Cturned OFF)

Group Power Control setting for
Manual and TTL FEC
FromtheViperTTLtransmitteryoucanadjustthepower
levelofeachgroupwhichisin<M>mode
1. Press <SEL> 02 select button and all three icons A,
Band Cwillash
2. Press one button Aor Bor Cto select which group
you want to adjust the power. Now only the selected
group icon Aor Bor Cwillash
3. Turn the red <Adjust Dial> 03 up or down to adjust
the power level
4. Theoutputpowercanbeadjustedfrom1/128to1/1by
turning the red <Adjust Dial> 03 up or down
5. Press <SEL> 02 again to save the new power level
FromtheViperTTLtransmitteryoucanadjusttheFEC
levelofeachgroupwhichisin<TTL>mode
1. Press <SEL> 02 select button and all three icons A,
Band Cwillash
2. Press one button Aor Bor Cto select which
group you want to adjust the FEC level. Now only the
selected group icon Aor Bor Cwillash
3. Turn the red <Adjust Dial> 03 up or down to adjust
the FEC level
4. The icon < >willbeshownwhentheashexposure
compensationamountischanged.Turingthered
<Adjust Dial> 03 upwillincreasetheFECtomax+3.
Turing the dial 03 downwillreducetheFECtomin-3
5. Press <SEL> 02 again to save the new power level
• Thepowerlevelofastudiolightcannotbecontrolled
wirelessbytheViperTTL.Adjustthelevelmanuallyfrom
the studio light controls
• ThesettingofeachgroupintheViperTTLwillremaineven
iftheViperTTListurnedofforneedsbatteriesexchanged
• Manual output power setting < -- >. In this power output
level the Viper TTL will not control the power level this can
beadjustedontheSpeedlight.Itisrecommendedtouse
thissettingfornoncompatibleSpeedlightswhichdonot
allowpowercontrolviatheViperTTLwirelesssystem

FromtheViperTTLtransmitteryoucaneasilyadjustthe
outputpowerlevelandFECsettingforallgroups
1. Press <SEL> 02 buttonformorethan3secondsand
allpowerlevels/FECsettingsofgroupsA,B,Cwillash
2. Turn <Adjust Dial> 03 toadjustsimultaneouslyall
power levels/FEC settings up or down to the new
desired value
3. Then press <SEL> button 02 to save the setting

High Speed Sync
Press and hold button Bto switch on high speed sync -
the icon 20 will switch on. High speed sync applies to all
groupsatthesametime.
• For“Nikon”versionensurealsothatthecamerasettingis
set to 1/320’s (Auto FP) or 1/320’s (Auto FP). Both Viper
transmitterandCameramenumustbesettoHSS.Refer

Second Curtain Sync
When the high speed sync icon 20 is switched on, press
and hold button Bagain to switch on second curtain
sync - the icon 21 will switch on. Second curtain sync
appliestoallgroupsatthesametime
Toreturntonormalsync,pressandholdbutton Bagain,
until the icon 21 switchesoff
• For “Nikon” version, the Second Curtain Sync (Rear-
curtainsync)isnotcontrolledfromtheViperTTL.To
enableSecondCurtainSyncsetinthecameramenuto
Rear-curtainsync.Refertocameramanualformoreinfo
Always On
Press and hold the <SEL> 02 button and keep it pressed
whileyouswitchonthetransmitter.Thebatteryindicator
(23 willash.TurnAdjustDial03 until Always ON 22 is
displayed. Now turn OFF and ON 01 again to enable the
AlwaysONfeature.WhenAlwaysONtheViperTTLis
permanentlytransmittingasignal.
Battery Level
• ThetransmitterLCDshowsthelevelofthebatteryfor
thetransmitter23
• To check the receiver battery level, check LED 11
whichashesgreentoindicatenormalpower
Viper TTL transmitter hot shoe

in hot shoe 07 .ASpeedlightttedtothishotshowwill
operate as Group AforCanonversionandGroup Mfor
Nikon version.
• For the Nikon version group (M) is controlled by the
settingofthecameraandnotcontrolledbyanyofthe
Viper TTL groups
DCM Digital Channel Matching
• Open channel -WhenyouusetheViperTTLforthe
rsttime,the2.4GHzwirelessconnectionisusinga
default“openchannel”.Thisallowsseveraltransmitters
toindividuallycontrolthesameselectionofreceivers.
The“openchannel”canbeusefulwhenusingseveral
cameraswiththesamelightingsystem.Butitisalso
morepronetootheroutsideinterferences
• DCM -DigitalChannelMatchingisamoresecure
codedwirelesssystemwhichwillavoidanyexternal
interferencebetweenViperTTLtransmitterand
receiver.Carryoutthefollowingsetuptomatchall

• ItispossibletoresettheViperTTLtransmitterand
receiver to “open channel”
• Hold down <Test> button 08 andturnONtransmitter
and continue to hold down button 08 formorethan5sec.
LED 06 willchangefromrapidashingtoalwaysON.
Transmitterisnow“openchannel”
• Now hold down receiver <Test> button 15 and turn ON
receiver and continue to hold down button 15 formore
than 5 sec. LED 11 willchangefromrapidashingto
always ON. Receiver is now “open channel”
• Ifyouwishtouseold3rdpartySpeedlight’swhicharenot
E-TTLori-TTLcompatible,thensetswitch 16 to Group
“C”whilstperformingtheresetoftheReceiverto“open
channel”. This allows 3rd party Speedlight’s to be triggered
