tape library

2/20, 4/40, 6/60

setting up your library

SCSI Interface Cable(s): Four-meter SCSI cable(s)

with 68-pin connectors.

SCSI Terminator(s): 68-pin SCSI terminator (HVDS

or LVDS) to terminate the SCSI chain.

Fibre Channel Cable: Optical short-wave cable that

connects the Fibre Channel card to the host, hub,

or switch (for Fibre Channel configurations).

Fibre Channel GBIC: Connects the Fibre Channel

cable to the host, hub, or switch (for standard

performance Fibre Channel controllers only).

SCSI Jumper Cable(s): 68-pin cable that connects

the library controller or Fibre Channel card to a

drive.

Tape Cartridges: Cartridges included for data

backup.

Cleaning Cartridge: Cleaning cartridge to be used

when cleaning the drive.

Power Cord(s): Localized power cord(s) included

with the library.

User's Guide: Describes installation, operation, and

troubleshooting information.

Installation Poster: Provides an overview on

installing and configuring the library, as well as

additional information on support.

Trim Brackets (field rack only): Aligns the library to

the depth of the rack.

Host Interface Card: Install into the host system as

needed for your configuration.

Bar Code Label Kit: Bar code labels for data and

cleaning cartridges, and reordering information.

Library Accessories

Depending on the configuration, the following accessories may be shipped with the library.

Contact your support or service representative to obtain additional parts.

Install Rack Components

Install the clip nuts and mounting rails.

Ensure there is enough clearance between

the top and bottom rails for the library.

Note: The terms 20-slot, 40-slot and 60-slot

indicate maximum drive and slot capacity

for the library.

Install the Library into a Rack

Position the library so that

the side of the library faces

the front of an appropriately

rated mechanical lift. Align

the back of the library to the

rack and begin turning the

lift's hand crank until the

library is at the desired

height. Gently slide the

library into the rack.

Tip: To reduce the weight of the library, you can

remove all the drives.

Note: The 20-slot library can be safely installed by

two people without using a lift.

Follow these steps to get connected in minutes. Depending on the configuration ordered, some of these steps may

have been completed at the factory. For users unfamiliar with storage devices, please refer to the user guide for the

library. Note: Your library model might look different from the illustrations used on this poster.

Install Library Components

Depending on your library

configuration, install the Fibre Channel

card(s) and drive(s).

Check the Host Configuration

Ensure that the host system has the

appropriate number of card expansion

slots and host interface cards for your

library configuration. For more

information on cabling, refer to Steps 5

and 6. For more information on

installation, refer to the user guide for

the card.



Connect the Library (SCSI)

Install the SCSI interface cables

and terminators. Refer to chapter

1 of the library User's Guide for

additional cabling information.

Configure the Library and

Power on the Host

Use the standby switch to power on

the library. If this is a Fibre Channel

installation, configure the library before

connecting it to the Fibre Channel

topology. (Refer to chapter 3 of library

User's Guide.)

Important: If you are using

Fibre Channel, power up in this order:

library, hub and/or switch (if applicable),

and then the host.

Install and Configure the Host

Drivers and Backup Software

(Refer to the backup software documentation for

more information.)

To verify that the host and library

are connected, look for the library's

SCSI ID on the host when the host is

powered on. You can also use HP

Library & Tape Tools (available from

www.hp.com/go/support) to ensure

the host and library are

communicating.

Run a test backup to ensure the

host, backup software, and library

are correctly configured.

Getting Started

Post-Installation Configuration Tasks

Complete these tasks on the library's front panel during the initial setup.

Refer to Chapter 3 of the library User's Guide for more information.

Date and Time: When you first set up the library or if it is disconnected for an extended period of time,

you must set the real-time clock.

Mailslot: The library is initially configured for a one-slot mailslot. You can also select no mailslot, a

five-slot mailslot, or a ten-slot mailslot. The mailslot allows zero, one, five, or ten slots to be

reserved. When configuring the mailslot, ensure that the slots that will be reserved for the mailslot

are empty and that you reconfigure the host to recognize this configuration.

Password: The library does not have a password enabled when it arrives. For additional security,

enable and select a password.

Remote Access: You can monitor and manage your library anywhere on the network through user-

friendly web pages. You will need to configure the library using DHCP or by entering the IP

address, subnet mask, and gateway address. You must enable and select a library password and

then use that same password to configure the library remotely.

Note: The library has a mixed media feature that allows the use of two drive technologies in the same

library. For more information, refer to Appendix D in the library User’s Guide.
