Supported configurations
Supported configurations are described in the Enterprise Virtual Array QuickSpecs, available at the
following web site:
http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/arraysystems.html
The extended interoperability of the heterogeneous Storage Area Network (SAN) allows you to mix
several types of HP StorageWorks storage systems. The HP StorageWorks SAN design reference guide is
a detailed guide for SAN configurations and is available at the following web site:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/san/documentation.html
EVA compatibility
Table 1 lists the operating system specifications. For multipathing information, see your HP StorageWorks
4000/6000/8000 Enterprise Virtual Array connectivity installation and reference guide.
NOTE:
Table 1 contains current minimum-level operating system specifications at the time of this release. Some
component versions may change due to revision. For the latest information, see the following HP web
site: http://h18006.www1.hp.com/storage/index.html

Switch support
This release supports the Fibre Channel (FC) switches and firmware versions listed in the HP
StorageWorks SAN design reference guide, which can be downloaded from the following HP web site:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/storageworks/san/documentation.html
NOTE:
HP recommends that you do not mix switch firmware versions in your SAN. It is considered a best
practice to uniformly upgrade all switches in the SAN.
Multiple-path support
Novell NetWare with EVA4000/6000/8000 requires the installation of Novell NetWare native MPIO
on each host to achieve high-availability, multiple-path capability.
Single-path support
Novell NetWare servers require a single Fibre Channel adapter (FCA) to support single-path mode.
NOTE:
Single-path mode should not be used in mission-critical environments.
Server support
AllNovellN
etWare certified servers are supported.
HBA drivers
To find and download the latest HBA drivers supported by HP for storage arrays, see the following

Operating constraints
You can find information about operating constraints specific to the EVA and HP StorageWorks
Command View EVA in their respective release notes.
Failover/failback
Failback preference settings for the Hierarchical Storage Virtual (HSV) controllers are specific to the
operating system. See the HP StorageWorks OS connectivity for the Enterprise Virtual Array installation
and reference guide for more information.
Storage System Scripting utility for EVA
The latest version of the Storage System Scripting Utility (SSSU) can be accessed at the following HP
web site:

Avoiding problemsituations
The following sections describe problems that may arise and their solutions.
Known problems
You can find information about problems specific to the EVA and Command View EVA in their respective
release notes.
Using the proper service pack with the SSSU
Ensure that the required service pack is installed if you are using sssunlm.nlm with Novell NetWare.
Otherwise, a critical failure occurs on the second run. See Table 1 for a list of Novell NetWare service
packs.
Using snapshot or snapclone
When you create a snapshot or a snapclone with Novell NetWare, you must present the snapshot or
snapclone to a host other than the host from which it was created. You cannot access a snapshot or
snapclone from the same host from which it was created.
For example, suppose you have a unit presented on NetWare Host A and you make a snapshot or
snapclone of it. If you present this new unit to the same host (Host A), NetWare perceives a conflict.
Because the new unit is identical to an existing unit, the host assumes that the two units are a broken
software mirrorset. NetWare deactivates both devices and informs you that there is a possible broken
mirrorset. To access the new unit, present it to a different host from which the snapshot or snapclone
was created.
You may also choose to present the snapshot or snapclone to a host at a later time, or not at all.
