About the Powermax65/85 voltage divider
The Powermax65 and Powermax85 power supplies are designed to use an optional, five-position voltage divider. The
internal voltage divider provides a scaled down arc voltage of 20:1, 21.1:1, 30:1, 40:1, and 50:1 (maximum output of
18V). A receptacle on the rear of the power supply provides access to the scaled down arc voltage and signals for arc
transfer and plasma start.
Note: The factory presets the voltage divider to 50:1. To change the voltage divider to a different setting, refer to the
instructions later in this Field Service Bulletin.
CAUTION: The internal voltage divider provides a maximum of 18 V under open circuit conditions.
This is an impedance-protected functional extra low voltage (ELV) output to prevent
shock, energy, and fire under normal conditions at the machine interface receptacle
and under single fault conditions with the machine interface wiring. The voltage divider
is not fault tolerant and ELV outputs do not comply with safety extra low voltage
(SELV) requirements for direct connection to computer products.

Remove the power supply cover and Mylar barrier
1. Turn OFF the power, disconnect the power cord, and disconnect the gas supply.
2. Remove the 8 small screws (2) from the power supply cover.
3. Remove the 8 large screws (1) from the power supply cover.
4. Lift the cover (3) off the power supply.

3. Route the CPC port and attached cables above the fan housing and over to the CPC port opening on the rear
panel of the power supply.
4. Insert the CPC port into the CPC port opening from inside the power supply. Be sure to position the port with the
green/yellow ground wire at the bottom of the port.
5. Secure the port with two screws (075534). Two screws are sufficient when inserted in opposite corners of the
CPC port.
6. Attach the green/yellow ground wire to the gas filter housing using the screw at the right-front corner of the
housing.
Note: This screw also connects another ground wire to the gas filter housing – the ground wire in the
power supply that connects at its other end to the center panel.

Loosen the front panel of the power supply
To provide easy access for connecting the interface cables to the power board:
1. Remove the metal strap from the top of the power supply by lifting the strap straight up. The strap holds the two
end panels together.
2. Carefully place the power supply onto the fan side to access the bottom screws.
3. Remove the two screws that hold the front panel to the bottom of the power supply.
4. Using a blade screwdriver, carefully pry the front panel off the bottom of the power supply.
5. Position the power supply upright.
6. Carefully pull the front panel away from the body of the power supply. The front panel is still attached to the power
supply body and can only move a short distance.

Route and attach the cables to the power board
1. Route the large cable (from the CPC port) through the top grommet above the voltage divider board and down the
side of the power board to the connector (J21 for both CSA and CE).
2. Push the cable connector onto the power board connector (J21 for both CSA and CE). Be sure to align the red
wire in the cable connector with “RED” that is printed on the power board.
3. Route the small cable (from the right side of the voltage divider board) through the bottom grommet above the
voltage divider board and down the side of the power board to the connector (J32 for CSA, J33 for CE)
4. Push the cable connector onto the power board connector (J32 for CSA, J33 for CE). Be sure to align the red wire
in the cable connector with “RED” that is printed on the power board.

Set the five-position voltage divider on the Powermax65/85
The factory presets the voltage divider to 50:1. To change the voltage divider to a different setting:
1. Locate the voltage divider DIP switches on the voltage divider board.
The figure below shows the default setting (50:1) with the number 4 switch up.
2. Set the DIP switches to one of the following settings.
Secure the front panel to the power supply
1. Carefully place the power supply onto the fan side.
2. Carefully push the bottom of the front panel onto the bottom of the power supply. Be sure not to pinch any wires
between the front panel and the heat sink on the power supply.
3. Secure the front panel to the bottom of the power supply with the two screws.
4. Position the power supply upright.
5. Replace the metal strap on top of the power supply by pushing the strap straight down. The four pins in the strap
snap into the front and rear panels.
