Introduction
Whenusedwithacompatibletransmitter,theIntelixAVO‐USB‐Hextendertransmitslow
andfullspeedUSBsignalsovertwistedpaircabling.TheunitextendslowspeedUSB1.0
and2.0signalsupto330feet,andfullspeedUSB1.0and2.0signalsupto100feet.
Convenientconnectordonglesallowdirectconnectiontothehostandclientdevices,
facilitatingaclean,low‐profileinstallation.
TheIntelixAVO‐USBisplug‐and‐playanddoesnotrequiredriversoftware.
Pre‐Installation
TheAVO‐USBfeaturesshieldedRJ45connectors,whichareprovidedasanoptionin
harshelectricalenvironments,suchasinstallationswithlargemotorsorcablerunsnear
sourcesofinterference.Insuchenvironments,shieldedtwistedpaircable(STP)may
provideadditionalnoiseimmunity.WhenusingSTP,ensuretheshieldonbothendsofthe
cablerunisterminatedtoashieldedRJ45connector.
Caution: Do not attempt to disassemble or alter the extender housing.
There are no user-serviceable parts inside the unit. Doing so will void your
warranty.

Installation
1. Poweroffthesourceanddestinationdeviceswhichwillbeconnectedtothe
extenders.
2. VerifythemodularoutletsandcrossconnectstowhichyouwillconnecttheAVO‐USB
areconfiguredproperlyandlabeledappropriatelytoidentifythecircuit.
3. VerifythedesiredtwistedpairsarenotbeingusedforotherLANortelephone
equipment.
4. ConnecttheAVO‐USB‐HtotheUSBportofthehostdevice,typicallyacomputer.
5. Connectoneendofthetwistedpaircabletothesendextender.TheRJ45pinoutin
thetwistedpaircablingshouldconformtotheEIA/TIA568Aor568Bstandard.
6. Connectacompatibletransmittertotheclientdevice,typicallyakeyboardormouse.
7. Connecttheotherendofthetwistedpaircabletothereceiveextender.TheRJ45
pinoutinthetwistedpaircablingshouldconformtotheEIA/TIA568Aor568B
standard.
8. Poweronthesourceanddestinationequipment.
Caution: Do not connect the extender to a telecommunication outlet wired
to unrelated equipment. Doing so may damage the unit or any connected
equipment. Ensure all connected twisted pair cabling is straight-through
(point-to-point).
Caution: To minimize the possibility of equipment damage from
electrostatic discharge (ESD), all source and destination equipment must
be powered off during installation. This includes signal extenders, splitters,

Note: For your convenience, it is recommended that you uniquely mark
the ends of the twisted pair cable before pulling them through a wall or

Troubleshooting
IfyourequipmentmalfunctionswiththeAVO‐USBextendersinplace,followthe
troubleshootingproceduresbelow:
1. Performdiagnosticsonyourequipmentbyfollowingthemanufacturer’s
instructions.
2. Ifconnectingtoacomputer,shutdownandrestartthecomputerafterconnecting
thesourceanddestinationdevicesthroughtheAVO‐USB.
3. Ifconnectingtoacomputer,verifytheconnectingequipment’sdrivershavebeen
properlyinstalled.Verifybyconnectingtheequipmentdirectlytothecomputer
withouttheAVO‐USBinline.
4. Checkallconnectionsandthestructuredcablingsystem.VerifytheRJ45crimp
patternconformstoeitherEIA/TIA568Aor568Bstandards.
5. Checkthepinconfigurationonthestructuredcable.
6. Verifyyourtransmissionratedoesnotexceed12Mbps.
7. ThemaximumoperationaldistancesoverwhichtheAVO‐USBcanbetransmitted
isdependentontheequipmentandcabling.Ensurethatthemaximum
recommendedoperationaldistanceshavenotbeenexceeded.
8. Checkthanonlytwistedpairpatchcordsarebeingused.
9. ReplacetheAVO‐USBwithanotherAVO‐USBsetthatisknowntobeworking.
10. Iftheabovestepsfail,pleasecontactIntelixforsupport.
