2. Product Guide
IR16DE
Ideal for use by bot t ermograp ers and maintenance engineers. T e ig quality images may be
captured and manipulated in t e camera allowing problems to be resolved on t e spot. Images can also
be downloaded to a PC for analysis and reporting.
IR16DS
T e IR16DS as all t e features and functions of t e IR16DE wit t e additional capabilities of:-
•Multiple viewing options, wit fused images.
•User selectable temperature range allowing measurements up to 500°C.
•Alarms.
•Sequence recording.
IR16DB
T e IR16DB offers a better sensitivity making it especially suitable for building applications. T e
temperature range of -20°C to 125°C also makes it suitable for a variety of general purpose and
maintenance applications.
IR16DH
T e IR16DH combines t e temperature range of t e standard IR16DS wit an extended range up to
900
o
C, allowing users to monitor plant and equipment operating at ig er temperatures.

4. Getting started.
4.1. Switching the camera on/off
After switc ing on, it will take up to 30 seconds for t e infrared image to appear. T e image
will periodically freeze for one or two seconds w ile t e camera re-calibrates itself. T is is
normal operation, and t e time between t ese calibrations will increase as t e operating
temperature of t e camera stabilizes.
4.2. Charging the battery
Note: When the camera is connected to a PC via the USB cable it switches off and
the PC sees the SD card as an external memory
.
4.3. Changing the battery
Open t e lock on t e battery cover and remove t e cover.

4.4. Focussing
Focus bar Out of focus Focused
W en focusing a focus bar appears on t e screen to assist in focusing t e image. It
indicates t e approximate distance in metres (in feet w en °F is selected) of a focussed
target from t e camera.
4.5. Saving an image
To save a live or frozen image, press t e Save button once. If Caption Mode or Voice
Annotation as been turned on, a text caption or voice annotation can be attac ed to t e
image (see section 7).
4.6. Temperature measurement
One of t e key functions of a t ermal imager is obtaining temperature information about t e
scene. T e IR16 as a variety of measurement options to provide maximum flexibility.
The display of temperature values and related items depends on the combination of the
measurement and display options selected. Temperature readings are displayed at the top of
the display. In the default mode, a single reading in
°
C indicates the temperature at the centre
point of the cursor. The other reading at the top of the display is the reflected temperature
setting (see section 6.1.). The temperature range within the scene is indicated by a scale on
the right hand side of the display.

5. Hotkey buttons.
Pressing any of t e otkey buttons reveals t e icons w ic indicate t e functions of t ese
buttons. A box around t e icon for Hotkey1 or Hotkey2 indicates t at t is option is selected
and t is defines t e operation of t e navigation and toggle buttons. Wit t e default settings,
t e key functions are as follows:
Hotkey 1 toggles between Align Image and Cursor.
Hotkey 2 cycles t roug Visible on/off, Auto/Manual, and Lig t on/off.
Hotkey 3 toggles between Live and Freeze.
Hotkey 4 opens t e menu.
See appendix A2 for a full list of Hotkey button functions.
5.1 Moving the cursor
5.1.1. Press Hotkey 1 to toggle to t e Cursor icon . T e emissivity
value will be displayed at t e top of t e screen.
5.1.2. Use t e left/rig t and up/down navigation buttons to move t e cursor to t e
desired position.

5.2. Image alignment
As t e visible and t ermal cameras are not co-axial t e visible and t ermal image may need to
be aligned. T is is usually required w en moving to view objects at different distances.
5.2.1. Press Hotkey 1 to toggle to t e alignment icon .
5.2.2. Use t e up/down and left/rig t navigation buttons to align t e t ermal and
visible images.
Note The visible image is moved d ring alignment.

Four pre-programmed alignment distances are included. T ese are at 0.5m, 1m, 2m and
4m ranges. Wit t e alignment option selected by Hotkey1, pressing t e toggle button
once aligns at 2 metres. Pressing t e toggle button repeatedly cycles t roug to 4m, 0.5m,
1m, and 2m.

5.4. Thermal and visible image blending
T e Irisys IR16 Series T ermal Imaging Cameras feature bot a visual and t ermal imager,
and ave t e option to display t e images in a variety of ways:-
•Blended.- T e camera can s ow a t ermal image, a visible image of t e scene, or a
mixed blend of bot .
Note blended is not available in the I 16DE.
•PiP - a t ermal picture in t e visible picture (PiP) t e t ermal image can also be
blended into t e visible.
•T ermal above/below. - as t e function of displaying T ermal bleed t roug on a
visual image, based on t e temperature range of t e scene.
