While the battery is charged, used and stored, keep it away from object materials with static electric

chargers.

1.3.2 Safety Handling Procedure for the Transporter

Quarantine

Packages that are crushed, punctured or torn open to reveal contents should not be transported. Such

packages should be isolated until the shipper has been consulted, provided instructions and, if

appropriate, arranged to have the product inspected and repacked.

Spilled Product

In the event that damage to packaging results in the release of cells or batteries, the spilled products

should be promptly collected and segregated and the shipper should be contacted for instructions.

Chapter 2 Introduction

In order to validate electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and conduct operational electrostatic

discharge (ESD) tests for MOST devices, it is necessary to isolate the device under test (DUT) from

other nodes within the MOST network (see Figure 2.1). Isolation involves eliminating the influence of

the other nodes as well as external environmental factors from the DUT. In the case of EMC testing,

environmental isolation is achieved through the use of an anechoic chamber, which is a shielded room

that is designed to attenuate environmental noise sources. For operational ESD testing, the transient

voltages induced on the electrical cPHY network need to be confined to the DUT. This is accomplished

by electrically isolating the DUT’s electrical cPHY network from the other MOST devices.

K2L developed an easy to use product that fulfills all the requirements mentioned above: the MOST150

E-O Converter Kit. It assists in isolating the DUT during a functional network test by converting a

MOST network (data rate: 150 Mbit/s, electrical cPHY layer) into an optical physical layer network

interface. Figure 2.2 shows how this is achieved by using two MOST150 E-O Converter devices. One

MOST150 E-O Converter is connected electrically to the MOST network devices outside of the test

environment (this MOST150 E-O Converter is connected to a power supply and automatically charges

the rechargeable batteries that are assembled inside) while the other MOST150 E-O Converter is

connected electrically to the MOST network (data rate: 150 Mbit/s, electrical cPHY layer) DUT inside

of the test environment (this one operates with batteries inside the chamber). The network is completed

when an optical connection is made between the two MOST150 E-O Converters.

Figure 2.1 MOST Network Implementation

MOST150 E-O Converter

K2L - USER’S GUIDE

Note: Ideally both devices can be exchanged after a measurement, meaning that the box outside the

chamber charges its batteries during operation.

The major features of the MOST150 E-O Converter include:

Conversion between MOST electrical cPHY network signals and optical physical layer network

signals

Minimal influence on MOST electrical cPHY network messages

Protection of stimulus equipment from harsh test environments

Optical interface operable at lengths up to 40 m

Aluminum enclosure with battery power supply to reduce emissions and improve immunity

On-board battery charger circuit

Simultaneous battery charging and powering of the device

Low battery indicator
