WARRANTY
Please read
these instruc-
tions before
installing and
starting to use
an M-Bus system.
Kamstrup’s
guarantee
obligations do
not apply in case
of incorrect
installation.
Initialization is
always necessary
in connection
with start-up
or after service
in the M-Bus
network.
As a complete
test after
installation,
we recommend
you to read all
M-Bus Slaves
and thoroughly
check that all
M-Bus Slaves
have replied,
see paragraph 6.
1. Mounting of M-Bus Master
By means of the enclosed angle/wall
bracket you can mount the M-Bus Master
on e.g. a wall. Use the bracket as a tem-
plate to mark the position and drill two
6 mm holes. Screws and rawlplugs are
supplied together with the M-Bus Master.
2. Power supply
The M-Bus Master is to be connected to
230 VAC. The unit has protection class II.
The connection is established by means
of a 2-wire cable through the cable bush.
Furthermore, we refer to national installa-
tion regulations.
3. Electrical connection
Dismount the top part of the M-Bus
Master by unscrewing the two screws at
the sides. Lift off the top part carefully.
Electrical connection as shown in the
drawing:
230 VAC
Terminals 27 and 28
Bus supply
Terminals 60(+) and 61(-)
M-Bus
Terminals 24 and 25, 2 parallel sets,
independent of polarity
RS232
Terminals 62 - Brown - Data
63 - White - REQ
64 - Green - GND
4. Functional control
Having finished mounting and electrical
connection check the power supply on
terminals 60(+) and 61(-), it should be
approx. 60 VDC. Mount the top part
and check that the light emitting diode
marked POWER is constantly lighted.
The light emitting diode marked
OVERLOAD will be lighted for approx.
5 sec. The voltage measured on terminals
24 and 25 should be approx. 30 VDC.

It is most easily measured from a M-Bus
Slave mounted in a MULTICAL®bracket
as the top part of the M-Bus Master must
be mounted.
When reading via a PC the light emitting
diode marked REQUEST will be lighted
briefly, when you request data and the
light emitting diode marked DATA will
be lighted when a M-Bus Slave replies.
The M-Bus Master with display shows:
Initialization of the M-Bus network takes
approx. 3 minutes, depending on the
number of M-Bus Slaves. The LED marked
REQUEST blinks constantly and when a
M-Bus Slave answers, the LED marked
DATA blinks.
After initialization three dots appear:
Press the left button once, an address
appears, press the right button once,
address + DAT appears, after 10 to 40
seconds data is shown. The system is
in order.
5. Installation of M-Bus system
M-Bus Master and M-Bus Slaves
are connected on a 2-wire bus. All
M-Bus Slaves must be connected in
parallel on the bus.
Supply of M-Bus Slaves and communi-
cation take place through the same two
conductors. As the M-Bus Master has
two parallel sets of terminals (24–25),
two physical sequences can be emitted
from the M-Bus Master. Two sets of wires
can be mounted in the M-Bus Slave’s
terminals, bus in/ bus out. It is thereby
possible to make a loop in MULTICAL®’s
bracket.
The recommended conductor cross-
section is 0.5 mm2or 0.8 mm2. Subject
to an even distribution of M-Bus Slaves
in the network, the max. cable length at
0.5 mm2is approx. 1000 m, and at 0.8
mm2approx. 1800 m. The voltage mea-
sured at the remotest M-Bus Slave must
not be lower than 12 VDC when the M-Bus
Slave sends data to the M-Bus Master.
A screened cable is not required. We
recommend that the M-Bus cable is drawn
at a fair distance from power cables.

6. Operation and reading
of M-Bus Master
The M-Bus system can be read either via
a computer with the program PcM-Bus for
Windows 98/2000/XP, or direct from the
display of M-Bus Master.
When reading the M-Bus Master,
the IR head must be placed as shown:
For reading via PC either IR head, or a data
cable connected from the M-Bus Master’s
bracket to a COM port of the PC is used.
See the instructions for the reading
program.
Note:

Initialization
Reading of data
Three dots in the top left corner show that
the unit is in order.
Press both buttons for 3–10 seconds and
the display shows “ini”. The M-Bus Master
now remembers all addresses that have
answered.
We recommend
you to keep a list
on the relation
between M-Bus
addresses and
consumers by
the M-Bus Master.
The decimal
point position
is determined
by the energy
meter’s coding.
Find adresses:
Activating the left button all stored
addresses can be read, one by one.
Collect data
Having located the required address,
collect data by activating the right button.
Reponse time, 10–40 sec.

7. M-Bus Slave
The M-Bus Slave is mounted in the
MULTICAL®energy meter.
M-Bus cables to be connected to
terminals 24 and 25, two sets can
be connected.
The M-Bus Slave comes either with
2 pulse inputs or 2 pulse outputs.
Pulse inputs to be connected
to terminals 65-66 (input A) or
67-68 (input B).
Pulse outputs to be connected to
terminals 16-17 (CE) and 18-19 (CV).
