1 Getting Started

Congr tul tions on your purch se of qu lity M trix Switch Corpor tion product. This section cont ins

gener l overview of device function lity nd provides inform tion to get you up nd running quickly.

1.1 Device Connections

The MSC-FS44FBL comes with power supply d pter, redund nt power supply nd document tion CD.

•Power supply adapter – A 7.5 VDC 2 Amp power supply d pter is provided which is connected to the

5.5mm OD 2.1mm ID twist locking co xi l connector on the device nd plugged into 100-240V

50/60Hz AC power source.

•edundant power supply (Optional) – The ddition l redund nt power supply c n be connected vi

the second power supply connector, to provide n ddition l power source in the event th t one of the

supplies f ils or is disconnected from the power source.

•Ethernet connector (Optional) – Connect to network switch with n Ethernet c ble. Required for

ccessing the web p ge interf ce, TCP/IP M scot interf ce or for interf cing with remote control p nels.

This device c n lso be connected directly to computer or remote p nel (supports uto MDI-X

llowing crossover or str ight through Ethernet c ble to be used).

•SDI BNC Video Outputs – Connect SDI destin tions to output connectors using 75 Ohm Co x c ble

with BNC connectors designed for high speed SDI video pplic tions. Unused outputs c n be left

unconnected. Outputs utilize st nd rd SMPTE levels of 800mV pe k-to-pe k.

•SDI SFP Video Inputs – SFP inputs provide the me ns to utilize industry st nd rd MSA SFP modules

for flexibility down to single input. We offer fiber optic nd HDMI input SFP modules nd m ny 3rd

p rty modules m y lso be used. See SFP Modules for more det ils.

•Sync eference (Optional) – If switching on vertic l sync pulse is desired, connect one of the Sync

Reference connectors to sync pulse sign l (NTSC, PAL or tri-level) using 75 Ohm Co x with BNC

connectors nd the other Sync Reference connector c n be used s p ss-through to ddition l properly

75 Ohm termin ted equipment or 75 Ohm termin tor should be inst lled. If the sync reference

function lity is not used, both connectors c n be left unconnected.

•S-232 Serial (Optional) – If seri l control is desired, using the M scot P rotocol , connect D9 fem le

to m le str ight through c ble to control system, such s computer. Use 115200 bps 8N1 s the seri l

configur tion nd en ble loc l echo to see typed ch r cters. See Seri l Interf ce Pinout for ddition l

det ils.

•S-485 Serial (Optional) – An RS-485 port is lso v il ble utilizing pins on the s me D9 connector s

the RS-232 interf ce. This port is configured s M scot P rotocol control interf ce by def ult, but c n

lso be used to control other routers s ddition l m trix levels. See Seri l Interf ce Pinout for

ddition l det ils.

1.1.1 SFP Modu es

M trix Switch Corpor tion offers sever l SFP modules for fiber optic nd HDMI sign ling (see T ble 2) nd

m ny 3rd p rty MSA comp tible modules c n be used s well.

NOTE: MSA tr nsceiver (tr nsmit nd receive) modules m y be used with the MSC-FS44FBL but only the

MSC-FS44FBL Product Manual

tr nsmit or receive side will be used (depending on the I/O direction of the slot it is inserted into). To rem in

cost effective, it is thus recommended th t tr nsmit only or receive only SFP modules re used when pl nning

system I/O.

1.2 Powering Up The Device

This device is not equipped with power switch nd is simply connected to the power supply d pter which is

plugged into suit ble AC power source, to power it up.

Once the device is powered it goes through the following st rtup sequence:

•Reset switch is checked nd if it is pressed then the Softw re f ils fe recovery procedure is entered.

•Routing m trix is initi lized to Preset 0 st te (def ults to source 1 connected to ll destin tions).

•The button control p nel is initi lized nd buttons re illumin ted to show the initi l routing st tus.

1.3 Front Pane Button Interface

The MSC-FS44FBL is equipped with 4x4 button p nel which provides one of sever l options for controlling

nd viewing the st tus of the routing m trix.

This p nel interf ce provides sep r te input nd output buttons. One output button is ctive t time, indic ted

by it being lit. The current connection st tus for the ctive output is indic ted by the relev nt numbered input

button being lit. Pressing n input button will c use th t input to be connected to the current ctive output.

1.4 Web Page Interface

All M trix Switch Corpor tion router nd p nel devices come with built-in web p ge interf ce.

This is the recommended interf ce for configur tion nd is lso convenient w y to control the m trix routing

of the device.

Devices come f ctory configured with def ult settings, unless pre-configur tion request is m de during

purch se, n ex mple being multi device pplic tion.

1.4.1 Accessing The Web Page Interface

The def ult network IP ddress for this device is 192.168.2.60. Refer to the t ble below for the def ult IP

ddresses for other types of M trix Switch Corpor tion devices.

To ccess the web p ge interf ce of the device:

1. Connect the Ethernet port of computer either directly to the device using str ight through or

crossover c ble to the s me Ethernet network through network switch or other LAN infr structure.

2. M nu lly configure the computer's IP ddress to be unique ddress on the s me IP subnet s the

device. For ex mple 192.168.2.10. The Netm sk should be 255.255.255.0. A G tew y ddress is not

necess ry for this purpose, but could be set to 192.168.2.1.

3. M ke sure the device is powered on.

4. Using web browser on the computer, enter the device's IP ddress into the Loc tion b r nd press

ENTER. The device web p ge interf ce should lo d. If the web p ge interf ce f ils to lo d, double

check the computer's network settings nd physic l Ethernet connections. In the event th t the IP

ddress of the device is unknown, refer to the Unknown IP Address troubleshooting section.

1.4.2 Network Settings

Network settings c n be ch nged on the Config t b of the Web P ge Interf ce. This includes DHCP en ble, IP

ddress, Netm sk nd G tew y settings. DHCP should only be used for ssigning specific network settings

from centr l DHCP server or when ssigned IP ddresses c n be determined, otherwise configuring the device

vi its IP ddress would be prevented if the IP ddress is unknown. After ch nging network settings, click the

S ve button nd then click the Reboot button to rest rt the device. Refer to the Config T b - Network Settings

section for more det ils.

In the event th t the device's IP ddress is unknown, refer to the Unknown IP Address troubleshooting section.

Refer to the Network Pl nning section for ssist nce with developing network pl n for multi-device

pplic tions.

1.4.3 Matrix Routing

The Routing t b of the Web P ge Interf ce provides convenient w y to view nd ch nge the m trix routing

st te nd is the def ult p ge shown.

A preset c n lso be rec lled from this interf ce, by selecting one from the Lo d Preset drop down control.

Refer to the Routing T b section for more det ils.

1.4.4 Labe s

L bels c n be ssigned to video ( nd udio if pplic ble) sources nd destin tions. L bels c n lso be ssigned

to presets. L bels c n be up to 8 ch r cters in length. The def ult source l bels use “Src” s prefix, nd the

destin tion l bels use “Dest” s prefix (ex mple: Src1). The presets re l beled “St rtup” for Preset 0 nd

“PresetN”, where N is number from 1 to 9, for the rem ining presets.

The L bels T b on the Web P ge Interf ce c n be used for modifying l bels. Click the S ve button to store ny

ch nges th t re m de. Refer the L bels T b section for more det ils.

1.4.5 Presets

There re 10 stored m trix routing presets. Preset 0 is rec lled on power up nd by def ult routes source 1 to ll

destin tions. All other presets def ult to “No Ch nge” for ll destin tions, which when rec lled will h ve no

effect. Presets c n ssign p rti l subset of destin tions or ll destin tions s desired.

Presets c n be modified on the Presets T b of the Web P ge Interf ce. Refer to the Presets T b section for more

det ils.

1.4.6 Pane Remote Router IP Address

Remote p nels control M trix Switch Corpor tion video/ udio routers with the TCP/IP protocol vi the Ethernet

port.

NOTE: The button p nel interf ce of router device m y lso be used to remotely control different router. In

th t c se the Control Mode selection setting is used to determine the mode of the p nel interf ce.

The emote outer IP setting on the Config T b of the Web P ge Interf ce defines the IP ddress of the

remote router which the p nel interf ce will control. This def ults to 192.168.2.60 on remote p nels, which is
