Modellbau Joost Tracer Istruzioni per l’uso

Construction manual
e Tracer is a top aerobatic glider, which is excellent for training all kind of aerobatic maneuvers. And all
without risk, because if it is crashes you can just y on, without glueing!

· 2m 75µ laminating lm

General
EPP can be glued with many adhesives, e.g. UHU Por (very elastic), 5 min epoxy (high bond strength, very hard
not to be recommended,) or super glue (very light, brittle). We recommend PU glue, because this is very gap-l-
ling, which is important for sticking in the spars. For embedding RC components into the EPP, you transfer before
the contour with a pen on the EPP. Then you cut with a knife along the contour, about a millimeter more inwardly
oset. The notch should always be slightly narrower than the components so you need only few glue. The notches
can also be milled with a multitool mill. Power cables can be pushed into a slot which gets drawn with a sharp
knife.
To avoid a deforming, the wings have to be put into the negatives during the hardening of the glue. It is important
to make it up and down a strip of tape over the slot, as the glue may seep through the EPP, and then you would
not get the part from the negative. Thus, the polyurethane glue foams better it is recommended to be wetted with
water.
Before ironing of the laminating lm, it is recommended to sand EPP parts (eg 240 grit). This improves the surface
and the lm links better to the EPP. It is recommended to leave some laminating lm beyond the trailing edge and
cut it straight with a metal ruler and a sharp knife. We get a very sharp trailing edge, which signicantly contributes
to the good ying qualities.
First steps
First the milled parts get seperated from the arches and the magnets get glued into the wooden ribs.
Fuselage
The 6mm CFK tubes and the wooden ribs get glued into the
cutouts of the fuselage halves. During the hardening of the
glue, it is important that the pars lay on a straight panel. On
the inner side the cutouts for the receiver and the batterie
are maden. All components get placed as much forward
as possible, the avoid less additional weight for the CG.
The servos for the tail can be placed near the tail or in the
front of the fuselage. In the second case, the linkage can be
put into the CFK rods. At the end the halves can be glued
together and the lamination lm can be ironed.

Wings
The two remainig wooden ribs get glued on the inner
side of the wings. Afterwards the EPP rests get remo-
ved from the spar slot. The 8mm CFK tubes must be cut
to length, that they ush with the wingtip and remain
20mm longer on the inner rib. Then the 8mm tubes get
glued in.
The servos get placed in the middle of the wings, just
behind the spars. The wires get pressed into a cutted slot
in direction to the inner rib. Optional the wintips can be
rounded. If you want it, you draw a line with the desired
radius and cut away the EPP along this line. Next the
edge get sanded. Yet the laminating lm gets ironed on.
Finaly the control horns get glued into the ailerons and
the linkage between the servos and the horns can be
mounted.

Elevator
The 40x6mm CFK tube get slided onto the 4mm CFK rod. Drill a 4mm hole in of the control horns and slide it also
onto the rod besid the tube. Same with the two EPP elveator parts. The rod get cut in length so that it ushes with
the tips of the EPP parts. The control horn get glued onto the EPP part beside it. You have to pay attention that no
glue runs into the CFK tube, because it is the bearing for the fully ying elevator. When the glue is hardened, you
can iron on the laminating lm.
Note: The pictures show a normal elevator. The kit includes a fully ying elevator yet.

Rudder
First a square get cut of the rudder as shown on the picture below. Afterwards the CFK Rod get cut on length, so
that it ushes with the upper side and excess 40mm on the bottom and glued in. After the hardening the lamina-
nating lm get ironed on and the control horn glued in.
Assembly
At the tail of the fuselage is a hole for the elevator. There a slot from the top must be cut, the elevator pushed into
it and xed with some glue. When the glue is hard, a hole for the spar of the rudder gets drilled from the top. Then
the rudder gets glued onto the fuselage. Finaly the linkage between the servos and the tail get mounted.
Settings and rst ight
The center of gravity is 83-85mm behind the nose of the wings. The movement of the control surfaces can be set
up to +/- 60°. For the rst ights we suggest dualrate to +/-25°. These are only suggestions and can be varried to
the preferences of the pilot.
Have fun and great ights!
