1.3 Structure
This document contains general and safety information as well as a graphical instruction on
installing and commissioning (see page 97). Observe all information and carry out the actions
illustrated graphically in this document in the specified order.

1.4 Levels of warning messages
The following levels of warning messages may occur when handling the product.
DANGER
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury.
WARNING
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
CAUTION
Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury.
NOTICE
Indicates a situation which, if not avoided, can result in property damage.

2 Safety
2.1 Intended Use
With the innovative TS4 module technology, every PV module can now be flexibly equipped with
an additional function. The TS4 module technology offers integrated power electronics with various
functions. With the TS4-R-M, the entire PV system can be monitored at the module level. The TS4-R-S
switches off and monitors the PV system at module level. The TS4-R-O optimizes the performance of
a string in partial shading or different roof orientations.
In combination with the Gateway-2 and the CloudConnectAdvanced, the TS4-R-O can also switch
off and monitor the PV system at module level.
Use this product only in accordance with the information provided in the enclosed documentation
and with the locally applicable standards and directives. Any other application may cause
personal injury or property damage.
Alterations to the product, e.g. changes or modifications, are only permitted with the express written
permission of SMA Solar Technology AG. Unauthorized alterations will void guarantee and
warranty claims and in most cases terminate the operating license. SMA Solar Technology AG
shall not be held liable for any damage caused by such changes.
Any use of the product other than that described in the Intended Use section does not qualify as the
intended use.
The enclosed documentation is an integral part of this product. Keep the documentation in a
convenient place for future reference and observe all instructions contained therein.
All components must remain within their permitted operating ranges and their installation
requirements at all times.
2.2 Safety Information
This section contains safety information that must be observed at all times when working on or with
the product.
To prevent personal injury and property damage and to ensure long-term operation of the product,
read this section carefully and observe all safety information at all times.
DANGER
Danger to life due to high voltages of the PV array
When exposed to light, the PV array generates dangerous DC voltage, which is present in the
DC conductors and the live components of the inverter. Touching the DC conductors or the live
components can lead to lethal electric shocks.
• Disconnect the product from voltage sources and make sure it cannot be reconnected
before working on the device.

CAUTION
Increased electromagnetic radiation through the antenna
During operation, the antenna produces an electromagnetic field and can interfere with other
devices (e.g., pacemakers) due to electromagnetic interference.
• Persons must not remain closer than 20 cm to the antenna for long periods of time.
NOTICE
Damage due to incorrect connection procedure
The TS4-R-Duo can be damaged and its functionality impaired if the strings are connected before
the PV junction box.
• Connect the PV junctions box before the strings.
Electrical installation
All electrical installations must be carried out according to the electrical requirements
applicable on site.
• All work must be carried out in such a way that it complies with the technical standards
for electrical devices and the regulations for electrical installation.
• All work must comply with the regulations on occupational safety and hygiene.

2 Sicherheit
2.1 Bestimmungsgemäße Verwendung
Mit der innovativen TS4 Modultechnik lässt sich jedes einzelne Solarmodul flexibel mit einer
Zusatzfunktion ausstatten. Die TS4 Modultechnik bietet integrierte Leistungselektronik mit
unterschiedlichen Funktionalitäten. Mit dem TS4-R-M lässt sich die gesamte PV-Anlage auf
Modulebene überwachen. Der TS4-R-S ermöglicht das Abschalten der PV-Anlage auf Modulebene
und übernimmt die Überwachung der Anlage auf Modulebene. Der TS4-R-O optimiert die Leistung
eines Strings bei Teilverschattung oder unterschiedlichen Dachausrichtungen.
Der TS4-R-O kann in Kombination mit dem Gateway-2 und dem Cloud Connect Advanced auch
das Abschalten der PV-Anlage auf Modulebene und die Überwachung der Anlage auf
Modulebene übernehmen.
Setzen Sie das Produkt ausschließlich nach den Angaben der beigefügten Dokumentationen und
gemäß der vor Ort gültigen Normen und Richtlinien ein. Ein anderer Einsatz kann zu Personen-
oder Sachschäden führen.
Eingriffe in das Produkt, z. B. Veränderungen und Umbauten, sind nur mit ausdrücklicher
schriftlicher Genehmigung von SMA Solar Technology AG gestattet. Nicht autorisierte Eingriffe
führen zum Wegfall der Garantie- und Gewährleistungsansprüche sowie in der Regel zum
Erlöschen der Betriebserlaubnis. Die Haftung von SMA Solar Technology AG für Schäden aufgrund
solcher Eingriffe ist ausgeschlossen.
Jede andere Verwendung des Produkts als in der bestimmungsgemäßen Verwendung beschrieben
gilt als nicht bestimmungsgemäß.
Die beigefügten Dokumentationen sind Bestandteil des Produkts. Die Dokumentationen müssen
gelesen, beachtet und jederzeit zugänglich aufbewahrt werden.
Der erlaubte Betriebsbereich und die Installationsanforderungen aller Komponenten müssen
jederzeit eingehalten werden.
2.2 Sicherheitshinweise
Dieses Kapitel beinhaltet Sicherheitshinweise, die bei allen Arbeiten an und mit dem Produkt immer
beachtet werden müssen.
Um Personen- und Sachschäden zu vermeiden und einen dauerhaften Betrieb des Produkts zu
gewährleisten, lesen Sie dieses Kapitel aufmerksam und befolgen Sie zu jedem Zeitpunkt alle
Sicherheitshinweise.

GEFAHR
Lebensgefahr durch hohe Spannungen des PV-Generators
Der PV-Generator erzeugt bei Lichteinfall gefährliche Gleichspannung, die an den DC-Leitern und
spannungsführenden Bauteilen des Wechselrichters anliegt. Das Berühren der DC-Leiter oder der
spannungsführenden Bauteile kann lebensgefährliche Stromschläge verursachen.
• Vor Arbeiten das Produkt spannungsfrei schalten und gegen Wiedereinschalten sichern.
VORSICHT
Erhöhte elektromagnetische Strahlung durch die Antenne
Im Betrieb erzeugt die Antenne ein elektromagnetisches Feld und kann über Störaussendungen
andere Geräte stören (z.B. Herzschrittmacher).
• Personen dürfen sich nicht dauerhaft näher als 20cm zur Antenne aufhalten.
ACHTUNG
Beschädigung durch fehlerhafte Vorgehensweise beim Anschluss
Das TS4-R-Duo kann beschädigt und die Funktion beeinträchtigt werden, wenn zuerst die Strings
und nicht die PV-Anschlussdose angeschlossen wird.
• Zuerst die PV-Anschlussdose anschließen und erst danach die Strings anschließen.
Elektrische Installation
Alle elektrischen Installationen müssen gemäß den vor Ort geltenden elektrischen Vorschriften
durchgeführt werden.
• Alle Arbeiten so durchführen, dass sie den Angaben in diesem Dokument, den
technischen Standards für elektrische Geräte und den Vorschriften für elektrische
Installation entsprechen.
• Bei allen Arbeiten die Verordnung über Arbeitsschutz und Hygiene einhalten.
