ReplacementParts List. Itisessential that these critical parts

shouldbereplacedwithmanufacturer’sspecifiedparts toprevent

X-RADIATION, shock, fire, or otherhazards. Donotmodifythe

original design withoutpermission ofmanufacturer.

2. AnIsolation Transformershouldalwaysbeusedduring the

servicing ofCombination TV/DVDwhose chassisisnotisolated

from theACpowerline. Use atransformerofadequate power

rating as thisprotects thetechnicianfrom accidents resulting in

personal injuryfrom electrical shocks. Itwill alsoprotect

Combination TV/DVDfrom being damagedbyaccidental shorting

that mayoccur during servicing.

3. Whenservicing, observetheoriginal leaddress, especiallythe

leaddress inthehigh voltagecircuits. Ifashortcircuitisfound,

replace all parts whichhavebeenoverheatedor damagedbythe

shortcircuit.

4. Afterservicing, see toitthat all theprotectivedevices suchas

insulation barriers, insulation papers, shield, and isolation R-C

combinationsareproperlyinstalled.

5. Beforeturning thereceiveron, measuretheresistance betweenB

+lineand chassisground. Connect (-) sideofanohmmetertothe

prongson theplug.

2. For physicallyoperatedpowerswitches, turn poweron.

Otherwise skipstep2.

3. Measuretheresistance value, withanohmmeter, betweenthe

jumperedACplug and eachexposedmetalliccabinet parton the

receiver, suchas screwheads, connectors, etc. Whenthe

exposedmetallicparthas areturn pathtothechassis, the

reading shouldbebetween1M and 12 M . Whentheexposed

metal does nothaveareturn pathtothechassis, thereading

must beinfinity.

1.3. LEAKAGE CURRENTHOTCHECK

1. Plug theACcord directlyintotheACoutlet.

Donotuse aisolation transformerfor thischeck.

2. Connect a1.5k , 10 Wresistor, inparallel witha0.15 F

Itisimportanttouse anaccurate periodicallycalibratedhigh

voltagemeter.

1. Reduce thebrightness tominimum.

2. Set theSERVICE switchtoSERVICE .

3. MeasuretheHigh Voltage. Themeterreading shouldindicate 32.5

kV±2.0kV.

Ifthemeterindication isoutoftolerance, immediate service and

correction isrequiredtopreventthepossibilityofpremature

componentfailure.

4. TopreventanX-Radiation possibly, itisessential touse the

specifiedpicturetube.

2.1. HORIZONTALOSCILLATORDISABLE CIRCUITTEST

SERVICEWARNING:

The testmustbe made as a final check before setis returnedto the customer.

CONFIRMATION OF X-RAYMOVEMENT

1. Turn off TV set.

2. Connect thecircuitbelowbetweenTP553 and TP554 on theTV

MainC.B.A. Figure 2

3. Turn on SW1and thenturn on theset. Confirm that thepictureis

on thescreenproperly.

4. Confirm that thepicturegoes outofhorizontal syncwhilegetting

downbyvarying VR.

5. Ifthisdoes notoccur, itmeansthat X-rayprotect circuitisnot

operating. Furtherconfirmation and repairisrequired.

2.2. REPAIRPROCEDURES OFHORIZONTALOSCILLATOR

DISABLE CIRCUIT

1. Connect aDC voltmeterbetweencapacitor C513 (+) on theMain

circuitboard and chassisground.

2. Ifapproximately+21.5V isnotpresentat that pointwhen120 V

ACisapplied, find thecause. Check R503, R5505, C5507, C513

and D503.

3. Carefullycheck abovespecifiedparts and relatedcircuits and

parts. Whenthecircuitisrepaired, trythehorizontal oscillator

disablecircuittest again.

2.3. CIRCUITEXPLANATION

2.3.1. HORIZONTALOSCILLATORDISABLECIRCUIT

The positive DC voltage, suppliedfrom the D503 cathode formonitoring high voltage, is applied

to the IC5301 Pin11 through R503 and R5504. Undernormal conditions, the voltage atIC5301

Pin11 is less thanapprox. 3 V. Ifthe high voltage atFlyback TransformerPin5 exceeds the

specifiedvoltage, the positive DC voltage whichis suppliedfrom the D503 cathode also

increases. The increasedvoltage is appliedto IC5301 Pin11 through R503 and R5504. Due to

the increasedvoltage atIC5301 Pin11, the horizontal oscillatorfrequencyincreases, the picture

goes out of horizontal sync, the beamcurrent decreases and the picture become dark inorder

to keepX-radiation underspecification.

3. PREVENTIONOF ELECTROSTATICDISCHARGE

(ESD) TO ELECTROSTATICALLY SENSITIVE (ES)

DEVICES

Some semiconductor(solidstate)devices canbe damagedeasilybystatic electricity. Such

components commonlyare calledElectrostaticallySensitive (ES)Devices. Examples of typical

ES devices are integratedcircuits and some field-effecttransistors are semiconductor"chip"

components. The following techniques shouldbe usedto helpreduce the incidence of

component damage causedbyelectrostatic discharge (ESD).

1. Immediatelybeforehandling anysemiconductor componentor

semiconductor-equippedassembly, drainoff anyESDon your

bodytouching aknownearthground. Alternatively, obtainand

wearacommerciallyavailabledischarging ESDwrist strap, which

shouldberemovedfor potential shock reasonsprior toapplying

powertotheunitundertest.

2. Afterremoving anelectrical assemblyequippedwithES devices,

place theassemblyon aconductivesurface suchas aluminum

foil, topreventelectrostaticchargebuildup or exposureofthe

assembly.

3. Use onlyagrounded-tipsoldering iron tosolderor unsolderES

devices.

4. Use onlyananti-staticsolderremoval device. Somesolder

removal devices notclassifiedas "anti-static(ESDprotected)"

cangenerate electrical chargesufficienttodamageES devices.

5. Donotuse freon-propelledchemicals. These cangenerate

electrical charges sufficienttodamageES devices.

6. DonotremoveareplacementES device from its protective

packageuntil immediatelybeforeyou arereadytoinstall it. (Most

replacementES devices arepackagedwithleadselectrically

shortedtogetherbyconductivefoam, aluminum foil or

comparableconductivematerial).

7. Immediatelybeforeremoving theprotectivematerial from the

leadsofareplacementES device, touchtheprotectivematerial to

thechassisor circuitassemblyintowhichthedevice will be

installed.

CAUTION:

Besureno powerisappliedtothechassisor circuit, and observe

all othersafetyprecautions.

8. Minimizebodilymotionswhenhandling unpackagedreplacement

ES devices. (Otherwise harmless motion suchas thebrushing

togetherofyour clothes fabricor thelifting ofyour footfrom a

carpetedfloor cangenerate staticelectricity(ESD) sufficientto

damageanES device).
