Telephone connectionTelephone handset
Dear Customer,
With the help of this guide you can install your fax machine quickly and easily. After you have finished
the installation press the HELP/INSTALL key for 2 seconds. Your machine will then guide you
through the main settings as well as the adjustment to your telephone line.
To connect the handset, turn your machine
upside down. Connect the handset with the
spiral cable to the fax machine.
The socket for the telephone cable is on the
bottom of the fax machine. One plug of the
telephone cable has to be connected to your fax
machine, the other plug to the line socket on the
wall.
Insert the other end of the
spiral cable into the socket
identified with a handset
symbol.

cable are on the bottom
of the fax machine.
Connect one plug
to the line socket on the wall.
Connect the other plug of
the telephone cable to the
socket identified with LINE.
Connect the handset to the
spiral cable.
Additional devices Power supply
Time and date
1After you have connected the fax machine to the
power supply, it will prompt you to enter the
current time and date.
Use the dial pad to enter the correct time.
3Enter the correct day, month and year.
To conclude press OK.
You can connect additional devices (telephones,
cordless telephones, answering device, PC
modem) to your telephone line.

Loading paper
Insert the paper tray
in the slots provided
behind the paper
feed mechanism.
Stick the document
support insertion in
the openings
provided on the
paper feed flap.

Starting up
To finish the installation process you have to go
through some main settings (e.g. adaption of
your fax to the telephone line). Using EASY
INSTALL your fax machine will be configured
according to your local conditions.
1Press HELP/INSTALL for at least two
seconds. Your fax machine will print one page
with the header “EASY INSTALL“.
Your fax machine will then guide you on the
display through the first settings, such as your
telephone number and your name.
HELP pages
The different HELP pages are a sort of a “Quick
Reference Guide“, which describe the main
features of your fax machine.
1Press HELP/INSTALL.
Select the desired HELP page with </>.
3Confirm with OK. The page will be printed
out.
Making a call
1Dial the desired number.
Lift the handset.
You can also first lift the handset and then dial the
number.
Close the paper feed
flap.

Pull the paper feed
flap forwards until it
stops.
Insert a maximum of
50 sheets of A4
paper (210 x 297mm
80 g/m2).

Please note that inkfilm, which has limited capacity
of pages, has been installed in your machine. Be
advised that only Philips inkfilms should be used.
Your Philips guarantee does not cover damage to
your fax machine that may be caused by the use of
any other inkfilms.
Sending faxes
1Dial the number you require.
Hold your documents face up. The documents
must rest against the document guide. To
prevent several sheets being drawn into the
machine at once, please straighten the docu-
ments to the same height before inserting them
into the document feed slot. You can load up to
ten pages at once.
3If you want to improve the image quality,
press FINE/PHOTO. The display will show
the symbol Ffor PHOTO and the symbol
ffor FINE.
4Press START. Transmission now begins. In
case the connection is not successful your fax
machine will redial.
Copying
You can use your fax machine to make copies of
an original.
1Insert your documents face up into the
document feed slot (max. ten pages).
If you want to improve the image quality, press
FINE/PHOTO. The display will show the
symbol Ffor PHOTO and the symbol ffor
FINE.
3Press START.
4The document that has been pulled through will
come out on the top side of the fax machine.
To stop copying press STOP. The document and the
copy will be ejected.
Language of display
In this function you can select the language of
the display and printouts (e.g. HELP pages,
function list, etc. a.s.o).
1Press MENU, 11 and confirm with OK.
Select the desired language with </>and
confirm with OK.

You can store names and numbers into the
telephone book.
Storing numbers
1Press a for two seconds.
Enter a name using the dial pad. By pressing
>you can move the cursor one position to
the right. Press OK to confirm.
3Enter a telephone number and confirm with
OK.
Using the telephone book
1Press a.
Select with </>. The stored name or
telephone number appears on the display.
3Pick up the handset. In case you want to send
a fax message, press START.
