This booklet contains operational instructions for Polar Krush, Devil’s Ice
and Refresh machines. For the purpose of this booklet the machine
images throughout are that of the Polar Krush Classic Twin Machine,
however the usage instructions are applicable to all Refurbished and
Classic machines, which are operated in the same way.
Regular cleaning and maintenance of the machine is the responsibility
of the operating site. For hygiene purposes, we recommend that you
carry out your cleaning schedule and check your filter at least
fortnightly.

Setting up your Machine
3. You will need to ensure that there
is a clearance of 20cm at the back
and both sides of the machine. This
will ensure that the machine has
enough room for ventilation. If the
machine overheats, it won’t
function effectively.
4. Take the drip trays out of the clear
bowls, and position at the bottom of
the front panel. Make sure that the
clear overflow pipe is tucked into
the back of the tray.
5. Remove the taps from the bowls
and lubricate the shafts with
lubricant. Then simply push them into
place in the tap tubes until you hear a
click.
1. Position your machine where you will be using it. Your machine
will need to have a 240 volt electric power supply.

Preparing the Product
1. Pour the concentrate into a
clean product bottle and fill to the
top of the concentrate line.
2. Fill the bottle up to the neck
using the coldest water possible,
as the colder the water, the less
time it will take for your machine
to freeze down.
For best results, we recommend
that you chill your mixed product
overnight in a refrigerator.
3. Shake the bottle well and pour
the mixture into the machine. This
will give you slightly more than 5
litres of slush, as the mixture
expands slightly as it freezes.
Each bowl has the capacity for 12
litres and should be kept filled
between the minimum and
maximum levels indicated.
Your machine is now ready to start
freezing.
Freezing and Adjustment
The first time you start up your machine, it will freeze down
within two and a half hours. However when you freeze it down
each day afterwards, it will take less time.
Because these machines are refurbished, and the compressors
may have been replaced, there may be some variation in freezing
time between the two sides. This means that one side may freeze
relatively quickly, and the other side may take slightly longer. This
is quite normal, and does not mean that your machine is broken.
1. When your machine is first
switched on, it will need to chill
completely before it begins to
freeze. The liquid will remain
transparent while this is
happening.
2. When your slush is completely
chilled and ready to begin
freezing, small pieces of ice will
form on the evaporator, and you
will start to see these floating
around in the product.
3. The ice will slowly get thicker
and more dense, and the slush will
form.

If you try to serve your slush, and its consistency is either too
solid or too runny, you can alter its consistency by adjusting the
torque setting on the back of the machine.
By turning this screw, you will
see the peg move between the +
and –positions.
If you want to make the product
thicker, move the marker toward
the + sign, which will increase
the ice crystals in your product.
When adjusting the setting,
move it gradually, or your
machine may over freeze, leaving
your slush too solid, or not freeze
enough, leaving it too runny.
This can be done by using a flat
head screwdriver. You will find
the adjustment screw on the
back of the square plastic panel
that is holding the evaporator.
4. When you have slush that is
fairly thick but is still being turned
by the spiral, your slush is ready to
serve.

This machine works in the same way as above, but also has a chill
switch that allows the machine to remain chilled overnight. If you are
using this setting, turn off the freezer switches (2,5) and turn on the
chill switches (3,6). Reverse in the morning to freeze down.

The on/off switch (3) will light up when a power supply is available.
Switch the machine on, then switch both augers/spirals (1,4), and
both freeze buttons (2,5) on. You will notice that the freeze function
will not start for around 5 minutes after the augers are turning.
Please note that if the augers are switched off at any time, the freeze
function will cut out. This is to protect the machine –if freezing
continues and the ice forms a solid block, there is a risk of damage to
the machine when the auger is switched back on, as the ice will stop
the auger turning effectively.

2. The control switchboard for the Devil’s Ice machine is slightly
different and is shown below.

2. Remove upper mixing arm by
applying gentle pressure on the
front end of the stainless steel rod
to remove from plastic location on
the inside front of the bowl.
1. Use the taps to empty the
product from each of the two
bowls into a suitable clean
container.
Remove the clear lids from the
bowls.
3. Remove the taps by pressing the
tabs at both sides of the tap and
easing them out of the shaft, pulling
upwards at the same time.
4. Unscrew the two bowl retaining
nuts.
