high-quality product from SUNRISE MEDICAL.
This owner's manual will provide numerous tips and ide-
as so that your new hand bike can become a trustworthy
and reliable partner in your life.
Maintaining close ties to our customers means a lot to us
at Sunrise Medical. We like to keep you up-to-date about
new and current developments at our company. Keep-
ing close to our customers means: fast service, as little
red tape as possible, working alongside our customers.
When you need replacement parts or accessories, or if
you just have a question about your hand bike – we are
there for you.
We want you to be satisfied with our products and serv-
ice. At Sunrise Medical we are constantly working to
develop our products further. For this reason, changes
can occur in our palette of products with regard to form,
technology and equipment. Consequently, no claims can
be construed from the data or pictures contained in this
user’s manual.

Area of Application
The Shark RS / RT serves both as a physical training aid
as well as an aid to help you integrate/take part in daily
life.
The Shark RS / RT should enable the user to be able to
safely cover long stretches both ergonomically and in an
ecologically efcient manner.
The Shark RS /RT should be able to cope with tarmac
surfaces and rm paths with different topography.
You must not exceed a speed which has been adjusted
to meet safety requirements and take into account the
capabilities of the user.
It is imperative that you carry out product maintenance
and inspect the bike before every use
LIFETIME
The expected life of the hand bike is 5 years, provided
that:
It is used in strict accordance with the intended use. All
service and maintenance requirements are fulfilled.

The technology and construction of this hand bike have
been designed to provide maximum safety. International
safety standards currently in force have either been
fulfilled or exceeded in parts.
Nevertheless, users may put themselves at risk by
improperly using their hand bikes. For your own safety,
the following rules must be strictly observed.
Unprofessional or erroneous changes or adjustments
increase the risk of accident. As a hand bike user, you
are also part of the daily traffic on streets and pavements,
just like anyone else. We would like to remind you that
you are therefore also subject to any and all traffic laws.
Be careful during your first ride in this hand bike. Get to
know your bike.
Before each use, the following should be checked:
Fixed axles or quick-release axles on the rear •
wheels.
Velcro on seats and backrests•
Tyres, tyre pressure and wheel locks and main brake.•
Before each journey carry out a visual inspection of •
the frame, checking for cracks and other damage.
Before changing any of the adjustments of this
hand bike, it is important to read the
corresponding section of the Owner’s manual.
NEVER exceed the maximum load of 125 kg for driver
plus any items carried on the hand bike. If you exceed
the maximum load, this can lead to damage to the hand
bike, loss of control, or to serious injury to the user and
other people.
Exercise caution whenever you use the hand bike. •
For example, avoid travelling against an obstacle
without braking (step, kerb edge) or dropping down
gaps.
Your hand bike has not been designed for transporta-•
tion in a vehicle. DO NOT sit on the hand bike during
any transportation in a vehicle; always use a properly
secured vehicle seat!!
This hand bike should be used exclusively to convey •
one person at a time. Any other use does not comply
with the intended purpose.
The bike may only be used by one person with a •
maximum weight of up to 125 kg.
Use of the bike is only recommended for those who •
have the right physical and psychological constitution
to be able to cope with public trafc.
As a beginner, you should ride particularly carefully at •
the start.
Familiarise yourself with the general trafc laws! In •
order to achieve a stable ride when travelling straight
ahead, wherever possible, you should avoid hasty
steering movements when travelling at speed or go-
ing round corners.
When you are riding and braking, always hold the •
handles rmly with both hands, as otherwise, there is
a high risk of an accident through steering error.
The bike is a mechanical traction device. The speed •

the bike and the terrain.
At night and dawn/dusk, always use the lights. When •
you are travelling long distances, we recommend that
you take a spare battery with you.
Only ride on asphalt paths, or rm, smooth surfaces. •
When riding over curbs, steps as well as potholes,
there is an increased risk of tipping over.
Adjust your method of driving to your capabilities. •
Ride slowly and carefully, particularly when riding
round corners.
Do not put your hands in the chain area.•
Your bike should be serviced by your dealer at regu-•
lar intervals.
Be careful with fire, in particular with burning •
cigarettes. Seat and back slings can be set alight.
With all moving parts, there is always a risk that •
fingers could become trapped. Please always handle
carefully.
If the hand bike is subject to direct sunlight / low •
temperatures for long periods, parts of your hand
bike could become very hot (>41°C) or very cold
(<0°).
Always make sure that the quick tensioner on the •
rear wheels is set properly.
The hand bike should not be used in heavy rain, in •
snow or on slippery or damaged surfaces. In addi-
tion, you should avoid any dangerous areas.
Make sure that your tyres have sufficient tread!•
Please note that you are subject to any and all traffic •
laws when riding in public traffic.
Never use the leg support or the impact protection to •
lift the hand bike
Familiarise yourself with the braking distances from •
various speeds.
You should only use product combinations which •
have been approved by Sunrise Medical.
The hand bikes shown and described in this user guide
may not correspond in every detail exactly to your own
model. However, all instructions are completely relevant,
regardless of possible detail differences.
The manufacturer reserves the right to alter without
notice any weights, measurements or other technical
data shown in this manual. All figures, measurements
and capacities shown in this manual are approximate and
do not constitute specifications.

2.0 Warranty
Warranty
THIS DOES NOT AFFECT YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS IN
ANY WAY.
Warranty conditions
1) The repair or replacement is carried out by an author-
ised Sunrise Medical dealer/service agent.
-
2) To fulfil the guarantee conditions, should servicing
need to be carried out on your hand bike under this
agreement, contact the designated Sunrise Medical
customer service agent immediately, with precise details
on the type of difficulty. Should you be using the hand
bike outside the area covered by the designated Sunrise
Medical customer service agent, the work will be carried
out under “guarantee conditions” by another agency as
designated by the manufacturer.
3) Should any part of the hand bike require repair or
replacement, as a result of a specific manufacturing or
material defect, within 24 months (5 years on frame) from
the date on which the possession of the product was
transferred to the original purchaser, and subject to it
remaining within that ownership, the part or parts will be
repaired or replaced completely free of charge if returned
to the authorised service agent.
Note: This guarantee cannot be transferred.
4) The guarantee also covers all repaired or replaced
parts for the remaining period of the guarantee for the
hand bike.
5) For spare parts which are fitted after the start of the
original guarantee, we give a further 24-months guaran-
tee.

Before each journey, check the tyre pressure. If the •
air pressure is too low, there is an increased risk of
tipping over when going round corners, it can lead
to increased wear and tear and the rolling resistance
will be increased.
Avoid damage to the Bowden cables for the gearshift •
and braking units. There is a risk of kinking the cable
when you transfer to/from the bike and if you operate
the crank incorrectly.
Check that the footrests are secure.•
Check that all components, in particular all screws, •
are secure.
To avoid serious injury, you must secure your feet in •
the footrests, using the Velcro straps, before starting
your journey.
Always wear a safety helmet.•
You must always ride with a safety ag, as, due to •
the low height of the bike, you may be less visible to
other trafc.

items include amongst others upholstery, tyres, inner
tubes and similar parts.
7) The above warranty conditions apply to all product
parts for models purchased at full retail price.
8) Normally we do not accept responsibility if a repair or
replacement of the hand bike is required for one of the
following reasons:
a) The product or part has not been maintained or serv-
iced in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommenda-
tions as shown in the User Instructions and/or the Service
Instructions. Accessories have been used which are not
specified as original accessories.
b) The hand bike or part having been damaged by
neglect, accident or improper use.
c) Alterations to the hand bike or parts, which are not
in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications or
the carrying out of repairs before informing the customer
service agent.

3.0 Handling
Delivery
Your new Shark RS / RT is delivered fully assembled
in a cardboard box. In order to avoid any damage
during transportation, loose or
parts to be fitted, such as the rear wheels are
packed separately in the cardboard box.
Unpacking:
• Check the shipping cardboard box for external damage
which may have been caused during transportation.
• Remove all packaging material.
• Take all bike parts (including wheels) carefully out of the
box and check that they are complete.
• Check all parts for surface damage, scratches, cracks,
dents, distortions and other
defects.
• Should you find any damage, or if any parts are missing
please let us know immediately.
Transporting the Shark RS / RT:
To keep the Shark RS / RT as compact as possible,
the rear wheels are removed before delivery and packed
separately in the box.
The wheels are mounted to the rear axle by simply push-
ing them on or by screwing them on, depending on your
choice of axles.
CAUTION!
Before each use, you must check that the screw and
plug connections are secure!
4.0 Options
Brakes
The bike has two brakes which work independ-
ently from one another.
Parking brake (Fig. 4.1 + 4.2)
The parking brakes, mounted on the fork serve
as wheel locks. They can also be applied with
the aid of a locking lever. The locking lever must
be locked into place for these to work prop-
erly. The bike should not roll when the parking
brakes are applied. This is the only way to guar-
antee safe transfer to and from the bike.
Main brakes (Fig. 4.3)
The brakes allow you to safely and comfortably
brake your hand bike.
CAUTION
If the main brakes should fail, then the parking
brakes may be used once for emergency braking.
After that, the main brakes must be repaired.

CAUTION!
Braking power will decrease with:
Worn tyre tread, air pressure which is too
low, soiled and wet tyres.
But the ground surface can also play a sig-
nificant role in delaying the braking effect.
The braking effect will be significantly
reduced if the streets and paths are wet and
dirty, as well as on sandy or stony ground.
Dirty and wet rims and brake pads also
reduce the braking effect when using rim
brakes.
For this reason, you should always adapt
your method of riding to the environmental
conditions in order to avoid serious acci-
dents.
Always check the efficiency of the brakes
before starting your journey and ensure that
there is sufficient brake function. The brakes
should be checked regularly by your dealer
and adjusted if required.
Back pedal brake (Fig. 4.4 - 4.6)
The back pedal brake option allows you to
brake by pedalling backwards, when used in
combination with chain gearshift (Fig. 4.5). This
option is required particularly for users with
restricted or no finger function.
The braking system can only be uncoupled for
manoeuvring (Fig. 4.6).
When riding or moving forward, use the rocker
arm to put the system into an operational posi-
tion.
CAUTION!
Riding with the back pedalling brake deacti-
vated is not permitted and can lead to an in-
creased risk of accidents.

Footrest
Adjusting the footrest (Fig. 4.7 - 4.9)
The footrests can be adjusted to suit the leg
length
. The adjustment can be made after releasing
the screws (1). When you adjusting the length,
you must
make sure that the legs are slightly angled and
that they touch the bar at the front. With the
bike at a standstill, you should check that when

RT gearshift
Chain gearshift/hub gearshift (Fig. 4.10 -
4.11)
Gear shift is carried out using the Grip Shift
switch, which can be mounted either on the
frame, the fork or the handle.
Shifting the upper chain rings on the crank is
carried out using a lever which is mounted on
the crank housing.
The chain gearshift enables you to easily keep
moving, regardless of other road conditions.
A description of the gear change unit is
included as part of the delivery. If the gearshift
suddenly does not operate smoothly, please
contact your dealer!

This is carried out using the trigger switch on
the right handle or the Dual Control switch on
the right-hand side of the fork.

turning at the maximum angle, the increased
knee bend does not lead to contact with the
drive crank. There must be a gap of at least
5 cm between the heel and the floor. You will
need this leeway when travelling round corners.
When finished, make sure that
all screws have been properly tightened (see
the page on torque).
The footrest tubes for longer legs are always
delivered at the maximum length. The customer
can then shorten them to the required length.
After shortening the tube, you must always
ensure that the footrest tube is pushed into the
fork far enough so that both fixing screws touch
the footrest tube.
CAUTION!
Never use the leg support to lift the hand bike.
Before use, you must secure your feet into
the footrests.
If your feet accidentally come out
when you are riding, this can lead to serious
injuries.
