AG Compressors | Installaon Instrucons
In order to maintain the quality of a TECUMSEH compressor
and ensure its smooth operaon, the following is advised:
- Perform soldering with dry nitrogen and keep all naked
ames away from the electrical equipment.
- Insulate the sucon line as far as the compressor intake.
An-condensaon material must be used.
- Only use the uid for which the compressor has been
designed (see serial label).
- Do not add any addives or dyes to the refrigerant.
- Do not add oil unless the pipes are longer than 20 m; if this
is the case, use oil recommended by TECUMSEH.
- Ensure that any pressure relief connecons are directed in
such a way that they are not a danger to the user. Cut and
shape the tubes carefully in order to prevent the ingress
of dust and metallic parcles inside the system. Never
use a saw. Use a special bending tool which is adapted
to the tube diameter in order to avoid major restricons.
TECUMSEH recommends soldered connecons rather than
dudgeon-type screwed connecons to limit the probability
of leaks over me. Screwed connecons on a at surface
plane using a seal or gasket are acceptable.
■ 3.3. Tightening torques
- Sucon valve Ø1 3/8": 144 Nm to 156 Nm.
- Sucon valve Ø1 1/8": 85 Nm to 95 Nm.
- Angled ng to screw in to the sucon: 85 Nm to 95 Nm.
- Angled ng to screw in to the discharge: 85 Nm to 95 Nm.
■ 3.4. Suspension
All TECUMSEH compressors are supplied as standard with an
external suspension kit comprising vibraon absorbers and
sleeves.
These vibraon absorbers are designed to dampen the
transmission of the vibraons generated by the compressor
through the base on which the compressor is mounted.
In order to ensure this funcon is provided correctly, the
vibraon absorbers must never be restricted. For this purpose,
the washer resng on the spacer must allow for a play of 1 to
4 mm with the top of the vibraon absorber.
The following ghtening torques are recommended, so as not
to distort the spacer:
- 5 to 10 Nm for an M6 screw,
- 8 to 13 Nm for an M8 screw.
■ 3.5. Electrical connecons
To preserve the quality of the TECUMSEH compressor,
the safety of the installaon and to ensure correct operaon,
it is essenal to observe the following:
- Always wire the compressor once disconnected from the
mains voltage.
- Check the compability of the supply voltage for the
installaon with that of the compressor (see serial label).
- Check the compability of the wiring diagram of the
compressor with that of the installaon.
- Dimension the connecon cables (power, control) accord-
ing to the characteriscs of the installed compressor
(see serial label).
- Protect the electrical power supply line, which must include
a grounding cable.
- Perform the electrical connecons in accordance with the
regulaons in force in the respecve country.
- Like the protecon device, it is essenal to use only the
relay supplied with the compressor, even if another model
number appears to work at any given me.
- All TECUMSEH compressors are protected by an external or
internal protecon device, based on temperature/current.
As with any protecon device, it is normal that this device will
cut the power supply to the compressor if it funcons outside
of the normal operang ranges.

4 - COMMISSIONING
■ 4.1. Circuit leak-ghtness
Systemacally check all connecons for any leaks with an
electronic leak detector.
Refer to the TECUMSEH newsleer for any compressors
installed in parallel.
■ 4.2. Vacuum purging
Vacuum purge the installaon in order to achieve a residual
pressure of around 200 micrometers of mercury, guaranteeing
a good vacuum quality.
We advise vacuum purging the HP and LP circuits simulta-
neously. This allows the me spent on this operaon to be
reduced and ensures an idencal level of vacuum throughout
the circuit.
■ 4.3. Refrigerant charge
Charge the installaon using only the refrigerant for which the
compressor has been designed (see serial label).
The refrigerant is always loaded in the liquid phase, in order to
retain the correct mix rao.
Never start the compressor if the vacuum is not broken in HP
and LP.
The remaining charge will be made unl the nominal operang
condions of the installaon are achieved.
■ 4.4. Pre-start-up checks
- Never leave the charge cylinder connected to the installaon,
even with the valves shut,
- check the compability of the power supply voltage with
that of the compressor,
- check the calibraon of the electrical safety devices,
- check that the service valves are fully open,
- check that the crankcase heater operates correctly.
