INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLATION AND USE
Important Safety Information - Please Read Carefully
Caution: Always isolate from the mains electricity before installing orany maintenance
to the top up system.
• Powerto the Optical Auto Top Up system must be supplied through a Residual Current
Device (RCD) with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA.
• To ensure the top up system functions correctly,the Optical AutoTop Up sensor,the anti-si-
phon valve and the pump must be cleaned regularly to ensure they do not become clogged or
covered with debris or detritus.
• The Optical Auto Top Up sensor must always be installed in an upright position with the
powercable pointing upwards.Failure to do so will result in operating problems and water
overflowing from your sump oraquarium.
• PSU rating: 100-240 V, 50/60 Hz unless otherwise marked.
• Do not operate any appliance if it has a damaged cord orplug,ifit is malfunctioning,or ifit
has been dropped ordamaged in any way.
• This unit is designed to be used indoors and is not suitable forany outdoorapplications.
• Ensure the OpticalAuto Top Up system is safely positioned before operating.
• Always leave a drip-loop in the cables to prevent waterrunning down the cable and reaching
the powersource and controller (see below).

INTRODUCTION
In most aquarium systems the loss ofwaterfrom the aquarium is mainly due to factors
such as evaporation. Ifevaporated wateris not regularly replaced,problems can occurand
the waterquality of the aquarium may be compromised.The Optical Auto Top Up system
provides a simple and hassle-free solution to automatically top up any water lost from the
aquarium or sump through evaporation and to create an advanced professional set-up.
PARTS REQUIRED FOR INSTALLATION AND OPERATION
Residual current device (RCD) with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA.

GENERALINSTALLATION
The Optical Auto Top Up is designed for simple installation internally in the aquarium or sump.
1. Ensure there is adequate space in the aquarium or sump to allow the Optical AutoTop Up
sensor and mounting magnet to be correctly installed.
Please Note: The sensor must always be installed in a vertical,upright position with the
powerconnection cable at the top.Failure to do so will result in operating problems and
wateroverflowing from your sump orauqarium.
2. Insall the sensor at the desired waterdepth in your prefferd location in youraquarium or
sump,ensuring that it’s in a position where it will not be subject to excessive air bubbles or
viguros water movement.
3. Attach the sensorto the side of your aquarium or sump using the magnet mount.
Please note: The magnets are extremely strong and the force with which they attract each
other could cause serious injury if not handled correctly. Therefore please read and take
note ofthe following guidelines:
Caution: Neverplace yourfingers or any other body part between the two halves of the
magnet. Caution: Always slide magnets togetherand apart do not allow magnets to slam
togetheras this could damage the magnets,the aquarium glass,and/or cause the magnets
to chip or shatterwith a possible risk ofinjury to the user.
4. Install the top up pump in yourdesired location e.g.sump orfreshwatercontainer, ensuring
that it is fully submerged and secured.
5. Attach the flexible top up hosing securing clamp to the side of youraquarium or sump and
secure by tightening the thumb screw.
6. Carefully cut the flexible top up hosing to the correct length so that it can be successfully
threaded through the top ofthe flexible top up hosing securing clamp without any kinks or
sagging.

7. Ensure that all connections have been made correctly and securely Please Note: failure to do
so could result in operating problems and wateroverflowing from your sump or aquarium.
8.Connect PSU to mains and switch on.
Please Note: We strongly recommend that you regularly check the waterparameters ofyour
aquarium to ensure optimum water quality.
GENERALOPERATION
1. Determine yourideal waterlevel within your aquarium or sump.
2. Place the sensor in a suitable position in the aquarium orsump.
3. Ensure all connections are secure.
4. Check on a daily basis to ensure the sump orfreshwater containeris not running low on
waterand top up as required.
5. Maintain regularly forcontinued,reliable operation.
6. When carrying out aquarium maintenance oracclimating animals in the aquarium,unplug
the Optical Auto Top Up sensor to prevent any unwanted activation due to an altered
aquarium/sump water level.
7. On a weekly basis (or more often in set-ups with high detritus levels or a refugium) ensure
that the sensor and anti-siphon valve are clean and free from any algae/bacteria growth or
detritus build up.
Please Note: The largerthe surface area ofthe chamber oraquarium the OpticalAuto Top
Up system is installed in,a highervolume will be evaporated before the switch will be acti-
vated.Ideally place the Optical AutoTop Up system in the return pump chamberof a sump.
MAINTENANCE
Caution: To avoid possible electric shock,special care should be taken when using any
electrical appliance near water.
Caution: Always isolate the Optical AutoTop Up system from the mains electricity before
installing or carrying out any maintenance.
1. Check regularly to ensure that the Optical AutoTop Up sensor,anti-siphon valve and pump
are clean and free ofany dirt or detritus,salt and/orcalcium deposits.
Please note: We highly recommend that this is checked at least once a week.Failure to do
so could result in operating problems and wateroverflowing from your sump oraquarium.
2. Regularly check to ensure all connections are tightly secured.
3. Test Optical Auto Top Up sensor by physically moving it in the water to ensure switch is
operating correctly.

We do not recommend that you add anything (such as kh,calcium ormagnesium
supplements) to the ro chamberin youraquarium set up - other than re-mineralisers.
Precipitation ofelements may damage the OpticalAuto Top Up system pump.
TROUBLE SHOOTING
Problem: Pump not activating with low waterlevels
• Possible Cause: No power.
Solution: Check connections and ensure OpticalAuto Top Up sensor and pump are connected
to the correct DC jacks.
Solution: Ensure OpticalAuto Top Up sensor is clean and working.Re-install in correct
position,then turn off and on again.Test components for correct activation.Check pump for
damage or debris.
Problem: Pump constantly on
• Possible cause: Optical AutoTop Up sensor failure and orcontrol unit error.
Solution: Ensure parts are clean and working.Re-install in correct position,then turn off and
on again.Test components for correct activation.
Problem: Pump activating with high water levels
• Possible cause: Optical AutoTop Up sensor error.
Solution: Ensure parts are clean and working.Re-install in correct position,then turn off and
on again.Test components for correct activation.
