2. First Use
2.1. Batteries
•Using 4*5AA batteries
• Do not mix old and new batteries
• Batteries are to be inserted with the correct polarity
• When the device cannot be turned on, please replace new batteries
2.2. Reset to factory setting
Sometimes computers malfunction due to electrostatic discharge, other electrical

disturbances, or when batteries are inserted. If this happens, push a thin lever into
the RESET hole on the back of the computer and hold it down for about 5 seconds.
The computer will be restarted, clearing its memory and returning to normal
operation.
2.3. Warning
•The chess pieces supplied with this chess computer may be small enough to be
swallowed. Please keep the chess pieces out of the reach of small children,
• Not suitable for children under age 6 years.
3. Detailed Guide and FAQS
3.1. The board and pieces
Set up the starting position on the board. When you do so, please note: The white
pieces are at the front (near the function keys and display).
3.2. How to move chess pieces
Move the pieces from start to destination by touching or pressing the sensor board.
3.3. How to start a new game
If you want to start a new game, press the "New Game" key twice. In this way chess
will start a new game.
3.4. Why can't I turn off or start a new game
①. In-game: You cannot start a new game or turn off the device until the
opponent has finished moving.
②. If you close an unfinished game, the next time you turn on the M820, it will
resume the game before closing. If you need a new game, press the NEW GAME
key twice.
4. The Keys and Functions
• RESET
Reset switch, press and hold for 5 seconds to reset to factory setting.

•ON/OFF Power key
Switch on/switch off.
•CHALLENGE
Enter challenge mode.
• WHY?
In teaching mode: When you move in danger, the device will ask you "ARE YOU
SURE?", press the "WHY?" Key, the device will tell you why.
In-game: When your move is invalid or wrong, you can press the "WHY?" key, the
device will tell you the reason.
• WHERE?
In the game, when you don't know to move, press "WHERE?", then press the piece
once, the device will prompt you how to move the piece; press the piece again, the
device will prompt you the second move of the piece. Increasing in sequence.
•TEACHING
Press once: Enter teaching mode 1.
Press again: Enter teaching mode 2.
Press for the third time: Exit teaching mode.
•SOUND
Turn sound on or off.
•VOLUME
Adjust the volume of the sound.
•SET-UP POSITION
Set chess game / Row chess game / Set famous chess game.
•WHITE/BLACK
When setting the game, you can switch between black and white pieces.
•VERIFY POSITION
Confirm the position of the pieces.
When the pieces are shuffled or rearranged, and the position of the pieces cannot
be known, press VERIFY POSITION to confirm and find the location of the pieces.
The operation is as follows:

Press the VERIFY POSITION key, the screen displays ∪, and then press the square of
the chessboard, if it displays 0, it means there is no chess piece in this square; When
squares and numbers appear on the display, place the corresponding pieces
according to the squares and numbers.
* The transparent squares □in the upper left corner represent white pieces, and
the black squares ■represent black pieces;
The numbers on the far right represent: 1 is pawn, 2 is horse, 3 is elephant, 4 is rook,
5 is queen, and 6 is king.
•TAKE BACK
If you regret the move, you can move back by pressing the TAKE BACK.
•MOVE:
◇Set game levels: First press "LEVEL", then press "MOVE"(+10 levels each time).
◇During the game: After the Black moves, if you don't know how to move White
piece, press "MOVE" key to switch between Black and White. The device will tell you
how White goes.
◇During the game: During Black move, pressing "MOVE" key can urge Black to
move.
•LEVEL
Adjust game level: +1 for each press.
• NEW GAME
Press twice to restart a new game.
5. Playing with the M820 / Play Against the Computer
(1) Press the ON/OFF key to turn on the device. A transparent square is displayed
in the upper left corner of the screen, indicating that the white pawn moves first
(2) Press NEW GAME twice to start a new game.
(3) Press the LEVEL key to adjust the level of the game, the default level 10 starts.
First press LEVEL to enter the game level adjustment mode, press LEVEL key
each time+1 level, press MOVE key each time +10 level.
(4) After you have set the game level, you can start moving the white picecs.
(5) When your move is valid, the device will have a prompt sound: beep, beep.
Note: If you move incorrectly or invalidly, the device will sound a voice alert.
Press WHY? An explanation is available.

(6) Next, it's the device's turn to move:
A black square is displayed on the side of the screen to indicate that it is the
turn of the black picec to move, and the display will tell you two poitions, the
front is the starting point (blinking), and the rear is the destination.
(7) When the game is over, the device will tell you which side won the game.

10 Checkmate (White wins)
01 Checkmate (Black wins)
== Stalemate
50= Draw by 50-move rule
3= Draw by repetition
