Installing the LTE Modem Module and Pancake Antenna
This LTE modem module and pancake antenna provides you with the latest standard for connectivity between your
WeatherTRAK controller and the cloud.
Materials Provided
Cloud Update Key
LTE Pancake Antenna with attached
star washer and nut
Modem Module
2 long screws
1 short screw with attached star washer
Equipment Needed
Phillips screwdriver
Flathead screwdriver
1” wrench or adjustable wrench
Silicone: 3M™ Clear Super Silicone 08661 or similar
Towel or something clean and dry to place the control panel
on while replacing the antenna and the modem module
Putty knife for cleaning off old silicone
Cleaning wipes, such as Lysol® Disinfecting Wipes or similar
to clean controller enclosure surfaces before applying
silicone

Open the controller enclosure so you can see the
control panel.
Loosen the 4 corner pop-up screws and lift the
control panel from the cabinet.
Part 1: Update the Controller Firmware

Locate the USB port on the back side of the control
panel.
If an OptiFlow key or Cloud Update Key is
installed, remove it and set it aside.

3Check to see that the latest firmware is installed.
Press HELP. (screen 03)
Press until WEATHERTRAK VERSION displays.
For Pro3 controllers, the version should be 7.8.2 or
higher. For OptiFlow controllers, the version should
be 8.4.2 or higher.
If the firmware does not update, try Part 1 again. If it
still does not update, contact Customer Support.

Restart the controller:
Press HELP.
Press until the Restart Controller screen displays.

Press *to restart the controller.

Insert the enclosed Cloud Update Key into the
USB port as pictured.
Turn the control panel back over and temporarily
place it back onto the enclosure shelf.
If the controller had an OptiFlow Key installed, make
sure to replace it after updating the firmware.
For all other controllers, leave the Cloud Update
Key installed into the USB port.

Part 2: Disconnect AC Power and Remove the Modem Module and SIM Card
Unplug the antenna cable that is connected to the
modem and the control panel.

Disconnect the ribbon cable and antenna cable from
the back side of the control panel.
Place the control panel onto a clean, flat and dry
surface.
Unscrew and remove the modem cover and set
aside.
Properly dispose of the old modem module cover
according to the regulations in your location.

Remove the two screws that hold the modem in
place. Lift and pull the modem up from the
connecting pins.

Lift the control panel up again and locate the AC
power connector near the top of the mini-chassis
board. Disconnect AC power by unplugging the
power connector.

Part 3: Transfer the SIM Card to the New Modem Module and Install

On the new modem module, slide back the SIM card
holder to unlock it, and then open it.
Insert the SIM card into the cover so that the metal
side touches the contacts when the cover is closed
and the notched corner fits into the notch on the
holder.
Close the SIM card cover lock it in place.

Align the new modem module with the connecting
pins and gently push it down.

Tuck the existing antenna cable behind the posts. It
will not be used.
Slide back the SIM card holder to unlock it, and
then lift it open. Remove the existing SIM card and
retain it for reuse in Part 2.

Part 4: Remove the Existing Antenna and Clean the Cabinet Surfaces

Unscrew the lock nut located inside the controller
enclosure, just beneath the antenna.
Loosen the silicone adhesive around the washer with
a putty knife. Using a 1” or adjustable wrench,
remove the washer. Slide the washer and the lock nut
to the end of the cable to remove.
Remove the existing antenna from the exterior side
of the controller enclosure. You may have to pry it off
because of the silicone adhesive.

Scrape off any remaining silicone from both sides of
the controller enclosure to create a clean, smooth
surface for the new antenna.
Use a cleaning wipe to clean the interior and
exterior surfaces where the antenna is to be
mounted. Let dry.
Fasten the cover to the control panel using the two
longer screws provided. Use the shorter star
washer and screw to fasten the opposite side.

Find the dot on the surface of the antenna. The dot
is an orientation marker used to ensure proper
antenna location.
Point the dot to the outside left of the controller.

Slide the star washer onto the antenna cable end
and up toward the antenna bolt.
Insert the antenna cable through the slot nut.
Before tightening, ensure that the dot on the
antenna is aligned to the outside left of the
controller.
Hand-tighten the star washer and slot nut onto the
antenna bolt.
Caution: In order to avoid antenna damage, do not
overtighten the slot nut.

Part 5: Install the New Antenna

Apply the silicone in a circle around the antenna
opening.
Push the antenna down to ensure contact between
the controller enclosure and the antenna base.
Remove the star washer and slot nut from the new
antenna and set these pieces aside.
Feed the antenna cable through the hole at the top
of the enclosure.

Reconnect AC power on the mini-chassis.

Secure any excess antenna cable with a twist tie to
ensure that it does not snag on the chassis board.
Screw the antenna cable into the antenna port.
Caution: Make sure the antenna is securely attached
before reattaching the ribbon cable.
Reattach the ribbon cable.

Place the control panel over the 4 pre-drilled screw
holes at the top of the cabinet.
Hand-tighten the 4 corner screws.

Check to see that the date and time are correct on
the display screen. The time and date should sync
automatically if the controller is online.
Check to see that the controller is online. Press the
COMM button. Press the button until GPRS
STATUS (COMM13) displays. After 5 minutes, the
display should say Online. If it doesn’t, contact
support at 1-800-362-8774.
Close enclosure door.
