1.0 OVERVIEW
If you will be providing your own Sony FCB-EV7520 or equivalent HD camera block for a full Z3Cam-HD unit,
you have received a partially assembled system and will need to complete final assembly per the following
instructions.
These instructions assume that the electronics were correctly assembled into the Z3Cam-HD enclosure
bottom with all necessary thermal management solutions. Board level thermal management includes
two thermal pads between the Main Encoder PCB and the Interface Front End PCB as well as a copper
strip from the Main Encoder PCB to the chassis/enclosure.
Enclosures delivered by Z3 Technology are pre-assembled with the proper thermal components.
Electronics provided without the enclosure do not have the proper thermal materials and require
proper installation. Failure to implement appropriate thermal management may result in improper
operation or damage to the electronics or camera block.
2.0 MATERIALS
1x Sony FCB-EV7520 HD camera block (not included)
1x Z3Cam-HD enclosure bottom with electronics pre-assembled by Z3 Technology
1x Z3Cam-HD enclosure top
1x Thermal Pad 40 x 25 x 2.5 mm
1x KEL ribbon cable
16x M2 x 3 mm black finishing screws
4x Rubber feet (optional)
3.0 ADHESIVE THERMAL PAD AND CAMERA ASSEMBLY
(1) Locate the silver heat sink within the Z3Cam-HD enclosure bottom assembly, and place the 40 x 25
x 2.5 mm thermal pad on the heat sink centered and aligned at the top.

(2) Connect the KEL ribbon cable to CN401 on the Sony FCB-EV7520 camera.
WARNING: CONNECT ONLY TO A SONY FCB-EV7520 BLOCK CAMERA.
Connecting the encoder to a camera other than the EV7520 can result in permanent damage to
the camera or encoder.
Please consult Z3 Technology about connecting different devices BEFORE attempting it.
(3) Connect the other end of the KEL ribbon cable to the PCB.
WARNING: ONLY USE THE CORRECT KEL RIBBON CABLE PROVIDED BY Z3 TECHNOLOGY.
Using an incorrect cable can permanently damage the camera body.
(4) Align the Sony FCB-EV7520 into the enclosure bottom and securely attach with four M2 x 3 mm
finishing screws.

4.0 ENCLOSURE TOP ASSEMBLY
(1) Align the enclosure top on the unit and use four M2 x 3 mm finishing screws to attach it to the top
of the Sony FCB-EV7520.
(2) Use eight M2 x 3 mm finishing screws to attach the enclosure top to the enclosure bottom.

(3) If desired, attach four rubber feet to the bottom of the enclosure.
