SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
These operating instructions serve as a basis for using and operating the device in a safe
manner. These operating instructions, in particular the safety instructions, must be ob-
served by all users. Please observe possible restrictions due to applicable country-specific
laws. The user is responsible for proper and safety-compliant installation and use. No liabi-
lity is accepted for damage caused during installation or use.

The CUMPAN Cockpit Assistant is intended as an electronic device for use on combustion
engines. Operation must take place on a 12 V on-board power supply. The individual sensor
inputs must also be used according to the purpose intended by the manufacturer and can
be destroyed by excessively high voltages. Installation and operation must be carried out
in accordance with these instructions and the intended use. In the event of improper use
or non-observance of these instructions, no liability will be accepted for any damage that
may occur.
Intended use
Work on the motorcycle‘s electrical system may only be carried out with the power sup-
ply disconnected (battery disconnected). If not all electrical plug connections are correctly
connected when the voltage supply is restored, this can lead to an error message or mal-
function on the motorcycle.

Temperature detection
The CUMPAN has two separate temperature detections:
1. The ambient temperature
»Sensor integrated in supply line of the device, approx. 40mm from the housing
»Adjustable temperature warning warns of icy conditions
2. The engine temperature
»Sensor included in scope of delivery
»Detection of the engine temperature either at the oil/cooling water circuit or at the
Engine housing
»Adjustable temperature warner warns of overheating
RPM detection and shift flash
Dhe RPM is determined and evaluated via the so-called „crankshaft position sen-
sor“. In every modern combustion engine, the position of the crankshaft must be
permanently determined in order to coordinate ignition timing and injection. The-
refore, all the necessary data is already available. Only the signal cable of the in-
stalled sensor has to be connected. The electronics of the vehicle are not affected.
A list with connection examples can be found on our website. This list will be ex-
tended continuously. The one-time adjustment to the correct sensor is done
via the menu of the CUMPAN. This is done by increasing or decreasing the num-
ber of „pulses per crankshaft revolution“ in the [SENS] / [Count] menu. The-
re are already preset values stored, which are suitable for most vehicles.
The integrated shift flash can be adjusted depending on the engine tempera-
ture. The CUMPAN visibly warns of damaging RPMs when the engine is cold.
Deutsch
NOTEThe engine temperature is not displayed below 0°C for
technical reasons. The engine should not be loaded by too
high RPM in this temperature range.

Electrical connection
1. Power cable: red to switched +12V / black to ground. Often already prepared on
the vehicle (e.g. for a navigation device, called „ACC2“ at KTM), otherwise the pow-
er supply of the light / horn is used for this. Current requirement: 80 mA / 12V.
2. RPM signal: connect black (single) cable to the signal of the crankshaft position sen-
sor. To do this, you need to locate the cable of the sensor. As a rule, this can be found
on the alternator.
»Do not lay the cable in the direct vicinity of the ignition system
3. Engine temperature: Connect the plug to the sensor. The temperature sensor
must be screwed in/ installed in the area of the desired temperature detection.
4. IN 1: Analog input 1 (black and white cable), input voltage 0-5V
5. IN 2: Analog input 2 (black and blue cable), input voltage 0-5V
The following sensors/signals can be connected to inputs „IN 1“ and „IN 2“ respectively:
»Gear indicator („GEAR“)
»Oil pressure („PRESSURE“)
»Lambda probe („LAMBDA“/„AFR“)
»Second temperature sensor („MOTORTEMP2“)
Note: The information „PRESSURE“, „LAMBDA“, „AFR“ or „MOTORTEMP2“ can only be di-
splayed in conjunction with the optionally available additional modules.
If no signal is connected, the input must be set to „None“ in the Input menu.
Attention: The input voltage (0-5V) from the analog inputs must be observed. Higher vol-
tages destroy the device!

Operation
The menu is called up in all layouts by a touch input in the
lower left corner. The „Main menu“ is now displayed. The
six fields displayed are used to access the respective sub-
menus. The individual values can be changed via the arrow
keys.
All set values are saved as soon as you return via the arrow
key (
←
).
Main menu Submenu 1 „INPUT Submenu 2 „GEAR“
[TEMP]:
»MAX:Temperature threshold, which triggers the visual warning of overheating of the
engine
»HOT:Temperature threshold for the shift flash at which the engine changes between
„WARM“ and „COLD“.
»ICE: Temperature threshold to warn of possible icy conditions
[RPM]:
»LIMIT: Desired maximum RPM of the vehicle
»WARM: RPM threshold that triggers the shift flash - when the engine is warm
»COLD: RPM threshold that triggers the shift flash - when the engine is cold
[SENS]:
»Damping: Sets the smoothing of the RPM - the higher the value, the slower the display
»Sensor: Preset for „BIKE“ (24 pulses) / „CAR“ (60 pulses) or „UNI“ (freely adjustable)
»Count: (only for „UNI“): The number of pulses per crankshaft revolution can be freely
selected and thus the RPM detection can be adjusted

[INPUT]:
»IN1: Selection of the connected input signal to analog input 1 (black and white cable) -
„GEAR“, „PRESSURE“, „LAMBDA“, „AFR“ or „MOTORTEMP2“.
»IN2: Selection of the connected input signal to analog input 2 (black-blue cable) - „GEAR“,
„PRESSURE“, „LAMBDA“, „AFR“ or „MOTORTEMP2“.
»TEMP ADJ: Settings of an offset value for the temperature display
The calibration menu of the individual parameters can be reached by clicking on the cor-
responding parameter (e.g. „GEAR“).
Each input signal („GEAR“, „PRESSURE“, „LAMBDA“, „AFR“ or „MOTOTEMP2“) can be con-
nected to analog input 1 or analog input 2. It is only important to set in the [INPUT] menu
which input signal is connected to which analog input, so that the CUMPAN can interpret
the received voltage values correctly.
In layout „Full2“ and „GEAR“ the value of ambient temperature is replaced by the value of
IN2, if a sensor is connected.
