This guide will familiarize with how to use the camera

correctly.

Follow steps 1 - 2 on p. 80 and choose P.

Customize the settings as desired

(pp. 105 -123), and then shoot.

If adequate exposure cannot be obtained when you press the shutter button

halfway, shutter speeds and aperture values are displayed in orange. To obtain

adequate exposure, try adjusting the following settings.

Activate the flash (p. 121)

Choose a higher ISO speed (p. 106)

Movies can be recorded in pmode as well, by pressing the movie button.

However, some FUNC and MENU settings may be automatically adjusted for

movie recording.

For details on the shooting range in pmode, see "Specifications" in the Getting

Started guide.

The standard exposure set by the camera can be adjusted in 1/3-stop

increments, in a range of -2 to +2.

Exposure Compensation Bar

Press the A button. As you watch the screen,

press the 4 _ buttons to adjust the brightness.

When shooting movies, shoot with the

exposure compensation bar displayed.

When shooting still images, press the @

button to display the set exposure

compensation amount, and then shoot.

You can also shoot still images with exposure compensation bar displayed.While recording a movie, AELis displayed, and the exposure is locked.

Before shooting, you can lock the exposure, or you can specify focus and

exposure separately.

Set the flash to _) (p. 56).

......... ...........,, Lock the exposure.

Aim the camera at the subject to shoot with

the exposure locked. With the shutter button

pressed halfway, press the A button.

AELis displayed, and the exposure is locked.

To unlock AE, release the shutter button and

press the A button again. In this case, AELis

no longer displayed.

Compose the shot and shoot.

image Brightness (Exposure Compensation)

Adjust the metering method (how brightness is measured) to suit shooting

conditions as follows.

Press the @ button, choose [:8_ in the menu,

and choose the desired option (p. 39).

The option you configured is now displayed.

1:®3.... For typical shooting conditions including backlit shots.

h_valua'[ive Automatically adjusts exposure to match the shooting conditions.

Determines the average brightness of light across the entire image

Center area, calculated by treating brightness in the central area as more

E_ Weighted Avg. important.

E,_ Spot Metering restricted to within the [ ] (Spot AE Point frame),

displayed in the center of the screen.

Press the @ button, choose _ in the menu,

and choose the desired option (p. 39).

Automatically adjusts the ISO speed to suit the shooting mode and

conditions.

lo0 _2a0 Low For shooting outdoors in fair weather.

_ High For shooting night scenes, or in dark rooms.

image Brightness (Exposure Compensation)

To view the automatically set ISO speed when the camera is set to _, press

the shutter button halfway.

Although choosing a lower ISO speed may reduce image graininess, there may

be a greater risk of subject blurriness in some shooting conditions.

Choosing a higher ISO speed wit! increase shutter speed, which may reduce

subject blurriness and increase the flash range. However, shots may look

grainy.

Before shooting, excessively bright or dark image areas (such as faces or

backgrounds) can be detected and automatically adjusted to the optimal

brightness. Insufficient overall image contrast can also be automatically

corrected before shooting to make subjects stand out better.

Press the MENUbutton, choose [i-Contrast]

on the O tab, and then choose [Auto] (p. 40).

Once the setting is complete, Cl is displayed.

i_ Under some shooting conditions, correction may be inaccurate or

may cause images to appear grainy.

You can also correct existing images (p. 155).

By adjusting white balance (WB), you can make image colors look more

natural for the scene you are shooting.

Press the @ button, choose AWBin the menu,

and choose the desired option (p. 39).

The option you configured is now displayed.

AWB Auto Automatically sets the optimal white balance for the shooting

conditions.

,_:- Day Light For shooting outdoors in fair weather.

I1_ Cloudy For shooting in cloudy conditions, in the shade, or at twilight.

For shooting under ordinary incandescent (tungsten) lighting

_,6_ Tungsten and similarly colored fluorescent lighting.

Fluorescent For shooting under warm-white, cool-white, and similarly colored

,,_, fluorescent lighting.

@Custom White Balance

For image colors that look natural under the light in your shot, adjust white

balance to suit the light source where you are shooting. Set the white balance

under the same light source that will illuminate your shot.

Follow the steps in "Adjusting White Balance"

(p. 108)to choose _J,_.

Aim the camera at a plain white subject, so

that the entire screen is white. Press the

MENUbutton.

The tint of the screen changes once the white

balance data has been recorded.

(_ Colors may look unnatural if you change camera settings after

recording white balance data.

Color and Continuous Shooting

Change image color tones as desired, such as converting images to sepia or

black and white.

Press the @ button, choose _FF in the menu,

and choose the desired option (p. 39).

The option you configured is now displayed.

_FF My Colors Off Emphasizes contrast and color saturation, making images

z_v Vivid sharper.

Tones down contrast and color saturation for subdued

t_N Neutral images.

_e Sepia Creates sepia tone images.

'Combines the effects of Vivid Blue, Vivid Green, and Vivid

z_p Positive Film Red to produce intense yet natural-looking colors

resembling images on positive film.

_D Darker Skin Tone Darkens skin tones.

Emphasizes blues in images. Makes the sky, ocean, and

_8 Vivid Blue other blue subjects more vivid.

_R Vivid Red Emphasizes reds in images. Makes red subjects more vivid.

Adjust contrast, sharpness, color saturation, and other

_1C Custom Dolor qualities as desired (p. 111).

White balance (p. I08) cannot be set in _e or _W modes.

With _1Land _D modes, colors other than people's skin tone may be

modified. These settings may not produce the expected results with

some skin tones.

®Custom Color

Choose the desired level of image contrast, sharpness, color saturation, red,

green, blue, and skin tones in a range of 1 - 5.

Access the setting screen.

Follow the steps in "Changing Image Color

Tones (My Colors)" (p. 110) to choose _C,

and then press the MENUbutton.

;Configure the setting.

Press the A'_" buttons to choose an option,

and then press the 4_ buttons to specify the

value.

For stronger/more intense effects (or darker

skin tones), adjust the value to the right, and

for weaker/lighter effects (or lighter skin

tones), adjust the value to the left.

Press the MENUbutton to complete the

setting.

Hold the shutter button all the way down to shoot continuously.

Press the @ button, choose [] in the menu,

and choose the desired option (p. 39).

The option you configured is now displayed.
