Tv, Av, and M Mode

Take smarter, more sophisticated shots

Instructions in this chapter apply to the camera as set to the respective

mode.

Set your preferred shutter speed before shooting as follows. The camera

automatically adjusts the aperture value to suit your shutter speed.

For details on available shutter speeds, see "Specifications" (_[_217).

Enter <Tv> mode.

Set the mode dial to <Tv >.

Set the shutter speed.

Turn the <:_ii_> dial to set the shutter

speed,

(_ With shutter speeds of 1.3 seconds or slower, there will be a delay

before you can shoot again, as images are processed to remove

noise.

When shooting at low shutter speeds on a tripod, you should set

[IS Mode] to [Off] (_114).

Orange display of aperture values when you press the shutter

button halfway indicates that the settings deviate from standard

exposure. Adjust the shutter speed until the aperture value is

displayed in white, or use safety shift (_[_117).

<Tv>: Time value

Set your preferred aperture value before shooting as follows. The camera

automatically adjusts the shutter speed to suit your aperture value.

For details on available aperture values, see "Specifications" (_217).

Set the mode dial to <Av >.

Turn the <!_:_> dial to set the aperture

value.

(_ Orange display of shutter speeds when you press the shutter

button halfway indicates that the settings deviate from standard

exposure. Adjust the aperture value until the shutter speed is

displayed in white, or use safety shift (see below).

<Av>: Aperture value (size of the opening made by the iris in the lens)

To avoid exposure problems in <Tv > and <AV > modes, you can have the

camera automatically adjust the shutter speed or aperture value, even when

standard exposure cannot otherwise be obtained. Press the <MENU> button

and set [Safety Shift] on the [O] tab to [On] ([_47).

However, safety shift is disabled when the flash fires.

aperture value to obtain the desired exposure.

Set the mode dial to <M >.

Configure the setting.

Press the <r+"_>button, choose

adjustment of shutter speed or aperture

value, and turn the <(!_ > dial to specify

a value.

An exposure level mark based on your

specified value is shown on the exposure

level indicator for comparison to the

standard exposure level.

The exposure level mark is shown

in orange when the difference from

standard exposure exceeds 2 stops. "-2"

or "+2" is displayed in orange in the lower

right when you press the shutter button

halfway.

(_ After you set the shutter speed or aperture value, the exposure

level may change if you adjust the zoom or recompose the shot.

Screen brightness may change depending on your specified

shutter speed or aperture value. However, screen brightness

remains the same when the flash is up and the mode is set to [_.].

To have the setting you did not configure in step 2 (whether shutter

speed or aperture value) automatically adjusted to obtain standard

exposure, hold the shutter button halfway and press the <1_>

button. Note that standard exposure may not be possible with

some settings.

Specific Shutter Speeds and Aperture Values (<M> Mode)

<M>: Manual

Calculation of standard exposure is based on the specified metering method

(fy_g5).

_Adjusting the Flash Output

Choose from the three flash levels in <_V_> mode.

,Enter <M> mode.

Set the mode dial to <_W>.

Configure the setting.

Press the <@> button, choose [[_] in

the menu, and adjust the setting by either

pressing the <_><_,> buttons or turning

the <_;_::_> dial (_46).

Once the setting is complete, [_J_J]is

displayed.

_}, You can also set the flash level by accessing <MENU> (_47) and

choosing [Flash Output] in [Flash Settings] on the [O] tab.

You can set the flash level in <Tv > or <Av > mode by accessing <MENU>

(S_47), choosing [Flash Settings] on the [O] tab, and then setting [Flash

Mode] to [Manual].

You can also access the [Flash Settings] <MENU> screen as follows.

When the flash is up, press the <_> button and immediately press the

<MENU> button.

Playback Mode

Have fun reviewing your shots, and browse or edit them

in many ways

• To prepare the camera for these operations, press the <r_> button to

enter Playback mode.

(T) It may not be possible to play back or edit images that were

renamed or already edited on a computer, or images from other

cameras.

After shooting images or movies, you can view them on the screen as

follows.

Enter Playback mode.

Press the <['_q> button,

Your last shot is displayed,

J: Browse through your images.

To view the previous image, press

the <,_> button or turn the <,_i/::}> dial

counterclockwise. To view the next

image, press the <_> button or turn the

<_.i_:_> dial clockwise.

Press and hold the <_><_> buttons to

browse through images quickly. Images

appear grainy at this time.

To access Scroll Display mode, turn the

<_/;i_:>dial rapidly. In this mode, turn the

<,_.i_i_i_:>dial to browse through images.

To return to single-image display, press

the <@> button.

To browse images grouped by shooting

date, press the <A><v> buttons in

Scroll Display mode.

Movies are identified by a _'_,_,_] icon. To

play movies, go to step 3.

Viewing

Volume

Play movies.

To start playback, press the <@> button

to access the movie control panel,

choose [ _] (either press the <4><_>

buttons or turn the <_,_i_ > dial), and then

press the <@> button again.

Adjust the volume.

Press the <,_><v> buttons to adjust the

volume.

Pause playback.

To pause or resume playback, press the

<@> button.

After the movie is finished, [_] is

displayed.

To switch to Shooting mode from Playback mode, press the shutter button

halfway.

To deactivate Scroll Display, press the <MENU> button, choose [Scroll

Display] on the [I-€'i]tab, and then choose [Off].

If you prefer to have the most recent shot displayed when you enter playback

mode, press the <MENU> button, and on the [_] tab, choose [Resume] and

then [Last shot].

To change the transition shown between images, press the <MENU> button,

choose [Transition] on the [r_] tab, and then press the <4><_,> buttons to

choose the effect.
