Introduction
Thankyouforselectingthe‘single‐use’ExtechModelTHD5USBTemperatureDatalogger.This
dataloggerisspecificallydesignedformonitoringthetransportationofproductssubjecttocold
chainrequirements.
TheTHD5isaneasy‐to‐use,waterproof(IP65),andportableUSBTemperatureDatalogger.The
THD5usesaUSB2.0connectorthatcanbepluggedintoaPCforuser‐customizeddatalogger
setup.TheTHD5canthenbeplacedinanareawheretemperatureistobemonitored.Once
placed,theusercanpresstheSTARTbuttontobeginrecording.Whencompleted,theTHD5can
thenbepluggedbackintothePCwhereaPDFreportofloggedtemperaturereadingscanbe
generated(AdobeReader®softwarerequired).
Ten(10)one‐time‐usedataloggersareprovided;eachcanlog8192temperaturereadings.This
deviceisshippedfullytestedandcalibrated.

Afterprogramming,returntheunittotheplasticbagandsealthebagbeforelogging.

Configuringthedatalogger
Atanytimebeforeloggingisstarted,theloggercanbeprogrammedandre‐programmed.
1. ConnectthedataloggertoaPCviatheUSBport.
2. TheLoggerstatusLEDsblinktwice.
3. ThesoftwarewindowwillappearonthePC.
4. Clickon‘OpenFolder’toviewtheavailablefiles.
5. Openthefile"PDFLoggerConfigurationTool.exe".
6. ThedefaultlanguageisEnglish;selectGerman,French,Italian,Spanish,orPortugueseas
desired.ThegeneratedPDFreportformatwillmatchthelanguageselected.
7. Toreviewtheinstructionmanual,click‘Manual’tolinktotheUserManualPDFfile.
8. TheProgrammableParametersaredefinedbelow:

Thepresetalarmdelaytimeforsinglealarmtypeisalwayszero.
Theadjustablealarmdelaytimeforcumulativealarmtypeis5minutesto2hours.
Alarmtypes
Regardlessofwhatalarmtypeisselected,theLEDwillcontinueflashing(onceitis
triggered)evenwhenthemeasuredvaluelaterreturnstothenormalrange.
SingleAlarm:TheLEDalarmistriggeredimmediatelywhenthemeasuredvalue
exceedsthealarmthreshold.
Cumulative:TheLEDalarmisnottriggeredwhenthemeasuredvalueexceedsthe
alarmthreshold.TheLEDalarmistriggeredonlywhentheaveragevalue,duringthe
alarmdelaytime,exceedsthealarmthreshold.
Disable:NoLEDalarmfunctionduringtheloggingprocess
Alarmvalue
Selectthealarmthresholdvalue.Forexampleif2~8oCisselected:Whenthe
measuredvaluefallsbelow2oCorexceeds8oCtheLEDindicatorwilltrigger.
Unit
SelectthedesiredtemperatureunitforthePDFreport(CelsiusorFahrenheit).
TimeZone
TheTHD5LoggerautosynchronizesthetimezonewithaPCwhen‘Save’isselectedto
confirmasetting.Note:Timezonechangesoccurringduringloggingarenottakeninto
account.

ThepasswordsecurityfunctionisOFFbydefault.Thepasswordfunctioncanbe
enabledanda16alphanumericcharacter(max.)passwordcanbeusedtoprevent
unauthorizedre‐programming

(8)bookmarkscanbeplacedinadatalogsession.
DownloadLoggedData(PDFReport)
Pressandholdthe‘STOP’buttonfortwosecondstostopthedatalogger(thelogger
automaticallystopswhenthelogreaches8192readings).Alternatively,plugtheloggerdirectly
intothePCUSBporttostoptheloggingandtogenerateaPDFreport.Afterafewsecondsthe
PDFreportwillbegenerated.ThePDFreportincludesreadingdataandtrendgraph.Thestatus
LEDswillblinkwhiletheloggerisgeneratingthePDFreport.
NOTE:OncetheDataloggerisStartedandthenStopped,theunitcannotbereused.Anewunit
wouldhavetobeusedtomakenewrecordings.Ten(10)loggersaresuppliedinthepackage.
