Readtheseinstructionsthroughcarefullybeforeinstallingandusingthestove.

Theseinstructionsforinstallationandusearemeantfortheownerofthesauna.The

instructionmanualmustbegiventotheownerwheninstallationiscomplete.

Makesuretostorethismanualforlateruse.

Readthroughtheinstructionsbeforeinstallation:

 Whenchoosingthelocationforthestove,checkthesafetydistancestoinflammable

materials.

 Checktheweightbearingcapacityoftheflooraswellastheconnectiontothechimney

(whetheryouneedastraightoranangledconnectorpipe),ortheinstallationroutefora

newchimneypipe,ifneeded.

 Alllocalregulationsmustbecompliedwithduringinstallation,includingthoserelatingto

localorEU‐levelstandards.

NOTE!

Beware of the sharp edges of the mesh frame and other parts. Always wear

protective gloves and a long‐sleeved shirt when handling the mesh frame and

pilinginstones.

ThestoveMUSTNOTbeusedforanyotherpurposethanheatingthesauna,e.g.dryingclothes

orheatingaconstructionsite,etc.

Coveringthestoveduringuseorwhenitishotisstrictlyprohibited.

Throwingseawateronthestonesisprohibitedandwillcausethewarrantytobecomevoid

andmaycauseearlycorrosion.

Bewareoftheblastconnection,hatch,orothermetalsurfacesofthestoveandthestones,

THEYMAYBEHOT!Alwayswearprotectivegloves,etc.

Beextracautiouswhenusingthestovewhenchildrenarepresent!

Bewareofthesharpedgesofthemeshframeandotherparts.Alwayswearprotectivegloves

andalong‐sleevedshirtwhenhandlingthemeshframeandpilinginstones.

Inadditiontothisinstruction,theEUheaterstandard15821,localfirerescueauthority’srules

andregulationsmustbetakenintoaccountwheninstallingandusingthestove.

Thewarrantydoesnotcoverproblemscausedbyfaultyinstallationandimproperuse.

NOTE!Thehatchinthestovemaydiscolourafterfrequentuseandthepaintmayshowsignsof

wear.Itispossibletoapplyanewcoatofpaint(600‐degreeheatresistantpaint).Beforepainting,

thehatchmustbecleanedwithdegreaserandthesurfacesmoothed.



2.2Preparationforuse



 Preparatoryburn:Lightafireinthestoveoncebeforelayingthestonesandbathing,in

ordertogetridofanypotentiallyharmfulresiduefromprotectivecoatingsoroilonthe

steelsurfaces.Thisshouldbedoneoutsideorinawell‐ventilatedspace.

 Itisrecommendedthatadamperisinstalledintothechimneytoallowdraughttobe

adjusted.Thereisalsoasmallknobonthehatchthatallowsairflowtoberegulated.

 Inafullironhatch,movetheknobuptoopenitanddowntoshut.Inaglasshatchthe

knobismovedtotherighttoopenandtothelefttoshutit.

 Inordinaryuse,olivine‐doleritestonessmallerthan10cmindiameter,arerecommended.

Thestonesshouldbelaidcarefullytoallowmaximumairflow.

 Keepingflammableliquidsormaterialsnearthestoveisstrictlyforbidden.

 Thefireauthoritiesmustbenotifiedofallsootfires,eveniftheyhavebeenexhausted.

 Inprivatesaunasinrecreationalorotherwiseinfrequentuse,thechimneysmustbeswept

everythreeyears.

 Inprivateorsharedsaunasinregularandfrequentuse,thechimneysmustbesweptyearly.

 Thefrequencywithwhichthestonesrequirereplacingdependsontheuserate.Forexample,

inprivate‐usesaunas,thestonesclosesttothefurnaceshouldbecheckedandreplaced,if

needed,everysecondyear.Insharedandfrequentlyusedsaunas,moreoften.

mustbefilledwithstones.



 Safetydistancecanbecutdownby50%whenusingsimpleprotection(i.e.1mmmetal/fibre

boardanda30mmairgap)

 Safetydistancecanbecutdownby75%whenusingdoubleprotection(doubleprotection

boardandairgap)



ATTN!Inthe“Plus”modelstoves,wherethesmokepipeisalsocoveredbystones,thesafety

distancesarereducedby50%comparedtoplain,uncoveredsmokepipes.

2.5 Protectivebaseforthestove



Ifthestoveistobeinstalledonaninflammablefloorsurface(e.g.woodenflooring)aprotective

basemustbelaidunderthestove.Theprotectivebasemustbemadefromfireproofmaterialand

haveanairgap,suchasthestainlesssteelprotectivebasefromIKIKiuas.

Thesizeandshapeoftheprotectivebasemustadheretothesafetyregulationsforthestove.

Notethattheprotectivebaseshouldalsoextendtocoverthefloorareainfrontofthefurnace’s

hatch.

Thesafetydistanceof50cmmeasureddiagonallyfromthefurnacetothefloorinthefrontofthe

stovecanbereducedbyhalfifastainlesssteelprotectivebasewitha3‐cmairgapisused.

Theprotectivebaseaddsapprox.65mmtotheheightofthestove.Thisshouldbefactoredin

whencalculatingthechimneyorfurnaceconnectingpipes.



2.6 Chimneyconnectionheight

Thechimneyconnectionheightforthestovesiscalculatedfromthefloor,withoutabase,tothe

centreofthechimneypipe,whenthefurnacestandsonitssupportlegs.(TheIKIstainlesssteel

protectivebaseaddsapprox.67mmtotheheight).Theouterdiameterofthechimneyconnection

pipeis115mminallIKIstoves.



2.7 Chimneyconnectiononnon‐standardheights(Plusmodelstoves)

ForthePlusmodelstoves,therearetwoalternativesforchimneyconnection:



 Theuppermeshframecanbepuncturedatrequiredheighttoconnecttoandexisting

chimneypipe(i.e90degreepipe).

 Thelengthofthestraightconnectionpipecanbecutdowntorequiredlength

 Theangledpipecanbeledthroughtheholeinmeshframeandconnectedtothechimney

pipe.(Inthiscase,thestonesabovethepipeintheuppermeshframewillnotheatupand

youwilllosesomeofthestove’sheatingpower)

OR:

 Theuppermeshframecanbeshortenedfromthebottomalongwiththestraightpipeto

decreasetheheightoftheentirestructure.

3. VENTILATIONANDCOMPENSATIONAIR

Awood‐burningstoveneedssufficientincomeofairtoburnwell.Thebathersinthesaunaroom

alsorequireoxygen‐richairforbreathing.Well‐functioningventilationisalsorequiredtodrythe

saunaroomproperlyafterbathing.Thereareseveralventilationsystemsavailablefromvarious

manufacturers,thesuitabilitydependsmainlyonthesaunaroomstructure.

3.1 Gravity‐assistedventilationssystem(Illustration4.1)



Theairtofeedthefiremustbeledfromoutsidethesauna,usingapipeequippedwitha50‐100

mmgrateandadiscvalve,anddirectedeithertothesideofthestoveortofloorbesidethestove

(forexamplea50‐100mmpipeat50‐100mmheightfromthefloor).

Freshairforbreathingcanbedirectedbesidethestove,forexamplewitha100‐mmpipe,at

50‐100mmheight,abovethestove’sstonebase.

Exhaustairisledoutofthesaunapreferablythroughaholeequippedwithadiscvalveandan

adjustablegrid,placedbetweenthelowerandupperbenches.Theairshouldflowthrougha

metal‐linedchannelbuiltinsidethewallandexitjustbelowtheroof.Theexhaustairvalvecan

alsobeintheceilingorclosetotheceilingonthewalloppositethestove.

Freshairforthestoveandforbreathingcanalsobeledinthroughavalveinthedoor,oragab

belowit.Ifthedoorleadstoadressingroom,properventilationofthespacemustbeensured.Air

shouldbeallowedtoflowinquitefreelyduringbathinganddryingoftheroom.Makesuretheair

inletsdonotgetobstructed.

Asthelitstoveheatstheair,itrotatesinsidethesaunaroomandmovesupward.Freshairis

suckedinsidefromtheairinletsnearthefloorandexpelledfromtheoutletsbesidethebenches

orhighupintheceiling.

3.2 Machine‐assistedventilation



Inmachineassistedventilation,thecirculationofairandventilationoftheroomismademore

efficient,buttheairflowprinciplesandinletandoutlocationsarethesameasinGravityassisted.

3.3 Chimneyventilatorandmorethanonefurnace



 Achimneyventilatorisnotrecommendedwithwood‐burningsaunastoves.Thehigh

temperaturesofthecombustiongasesmaybreaktheventilator.

 Ifthereisneedformorethanonefurnaceinthesauna,combustiongasfromeachfurnace

mustbedirectedtoseparateexhaustduct.Forexample,acauldronandstovecombination

requiresa2‐passagechimney.

 Theairinletsmustbemeasuredaspersituation(capacityfortwofurnaces,adjustable

valvefortheamountofair).
