Preface
The main objective of this user guide is to help the new customers of Nikon e1989 digital
camera how to use the camera without any kind of confusion and worries. New customers
usually get confused because they don’t know how to operate the camera and they feel lazy to
look onto the user guide. The user manual presents a simple way of understanding the steps
with the help of some pictures which would give the overall function of the Nikon digital
Camera.
The Audience for this user guide is targeted as new customers who buy this product and those
struggling till now without knowing the method of operation. Read the instructions carefully
and try doing one step at a time to avoid confusion. This manual has also provided with a
glossary so that the audience can check the meaning of the words which they find difficult,
helping in the understanding of the guidelines.

Introduction:
This Nikon e1989 digital camera is the latest model released by the Nikon Company because
of which the customers find it difficult to get started right away. This model has some
incredible features such as 15.2 Megapixels, Wide 12x zoom, quick response and HD Movie.

This diagram shows an overview of the camera with different parts on it. The label done
on the picture would help the Customer to understand the camera about the parts.

1. First steps
1.1. Insert the Battery:
This is the first step to be done by the customer. Take the battery and insert it in the place just
next to the memory card slot. If the battery gets into it in a correct way you would hear a
cluck sound which. For instance see the picture below which shows the memory card slot and
also the place for putting the battery in.
1.2. Insert the Memory Card:
Inserting the memory card is the next step. Hold the memory card in
your hand in such a way that the golden strips appear on top of the card.
Slid the card in and wait to hear the cluck sound which means that the
memory card is correctly inserted.
1.3. Turn on Camera:
This is the first time you are going to switch on your camera after ensuring that you have
placed the battery and the memory card properly. Press the power button on top of the
camera for two seconds, the power on lamp (green) will light for a second and the
monitor will turn on and wait for the lens to pop out. The start button is shown in the
picture1 (see that if doubt persists in your mind). The start button is technically called the
power button.

1.4. Choose a language and set time:
As the camera turns on you would see light on the display. Next step is to set your
language and time for usage according to your wish. Choose your desired language and
press the ok button. The time zone menu is displayed. Select your home time zone and
press the ok button. Now the date menu is displayed.

2. Shooting and Playback
2.1. Frame a Picture:
The camera automatically selects the focus area
allowing the subject closest to the camera lens.
2.2. Focus and shoot: Smoothly press the shutter release button the rest of the way down
and you see the picture on the monitor. (The shutter release button is shown as 3rd in the
picture1).
2.3. Playback the picture: Press the play back button (this button has a symbol of
playback sign on top of it). This is shown as 7th on the picture1.
2.4. Deleting the picture: To delete the currently displayed picture on the monitor Press
the button which has a symbol of trash. Use the multi selector button to select yes and
press the ok button to get rid of the picture.
Note: Deleted pictures can’t be restored

3. Transferring the pictures to a computer
3.1. Using a Card Reader: The pictures can be transferred from the memory card to the
computer using a Card Reader. Insert the memory card into the card reader and start
transferring pictures to the computer. If the memory card has the capacity 2GB the
computer should have more space for copying the pictures.
3.2. Using USB Cable:
First turn off the camera before charging. Press the power on switch which is on top of
the camera. It is shown as 1st in the picture1. This will make your monitor blank which
means that the camera is turned off. Connect the camera to a running computer using the
supplied USB cable. Be sure that the connections are properly done. Do not force when
connecting or disconnecting the USB cables. The camera will be automatically turned on
and the power on button will start appearing. The camera monitor will remain off. You
can also use this way to charge the
camera.
Warnings
1. Do not use the camera before putting it in charge for 12 hours.

1. HD:
High Definition - meaning more clear, concise and crisp picture as well as sound.
2. Memory card:
A memory card (sometimes called a flash memory card) is a small storage medium used
to store data such as text, pictures, audio, and video, for use on small, portable or remote
computing devices.
3. Megapixels:
A megapixel refers to one million pixels, and is commonly used in reference to digital
cameras as an indication of resolution capability. A pixel is a tiny square on a
computerized display that is so small it appears as a dot.
4. Card reader:
"Card reader" is the generic term for an Input device that reads flash memory cards. It
can be a standalone device that connects to a computer via USB or it may be integrated
into a computer, printer, or multifunction device. In fact, most multifunction
printer/scanner/copiers now have built-in card readers.
4. USB Cable:
USB cables are used to transfer data between devices and computers. They are the
universally accepted standard of computer integration with many consumer electronics.

1. How much time should we usually charge the battery for full power?
Ans: Usually the battery requires charge for around 4 hours.
2. Can we use 16GB memory card with this?
Ans: Yeah the Camera can resist 16GB memory Card.
3. Do we have to change the settings as per the sunlight?
Ans: No, the Camera automatically adjusts its settings because it is put in auto mode.
4. How many pictures can we take in 2GB memory card?
Ans: One can take around 600 pictures with the help of 2 GB memory card.
5. Is the camera water proof?
Ans: The Camera is not waterproof.
6. How much pictures can one take with a full charged battery?
Ans: One can take around 500 pictures with a fully charged battery.
