OTICON CHILI FITTING GUIDE
The Complete Guide to Fitting Oticon Chili using Genie 2010.2
This manual is made to help you achieve success
with Chili super power instruments
Reading this Manual
Genie 2010.2 or a later version must be used to program
Chili instruments.
The Quick Fit Guide takes you through an overview of the
instrument programming step by step.
For more detailed information on the individual fitting steps
and options please refer to the sections: ‘Connecting Chili to
Genie’ and ‘Programming Chili’.
The Programming section also includes a description of how
the ConnectLine applications are programmed, and later the
ConnectLine concept is explained.
The last section of this manual covers miscellaneous
service and maintenance instructions.

Fitting flow for severe and profound hearing losses
It is just as easy and quick to fit Chili super power instruments
as other Oticon hearing instruments. To meet the special
requirements of SP hearing instruments – and users – the Chili
Fitting screen includes specific tools like the Overall Loudness
Trimmer, as well as the recommended fitting flow varies a little
from that of our other products. Use this Quick Fit Guide to get
an overview of the fitting flow.
Chili is programmed using programming shoes and Oticon
programming cable #3 (right and left).
You can also use nEARcom without cables to fit Chili instru-
ments.
Navigating in Genie
Horizontal navigation: Organizer
Use the Organizer to navigate through the fitting flow.
Vertical navigation: Task Pane
In each organizer step there is a Task Pane providing access to
tools and links related to where you are in the fitting process.

Click Detect to detect connected instruments.
Click Continue to go to Selection.
Note: Make sure the instrument volume control is set to a
position between step 1 and 4 during detection (and not in
stand-by mode).

Verify that the settings of Vent, Hook and Tubing is equal to
the actual earmould vent, hook and tubing/insert.

Feedback Manager
Run feedback measurement to establish feedback limits.
Overall Loudness Trimmer
Use the Overall Loudness Trimmer to quickly adjust gain and
MPO and hereby get a quick acceptance of loudness.
MPO
Evaluate the MPO and reshape according to your client’s needs
(if necessary).
Click on MPO and make any changes using +/-
To make the correction binaurally press the link button.
Program Manager (telephone options etc.)
By default, one program is available: P1 General (M)
To add extra programs: click and select additional program
from the options menu.
END FITTING
Buttons and Indicators
Configure the program button and demonstrate the beep
indicators.
Save, Program and Exit
Click Save, Program and Exit before disconnecting the hearing
instruments.

Introducing the Oticon Chili Family
Oticon Chili is a super power instrument for people with
greater hearing loss, ranging from moderately-severe to
profound. Oticon Chili is powered by the RISE 2 wireless
platform.
Oticon Chili introduces new and advanced approaches to
processing of speech signals, noise reduction and directional-
ity that are designed to give the user a better ability to follow
conversations in noise.
Audiology
Oticon Chili introduces Speech Guard in the super power
category, consequently offering a unique ability to achieve
maximal audibility and preserve vital speech information for
the individual. Speech Guard works to maintain signal fidelity
to improve the ability to follow speech even in complex
environments.
Oticon Chili also manages noise and sudden loud sounds
in a way well suited for people with a greater hearing loss.
The effective combination of the unique Spatial Noise
Management and the Split Directionality system intelligently
secure that clear, natural speech can be delivered at audible
and comfortable levels even in demanding situations.
DSEsp – Oticon’s proprietary super power rationale – is
designed to provide optimal loudness levels for varying speech
inputs across frequencies and thereby providing the desirable
amplification and the maximum clarity for severe to profound
hearing losses.
Connectivity
ConnectLine is an embedded part of Oticon Chili and offers the
users intuitive wireless access to modern entertainment and
communication appliances like phone, mobile and TV.
Design
Oticon Chili is a discrete BTE 13 available in 7 colours. A
completely new construction method leads to outstanding
robustness and resistance to tear and wear. Oticon Chili is
designed with double protection – inside out – to protect the
instrument from moisture, sweat, dirt and shocks.

Canal, Canal lock and Half shell should only be used with sound
tube through (insert is not recommended).
Skeleton and Full shell can be used with tube through or insert
at your preference.
Soft material could be used for tighter seal (beware though,
soft moulds are usually a bit oversized and they insulate more,
thus less comfortable for many of users).
It is important to inspect the ear properly to find the optimal
mould for each individual user (for comfort and no acoustical
feedback).
A correctly made impression is fundamental for an optimal ear
mould.

Connecting the Programming Shoe
1. Open the battery door on the instrument and slide the
programming shoe into the guide as shown. (Make sure the
battery is fresh).
2. Close the battery door and attach the HI-PRO or
NOAHlink cable.

For greater flexibility and comfort use nEARcom without
cables to fit Chili instruments.
Detect the instruments
1. Switch on the instruments using fresh batteries.
2. Lay nEARcom on the table and place the instruments
in the middle of the neck loop.
3. Click Detect for cordless programming.
Note: make sure the instrument volume control is set to a
position between step 1 and 4 during detection.
