DC CIRCUIT BREAKER
The maximumcurrentavailable fromthe batterycharger
circuitis15 amps.Anautomatic DC circuit breaker has been
provided to protectthe circuitfrom overloads and assurethat
the batterygets recharged.Ifan overload occurs, the circuit
breakerwilltrip. Afteritcools,it willautomaticallyreset itself.
The battery’smaximum rateof charge willeventuallyreduce to
less than 15amps andthen to zeroas the battery approaches
a100 percent state ofcharge.
LOWOIL SHUTDOWN
Some unitsareequipped with low oil shutdown. If the oil
levelbecomes lowerthan required, the generatorset will
automaticallyshutoff.This protectsyourgeneratorset from
operating without proper lubrication.
If generatorshutsoffand the oillevelisaccording to
specifications,checkto see ifgenerator issitting atanangle
that forcesoil toshift. Place on an even surface tocorrectthis.
If engine fails tostart, the oillevel may notbe sufficient to
deactivate low oillevelswitch.Besurethe sumpis completely
fullofoil.
Note:On ModelsPM0477023 & PC0477023 you will
have tocranktheengine1-2secondsto build up enough
pressure to opentheshutdown switch.
INFREQUENT SERVICE
If the unit isused infrequently, difficultstarting may result.
Toeliminatehardstarting, run the generator at least30 minutes
everymonth. Also,if the unitwill not be used for sometime, it
is a goodidea todrain the fuel from the carburetorand gas
tank.
LONG TERM STORAGE
When thegeneratorsetisnot being operated oris being
storedmore than one month, follow these instructions:
1.Replenish engine oil to upperlevel.
2.Draingasoline fromfueltank,fuelline and carburetor.
3.Pourabout one teaspoon of engine oil through the spark
plug hole, pullthe recoil starterseveraltimes and replace
the plug. Then pullthe starteruntilyoufeelthe pistonison
its compression stroke and leave it inthat position. This
closesboththeintake and exhaust valvestoprevent the
inside ofthecylinder fromrusting.
4.Coverthe unitand storeina clean, dryplace thatiswell
ventilated away from open flameor sparks.
NOTE:The useof afuel additive,such as STA-BIL®,or
an equivalent, will minimize theformulation of fuelgum
depositsduringstorage. Suchanadditive may be added
to the gasolinein the fueltankofthe engine, orto the
gasoline in a storage container.
WARNING:To avoid possible personalinjury
orequipmentdamage,a registeredelectricianor
an authorized service representativeshould
perform installation and all service. Underno
circumstances should anunqualified person
attemptto wire into anutility circuit.
Toavoidbackfeeding into utilitysystems,isolation ofthe
residence electricalsystemisrequired.
Beforetemporaryconnection of the generatortothe
residence electrical system, turn offthe main switch.
If your generator is tobe used as astand-bypowersource
incaseof utilitypowerfailure, itshould be installed by a
registered electrician and in compliance with all applicable local
electrical codes.
Properuse requires thata double throwtransfer switchbe
installed by alicensedqualified electrician so thatthe building's
electrical circuits may be safelyswitched between utilitypower
and the generator'soutput, thereby preventing backfeed into
the powerutility'selectricalsystem.
WARNING: To avoid backfeeding into utility
systems, isolation of the residence electrical
systemisrequired. Before temporaryconnection
ofa generatortotheresidence electrical system
turnoffthemain switch.Before making permanent
connectionsa doublethrow transfer switch must
be installed. To avoid electrocution orproperty
damage, only atrained electrician should connect
generatorto residence electricalsystem.
Californialawrequires isolationof theresidence
electricalsystembefore connecting a generatorto
residence electrical systems.
