2Fundamental Safety Instructions
2.1Standards of Technology
The Compact Terminal SCTMi system is built in accordance with the latest standards of technology and is
delivered in a safe operating condition. These instructions contain important information on using the
system.
NOTE
Damage to plants and systems
4Read the instructions closely and keep them for later use.
2.2Emissions
The ejectors integrated in the SCTMi emit noise due to the use of compressed air.
WARNING
Noise pollution due to the escape of compressed air
Hearing damage!
4Wear ear protectors.
4The ejector must only be operated with a silencer.
2.3Intended Use
The Compact Terminal SCTMi is designed to generate a vacuum for gripping and transporting objects
when used in conjunction with suction cups.
Neutral gases are approved as evacuation media. Neutral gases include air, nitrogen and inert gases (e.g.
argon, xenon and neon). For further information, see (> See ch. Technical Data).
The product is intended for industrial use.
Any other use is considered improper by the manufacturer and is deemed as contrary to the designated
use.
2.4Non-Intended Use
WARNING
Extraction of hazardous media, liquids or bulk material
Personal injury or damage to property!
4Do not extract harmful media such as dust, oil mists, vapors, aerosols etc.
4Do not extract aggressive gases or media such as acids, acid fumes, bases, biocides, dis-
infectants or detergents.
4Do not extract liquids or bulk materials, e.g. granulates.
Schmalz accepts no liability for damages caused by non-intended usage of the SCTMi.
In particular, the following are considered non-intended use:
• Use in potentially explosive atmospheres

3Product description
3.1Description of the Compact Terminal
Example: SCTMi with 9 ejectors
The Schmalz Compact Terminal SCTMi, or SCTMi for short, is a compact unit of multiple vacuum genera-
tors known as ejectors. Thanks to its modular design, up to 16 individual ejectors can be controlled and
configured independently. It can be used to handle different parts simultaneously and independently us-
ing just one vacuum system.
The Compact Terminal SCTMi has an industrial Ethernet interface. The compressed air supply can be con-
nected centrally for all ejectors. As an alternative, it can also be connected separately for each ejector.
Each ejector has an autonomous energy and process control for monitoring the vacuum circuit.
All settings, parameters and measurement and analysis data are made available centrally via the interface.
Additionally, much of the information and status reports for the Compact Terminal SCTMi can be accessed
using wireless communication with NFC (Near Field Communication).
3.2Description of the Ejector
Ejector SCPSt
The venturi nozzle on the ejector is activated and deactivated using the Suction command.
• In the NO (normally open) variant, the venturi nozzle is deactivated when the Suction signal is re-
ceived.
• In the NC (normally closed) version, the venturi nozzle is activated.
An integrated sensor records the vacuum generated by the venturi nozzle. The exact vacuum level can be
read via the interface.
