INSTRUCTION MANUAL

WARNING:

Do not use with gasoline, petrol, or ﬂuids with a ﬂash point below

100° F (38° C).

To prevent injury, always disconnect the power source when installing

or servicing an electrical product.

Always use the fuse amperage rating speciﬁed for your pump model.

Failure to do so may cause serious personal injury or ﬁre hazards. The

pump has been designed for non-continuous use. Under conditions of

high operating pressures (by closed or blocked outlet, excessive length

of the delivery circuit and/or excessive pressure due to accessories),

the pump can be stressed too much and overheat. Therefore it should

not be used for prolonged periods under such conditions. Do not

remove pump and supplied accessories or make any modiﬁcations

thereof.

INSTALLATION

The electrical installation of the pump must include a protection fuse which is properly

rated as indicated on the motor label. Warranty expires if a fuse is not utilized. Electrical

wire size should depend on the distance between the pump and battery supply. The

use of undersized wire may cause overheating of the electrical wiring and subsequently

cause a ﬁre hazard. There will also be a voltage drop at the motor terminals with a

subsequent reduction in efﬁciency. The ﬂow rate value indicated on the motor label is

obtained with a 13mm or approx. 1/2 in internal hose diameter on the outlet. Hoses

having inferior hosing will cause an increase in current with potential risk of motor

overheating. To ensure the correct directional ﬂow of the ﬂuid as indicated by the

arrow on top of the pump, it is necessary to connect the positive pole of the battery

supply to the (+) marked terminal on the motor end cap and negative pole to the (-)

marked terminal. Electrical connections must be made using suitable terminal blocks

and connectors ensuring a tight laying of the electrical cables. Improper wiring can

cause power losses and/or overheating of the wiring.

Warning: It will be the installer/Technicians responsibility to ensure a properly designed

circuit installation according to the electrical regulations and code. DO NOT Take

pump and parts apart for servicing or repairs.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

1. If the engine is cool, run the engine for 5 minutes to raise the temperature of the

oil to a maximum of 120 F. Before attempting to remove oil, shut off the engine.

Increased oil temperatures should allow for better ﬂow, and reduce amperage

load on the pump/motor during use.

Remove the dipstick tube, and insert the small 1/4 in extraction tube to the bottom

of the oil pan or when reasonable resistance is felt. If assembled, the small tube

should be connected to the larger 3/8 in tube via push-to-connect union ﬁtting.

Ensure the other end of the 3/8 in tube is securely inserted into the push-to-connect

ﬁtting installed on the inlet side of the pump.

3. Take the alligator clips coming off the pump and clamp it to your battery. The Red

alligator clip will go to your positive terminal and the Black clip to your negative

terminal. Make sure the pump is appropriately fused through the positive connection.

4. Make sure that probe has bottomed out. A simple way to make sure the probe has

bottomed out is take a measurement of the distance from the top of the dipstick

tube to the bottom of the pan and visually mark this distance on the probe. When the

probe is bottomed out, slightly pull the probe up around ¼" and secure the probe

in that position for the duration of the oil removal process.

4a. If your pump is equipped with a polarily reversin switch (65F3B Kit), the pump will

only active when the switch is depressed in the direction of ﬂow. Oil should be drawn

into the inlet side of th epump, and released into the bucket and visible throught the

clear tube on the outlet side.

5. After oil is removed, do not leave the pump running dry for more than 30 seconds.

After the oil is removed from your engine, make sure the pump is switched off by

removing alligator clips from the battery. Disconnect the alligator clips from the

battery and carefully remove the dipstick probe from the dipstick tube.

To empty the container of used oil remove tab from pour spout of bucket, pull

spout out and SLOWLY pour out oil into an approved container for recycling and

appropriate disposal.

Note: Always recycle used oil in compliance with federal and local legislation. Handle

all petroleum products in an environmentally responsible way.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

Problem Solutions

Why doesn’t the pump start? Check the voltage on your battery

Check to make sure fuse is not blown

The average life span of the motor is 800-1000

hours under normal operating conditions. If the

pump is used beyond that, carbon brushes have

worn out, replace pump.

Why isn’t the pump priming? The pump has run dry for too long damaging the

internal components. Long periods of inactivity

may cause pump to lose prime.

Battery leads may be switched, ensure pump posi-

tive (Red) is connected to battery positive (+), and

pump negative (Black) to battery negative (-).

Polarity reversing switch may be depressed in the

incorrect ﬂow direction.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE:

No particular maintenance is required if the pump is employed for the transfer of

diesel ﬂuids or oils.

to the original consumer purchaser that this product will be free from defects in

material and workmanship, providing that the case is not opened or the pump

otherwise abused for a period of one (1) year from the date originally purchased.

The exclusive remedy of the consumer purchaser in the event the product does not

meet this express Limited Warranty is to return the pump to SPXFLOW Johnson Pump

at the above address, freight prepaid with your sales receipt. IMPORTANT: FOR

THIS WARRANTY TO BE EFFECTIVE, SPXFLOW JOHNSON PUMP MUST BE

SUPPLIED WITH THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE DATE OF THE PRODUCT. THE

ACCEPTANCE BY JOHNSON PUMP OF ANY PRODUCT RETURNED SHALL

NOT BE DEEMED AN ADMISSION THAT SUCH PRODUCT IS DEFECTIVE OR

IN VIOLATION OF ANY WARRANTY. THE COMPANY RESERVES THE RIGHT

TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THE PRODUCT.

EXPENSES OR DAMAGES SHALL SURVIVE ANY FAILURE OF ESSENTIAL

or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitation may
