WARNING! Hard drives and storage docks require careful handling, especially when
being transported. If you are not careful with your hard disk, lost data may result.
Always handle your hard drive and storage device with caution. Be sure that you
are properly grounded by wearing an anti-static strap when handling computer
components or discharge yourself of any static electricity build-up by touching a large
grounded metal surface (such as the computer case) for several seconds.
Hard Drive Installation
1. With the USB 3.0 to USM adapter removed from the S2510U33USM USM Enclosure,
remove the two screws on either side of the USM port, to remove the SATA plate.
2. Slide the inner tray forwards out of the housing.
3. To install the hard drive start by placing one side into the tray then lower the other
size into place until the drive snaps into place.
4. Install the tray back into the housing and replace the back plate ensuring that the
plate is aligned to the SATA connector.
5. Fix the two screws on the SATA plate back into place.
Interfacing with S2510U33RUSM 5.25 in. Installation Bay
Mount Drive
With the USB 3.0 to USM adapter removed from the S2510U33USM USM Enclosure,
gently slide the USM Enclosure Drive into the slot provided by the 5.25 in. USM drive
tray (S2510U33RUSM), until you feel full resistance.
Remove Drive
Press the drive eject button on the 5.25 in. USM drive tray (S2510U33RUSM). The USM
Enclosure will slide away from the installation bay slightly. Grasp the Enclosure with
your ngers and slide the drive the rest of the way out.
NOTE: It is important to eject or unmount the hard drive from your computer system
before physically removing the drive. See How to Use - Disconnecting the Hard Drive
section for instructions.

Interfacing with USB Controller
1. Connect the USM to USB 3.0 interface adapter to the enclosure through the USM
port.
2. Connect the USB 3.0 cable from the USB port on the adapter to an available USB 3.0
port on your computer system.
How to Use
Connecting the Hard Drive
Once the enclosure has been attached to a computer, the drivers will install
automatically, and the inserted drive will be accessible as though it were installed
within the system.
Prior to using the drive, it will need to be formatted according to your operating
system requirements. To format your newly attached hard drive, or create partitions,
please consult the documentation that accompanied your operating system at the
time of purchase.
LED Indicator
The hard drive enclosure features an LED indicator that you can use to monitor drive
activity. The LED will ash while the hard drive is being accessed. Do not remove the
enclosure from the host computer while the LED is ashing, as it could damage the
drive or the enclosure, resulting in data loss.
Disconnecting the Hard Drive
Windows
1. Click the Safely remove Hardware and Eject Media icon, located in the task bar.
2. Click the Mass Storage Device from the list that appears.
3. Wait for the message indicating that it is now safe to remove the device.
NOTE: Removing the connected drive prior to receiving notication that it is safe to
do so, could result in losing or corrupting data stored on the drive. Once the Safe
to Remove Hardware message appears, please disconnect the enclosure from the
computer by removing the USB connection.

Mac OS X
1. To safely disconnect the attached drive from the host computer, close any windows
listing the contents of the removable drive.
2. Once all of the windows are closed, click on the USB storage icon on the desktop,
and drag it to the Trash Can icon on the desktop.
Allow 5 seconds before physically removing the enclosure/drive from the computer.
Initializing the Hard Drive
1. If the SATA Hard Drive is blank it may need to be initialized and formatted before
use. From the main Windows desktop, right-click My Computer (Computer in Vista/
7 / 8), then click Manage. In the new Computer Management window, click Disk
Management from the left window panel.
2. A dialog window should automatically appear, asking you to initialize the drive.
Depending on the version of Windows that you’re running, it will give you the
option of either creating an MBR or GPT disk. GPT (GUID partition) is required for
drives larger than 2TB but is not compatible with some older operating systems,
while MBR is supported by newer and older operating systems.
3. Once initialized, locate the disk labeled Unallocated (check the listed hard drive
capacity to conrm it’s the correct hard drive) and then right-click in the section that
says Unallocated and click New Partition.
4. Complete the on-screen instructions to create the partition.
