1. Gently press the left side of the retaining arm to release the lock mechanism, then pull the door

open to release the enclosure from the Drive Bay Frame.

2. Once the retaining arm is open, pull the drive enclosure from the Drive Bay Frame:

3. With the enclosure fully removed from the Drive Bay Frame, remove the screws on the rear panel

of the drive enclosure, and detach the rear panel from the rest of the enclosure.

4. Connect the 3.5” SATA hard drive to the connector provided by the detached rear panel, ensuring

the drive is securely fastened:

5. Fasten the hard drive to the rear panel of the enclosure, by securing it to the metal brackets

provided.

6. Fasten the Tension Clips (provided) to each side of the drive as shown below:

7. Once the drive has been fastened to the rear panel and the Tension Clips have been attached to

the sides of the drive, replace the panel and drive in the Enclosure and secure the screws

removed in step #3.

Installing the Bay in the Computer

2. Insert the Drive Enclosure into the Drive Bay Frame (see steps 1 and 2 on pg. 2), and press the

retaining arm back to it’s initial position, until it clicks closed.

3. Remove the cover of the host computer drive bay slot (5.25”) into which you wish to install the

Drive Bay Frame and Enclosure, as well as the side panels of the computer case. If you require

further instruction on this step, please consult the documentation that accompanied your computer

or computer case at the time of purchase.

WARNING: Be sure that you are properly grounded before opening your computer case or

touching any components. StarTech.com recommends that you wear an anti-static strap

when installing any computer equipment. If an anti-static strap is unavailable, discharge

yourself of any static electricity build-up by touching a large grounded metal surface (such

as the computer case) for several seconds.

WARNING: Hard drives require careful handling, especially when being transported. If you

are not careful with your hard disk, lost data may result. Always handle your hard drive and

storage device with caution.

4. Connect the SATA data connector on the rear panel of the Drive Bay Frame to the motherboard,

using the included SATA data cable, then connect the an available LP4 power connector (provided

by computer power supply) to the LP4 Power connector on the Drive Bay Frame.

5. Once the Drive Bay has been fastened to the computer case and the necessary connections have

been made, replace the side panels of the computer casing (removed in step 2) and power up the

computer.

Once the Drive Enclosure (with drive installed) has been properly installed, the enclosed drive can be

accessed as though it were installed conventionally within the computer case.

If you wish to use the Enclosure as a removable drive, simply remove the Enclosure from the host

computer by releasing the retaining arm (see step #1 on pg. 2) and sliding it out from the bay. Once

removed, connect it to an available USB 2.0 port on the host computer, using the USB 2.0 cable

provided, and connect the included power adapter to the port marked DC5V on the rear panel of the

Enclosure.

Disconnecting the Enclosure from the Host Computer

To eliminate lost data or damage to the installed drive, please ensure that you follow the correct

procedure for removing storage from the host computer.

When used as a removable hard drive (USB Connection):

Click on the Safely Remove Hardware wizard icon located near the clock in the bottom right corner

(typically) of the Windows desktop. You will be prompted to select the USB storage you wish to

remove, and click on Stop. To avoid losing data from the drive, please wait until a message balloon

appears, indicating that “it is now safe...” to remove the drive from the computer.

When removing the Enclosure from the host computer (SATA Connection)

To remove the Enclosure from a SATA connection to the host computer, simply power down the host

computer and release the retaining arm..
