1. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
• Before installation or use, be sure to carefully read all the instructions in this section for
correct and safe operation.
• Be sure to follow all the precautionary instructions in this section, which contain important
warnings and/or cautions regarding safety.
• After reading, keep this manual handy for future reference.
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if mishandled,
could result in death or serious personal injury.
WARNING
• Do not expose the unit to rain or an environment where it may be splashed by water or other
liquids, as doing so may result in re or electric shock.
• Since the unit is designed for indoor use, do not install it outdoors. If installed outdoors, the
aging of parts causes the unit to fall off, resulting in personal injury. Also, when it gets wet
with rain, there is a danger of electric shock.
• Avoid installing the Sub-Unit in locations exposed to constant vibration.
Excessive vibration can cause the Sub-Unit to fall, potentially resulting in personal injury.
• Should the following irregularity be found during use, immediately switch off the power,
disconnect the power supply plug from the AC outlet and contact your nearest TOA dealer.
Make no further attempt to operate the unit in this condition as this may cause re or electric
shock.
· If you detect smoke or a strange smell coming from the unit
· If water or any metallic object gets into the unit
· If the unit falls, or the unit case breaks
· If the power supply cord is damaged (exposure of the core, disconnection, etc.)
· If it is malfunctioning (no tone sounds)
• To prevent a re or electric shock, never open nor remove the unit case as there are high
voltage components inside the unit. Refer all servicing to qualied service personnel.
• Do not place cups, bowls, or other containers of liquid or metallic objects on top of the unit. If
they accidentally spill into the unit, this may cause a re or electric shock.
• Do not insert nor drop metallic objects or ammable materials in the ventilation slots of the
unit’s cover, as this may result in re or electric shock.
• Avoid positioning sensitive medical equipment in close proximity to the Sub-Unit magnets,
as the magnets could adversely affect the operation of such sensitive medical equipment as
pacemakers, potentially leading to patients fainting.

4
Applicable
to NF-2S only
• Use the unit only with the voltage specied on the unit. Using a voltage higher than that which
is specied may result in re or electric shock.
• Do not cut, kink, otherwise damage nor modify the power supply cord. In addition, avoid using
the power cord in close proximity to heaters, and never place heavy objects -- including the unit
itself -- on the power cord, as doing so may result in re or electric shock.
• Do not touch a power supply plug during thunder and lightning, as this may result in electric
shock.
Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if mishandled, could
result in moderate or minor personal injury, and/or property damage.
CAUTION
• Avoid installing the unit in humid or dusty locations, in locations exposed to the direct sunlight,
near the heaters, or in locations generating sooty smoke or steam as doing otherwise may
result in re or electric shock.
• To avoid electric shocks, be sure to switch off the unit’s power when connecting speakers.
• Do not operate the unit for an extended period of time with the sound distorting. Doing so
may cause the connected speakers to heat, resulting in a re.
• Avoid placing any magnetic media in close proximity to the Sub-Unit magnets, as this could
have a harmful effect on the recorded contents of magnetic cards or other magnetic media,
possibly resulting in damaged or destroyed data.
Applicable
to NF-2S only
• Never plug in nor remove the power supply plug with wet hands, as doing so may cause
electric shock.
• When unplugging the power supply cord, be sure to grasp the power supply plug; never pull
on the cord itself. Operating the unit with a damaged power supply cord may cause a re or
electric shock.
• When moving the unit, be sure to remove its power supply cord from the wall outlet. Moving
the unit with the power cord connected to the outlet may cause damage to the power cord,
resulting in re or electric shock. When removing the power cord, be sure to hold its plug to
pull.
• Make sure that the volume control is set to minimum position before power is switched on.
Loud noise produced at high volume when power is switched on can impair hearing.
• Be sure to use only the designated AC adapter and power cord. Using any other than the
designated components could result in damage or re.
• If dust accumulates on the power supply plug or in the wall AC outlet, a re may result. Clean
it periodically. In addition, insert the plug in the wall outlet securely.

5
The socket-outlet shall be installed near the equipment and the plug (disconnecting device) shall
be easily accessible.
• Switch off the power, and unplug the power supply plug from the AC outlet for safety purposes
when cleaning or leaving the unit unused for 10 days or more. Doing otherwise may cause a
re or electric shock.
• Note on the Use of Headsets: Be sure to perform the designated settings before using
headsets, as failure to follow the instructions provided could generate overly loud sound
output, possibly resulting in the temporary impairment of hearing.
Applicable
to NF-CS1 only
• Do not connect headsets directly to the Distributor.
If headsets are plugged into the Distributor, output from the headsets may become overly loud,
potentially resulting in temporary impairment of hearing.
2. GENERAL DESCRIPTION
[NF-2S]
Consisting of one Base Unit and two Sub-Units, the NF-2S Window Intercom system is designed
to relieve problems in understanding face-to-face conversations through a partition or face masks.
Since the Sub-Units’ built-in magnets allow them to be easily attached to both sides of a partition,
they can be used even in locations without ample mounting space.
[NF-CS1]
The NF-CS1 Expansion Set is designed exclusively for use with the NF-2S Window Intercom System,
and consists of a System Expansion Sub-Unit and a Distributor for sound distribution. The coverage
area for assisted conversations can be expanded by increasing the number of NF-2S Sub-Units.
3. FEATURES
[NF-2S]
• Provides full, intuitive support for simultaneous two-way conversation thanks to DSP signal
processing and wideband audio output, while eliminating dropouts in sound output.
• Compact and lightweight Sub-Unit design facilitates installation.
• Magnetically mounted Sub-Units are easily installed, eliminating the need for brackets and other
metal ttings.
• Allows easy connection of commercially available headsets*1 as a replacement sound source for
either of the pair of Sub-Units.
• External control input terminal of MUTE IN allows easy muting microphone for Sub-Unit or Headset*
which is connected to input A.
* Headsets not supplied. Please purchase separately. TOA does not have any headsets available that are
compatible with these products. (See "Connection of Commercially Available Headsets" on p. 13.)
[NF-CS1]
• Compact and lightweight design of Sub-Unit and Distributor facilitates installation.
• Magnetically mounted Sub-Units are easily installed, eliminating the need for brackets and other
metal ttings.

6
4. USAGE PRECAUTIONS
• Do not remove the rubber feet attached to the rear panel of the Sub-Units. Purposely removing
these rubber feet or using the Sub-Units with their rubber feet detached could result in unit failure.
• If howling* (acoustic feedback) occurs, lower the volume or change the mounting locations of the
Sub-Units.
* An unpleasant, high-pitched shrieking noise produced when the output signal from a speaker is
picked up by the microphone and reamplied in an endless intensifying loop.
• When installing multiple NF-2Ss in the same location or area, try to maintain at least a 1 m (3.28 ft)
distance between adjacent Sub-Units.
Follow the above procedure when using the NF-CS1 to increase the number of Sub-Units.
• If the units become dusty or dirty, wipe lightly with a dry cloth. If the units become especially dirty, wipe
lightly with a soft cloth moistened with water-diluted neutral detergent, then wipe again with a dry
cloth. Never use benzine, thinner, alcohols or chemically-treated cloths, under any circumstances.
• The recommended distance from a speaking person’s mouth to the Sub-Unit microphone is 20 –
50 cm (7.87" – 1.64 ft). If the units are too far away from the user, the voice could become difcult
to hear or the sound may not be picked up correctly. If too close, the voice output could become
distorted, or howling could occur.
• Avoid blocking the front sub-unit microphone with ngers, objects or the like, as the audio signal
cannot be correctly processed, potentially resulting in abnormal or highly distorted sound output.
A similar type of sound distortion may also be generated when the front of the Sub-Unit is blocked
due to it having fallen or other similar incident. This distortion, however, will likely vanish once the
Sub-Unit is returned to its normal installed position. (Please keep in mind that this distorted sound
does not indicate equipment failure.)
5. INSTALLATION PRECAUTIONS
[NF-2S]
• The supplied AC adapter and power cord* are designed exclusively for use with the NF-2S system.
Do not use these to power any other devices than the NF-2S system.
• Use the dedicated cables for connection between the Base Unit and the Sub-Units.
• The supplied dedicated cables are exclusively designed for use with the NF-2S. Do not use them
with any other devices than the NF-2S system.
• Do not connect any external devices to the Base Unit other than the Sub-Units, compatible headsets
or the optional Distributor.
* No AC adapter and power cord are supplied with the version W. For usable AC adapter and power
cord, consult your nearest TOA dealer.
[NF-CS1]
