Ultimaker S5 Air Manager
Repair manual: Air Manager fan
Notes
Caution: Make sure the Ultimaker S5 is turned off , and the
power cable is disconnected before you start the replacement.
Introduction
In case of the error message ER86 - Air Manager fan is unable to rotate at the desired speed, the fan of the Air Manager must be
replaced. Ultimaker continues to investigate ER86 occurrences, and requires the batch number of aff ected fans.
This document describes how to remove the fi lter housing and how to open it up to access the fan on pages 2-3. Please share the
fan batch information with your support contact. Pages 4-5 describe how to install the replacement fan and how to reassemble the
Ultimaker S5 Air Manager.

Requirements
To remove and open the fi lter housing, you only need one
tool, which was included with the Air Manager accessories:
• Hex key 2.5 mm
Tip: You do not need to use the Air Manager removal tools; the
mounting bracket will stay installed on the printer.

4. Lift each of the hinges out of the mounting
bracket, then place the hood aside
3. To remove the transparent hood, press the little
clip on either side of the mounting bracket
Tip: This clip locks the hood in place. Use your fi ngernail or a
screwdriver to push it in for step 4.
Remove the fi lter housing
5. Firmly grip the mounting bracket and place your
thumbs in the notches of the fi lter housing
Tip: Keep the clip pressed while lifting the hinge. Do
this one side at a time.
Tip: Push back against the mounting bracket while pushing the
fi lter housing forwards.
2. Disconnect the Air Manager cable at the bottom
of the fi lter housing
Tip: You can leave the cable in the stress relief for easier access when
installing the replacement fi lter housing assembly.
1. Remove the fi lter from the housing by pulling
the tab at the front towards you
5. Firmly push the fi lter housing forwards to detach
it from the mounting bracket
Note: This requires some force. The fi lter housing will come loose
with a loud snapping sound; this is normal.
Tip: The used fi lter should be handled with care; there is a risk of
the ultrafi ne particles being released. Place the used fi lter in a
(resealable) bag and close it.

Remove the fan
1. Place the fi lter housing assembly with the fan
guard facing upwards
2. Use the 2.5 mm hex key to loosen
the four M4x45 screws
Tools: 2.5 mm hex key
3. Lift the fan guard and four screws out of the
fi lter housing and place them aside
Tip: Alternatively, take out the screws one by one.
4. Turn the fi lter housing over and remove the
front part to expose the fan
5. Lift the fan out of the back part of the
fi lter housing
Note: Please share the fan’s batch number, as shown in this
photo, with your support contact. Ultimaker is collecting
data on aff ected fans.
6. Disconnect the fan cable from the PCB
Note: Do not touch the PCB while disconnecting the fan.

3. Put the wire through the slots in the housing
and route the cable as shown here
Install the new fan
4. Place the front part of the fi lter housing over the
back and align the two parts
Note: The fan wire loops back on the left side of the fan. Make sure
the wire cannot get stuck between parts of the housing.
Note: Next, carefully turn the fi lter housing over, so the back part
with the fan is facing upwards.
2. Connect the fan to the PCB on the
right side of the board
Note: Do not touch the PCB while connecting the new fan.
1. Place the fan in the back part of the fi lter
housing with the sticker facing down
6. Tighten each of the four M4x45 screws to secure
the fi lter housing parts
Tools: 2.5 mm hex key
Note: The fan cable should be on the bottom left side.
Note: Ensure the sticker is not facing upwards, as this reverses the
airfl ow in the Air Manager!
5. Align the fan guard and the four screws
with the fi lter housing
Note: The orientation of the fan guard should be as
shown in this picture

4. Align the hinges with the mounting bracket and
drop the cover into place
3. From the front of the printer, place the cover
over the fi lter housing
Reassemble the Air Manager
5. Connect the Air Manager cable to the port at the
back of the Air Manager
Tip: The hinge must be fl ush with the mounting bracket. If necessary,
slightly press down on the hinge until you hear it click into place.
Note: The fl at side of the connector faces towards the printer.
2. Gently push the fi lter completely into
the fi lter housing
Note: Make sure the fi lter is completely fl ush in the housing
1. Align the bottom of the fi lter housing
with the slots in the mounting bracket
and push it into place
6. Secure the Air Manager cable with
the stress relief clip
Note: The cable must be fully inserted and held in place with the clip
to ensure the most reliable connection.
Finished! You can now power on the Ultimaker S5 again.
