Theinstrumentcanbeusedforleveldetectionofliquidsinasafety-
relatedsystemaccordingtoIEC61508inthemodeslow demand
mode or high demand mode.

3.1 Safety function
To monitor a limit level, the sensor detects via the conditions "Vibrat-
ing element uncovered" or "Vibrating element covered"alimiting
valuedenedbythemountinglocation.
Thedetectedstatusissignalledontheoutputwith"Relay contact
open" or "Relay contact closed".
3.2 Safe state
Thesafestateoftheoutputsignalisindependentofthemodead-
justed on the sensor.
Forthesafetyfunction,onlytheNOcontactmaybeused(idlecurrent
principle)!

3.3 Prerequisites for operation
• Themeasuringsystemshouldbeusedappropriatelytakingpres-
sure, temperature, density and chemical properties of the medium
intoaccount.Theapplication-speciclimitsmustbeobserved.
• Thespecicationsaccordingtotheoperatinginstructionsmanual,
particularlythecurrentloadontheoutputcircuits,mustbekept
withinthespeciedlimits
• Toavoidafusingoftherelaycontacts,thesemustbeprotectedby
anexternalfusethattriggersat60%ofthemax.contactcurrent
load.
• Whenusedasdryrunprotection,builduponthevibratingsystem
shouldbeavoided(probablyshorterprooftestintervalswillbe
necessary)
• The instructions in chapter "Safety-related characteristics", para-
graph"Supplementary information"mustbenoted
• Allpartsofthemeasuringchainmustcorrespondtotheplanned
"Safety Integrity Level (SIL)"

accordingtoIEC61508.Thecalculationsarebasedonfailureratesof
thecomponentsaccordingtoSN 29500:
Allguresrefertoanaverageambienttemperatureof40°C(104°F)
duringtheoperatingtime.Forhighertemperatures,thevaluesshould
becorrected:

5.1 General information
Takenoteofthemountingandinstallationinstructionsintheoperating
instructions manual.
Setupmustbecarriedoutunderprocessconditions.
5.2 Adjustment instructions
Theadjustmentelementsmustbesetaccordingtothespecied
safety function:
• Slideswitchforchangeoverofthemode(min./max.)
• Slideswitchforchangeoverofthesensitivity
Thefunctionoftheadjustmentelementsisdescribedintheoperating
instructions manual.
Duringadjustmentprocess,thesafetyfunctionmustbeconsidered
asunreliable!
If necessary, you must take other measures to maintain the safety
function.
Withregardtotheswitchon/swichodelayitmustbeensuredthat
thesumofallswitchingdelaysfromthetransducertotheactuatoris
adaptedtotheprocesssafetytime!
Theinstrumentmustbeprotectedagainstinadvertentorunauthorized
adjustment!

6 Diagnostics and servicing
6.1 Behaviour in case of failure
Theinstrumentispermanentlymonitoredbyaninternaldiagnostic
system.Ifamalfunctionisdetected,therespectiveoutputsignals
changetothesafestatus(seesection"Safe status").
This condition is maintained for at least 1 second. If an error is no
longerdetected,thesafetyfunctionisperformedcorrectlyagain.
Thediagnosisintervalisspeciedinchapter"Safety-related charac-
teristics".
Iffailuresaredetected,theentiremeasuringsystemmustbeshut
downandtheprocessheldinasafestatebyothermeasures.
Themanufacturermustbeinformedoftheoccurrenceofadangerous
undetected failure (incl. fault description).

Theprocedureisdescribedintheoperatinginstructionsmanual.Note
the instructions for setup.
