Overview
Applications
This Power Focus is a control and monitoring unit for electric assembly tools.
Main components and functions
The ready-to-run fastening system consists of:
• a Power Focus controller. Two different hardware versions are available, the
Graph and the Compact. The user interface and the dimensions are the main
differences between them.
• an RBU, Rapid Backup Unit, enabling the corresponding level of function-
ality (Bronze, Silver, Gold, X, DS)
• a tool cable, available in different models and lengths
• and a tool. The Tensor S/ST/SL tool is available in different configurations
and torque ranges.
Power Focus 4000 - Compact and Graph
Controller Weight
Compact 12 kg
Graph 12 kg
Power
Power Focus operates on a single-phase 110 or 230 VAC line voltage.
Power Focus has a function for sensing the line voltage automatically. This
means that the Power Focus automatically switches to the voltage you connect
to.
Line voltage
90-120 VAC
180-240 VAC
Frequency
50-60 Hz
Ambient temperature
5-40 °C (41-104 °F)
Normal environmental conditions
This standard applies to equipment designed to be safe at least under the fol-
lowing conditions:
• Indoor use
• Altitude up to 2 000 m

Power Focus 4000 EN Product information

• Maximum relative humidity 80% for temperatures up to 31°C decreasing
linearly to 50% relative humidity at 40°C
• Transient over voltages typically present on the mains supply
Power consumption
Power consumption depends on the speed and torque of the tool. High speed
and torque increase power consumption.
Tool Standby [W] Free running [W]
S4/S7 and ST3-6 20 150
S9, ST8-10 and ETX 20 200
Mains fuse
Recommended mains fuses (power outlet):
Tool Mains voltage [V] Fuse [A]
S4/S7 and ST3-6 110 15
230 10
S9, ST8-10 and ETX 110 20
230 16
If you are running Power Focus as a standalone unit and trigger the tools manu-
ally (random) it is normally possible to connect up to three Power Focus units
to one power drop. If you are synchronising the spindles you will need one drop
for each Power Focus unit.
Wiring
All connections except for the USB plug are located on the rear of the unit. See
the dimensions drawing for location of the USB plug. If it is necessary to
change the plug on the mains cable, use the following wiring guide:
Color Input
Brown or black Live
Blue Neutral
Green and yellow Protective ground
Warning! The power cable is the main disconnecting device. If you open a
Power Focus unit first pull out the power cable to make sure that the unit is free
from electric power.
Warning! Do not use galvanically insulated line voltage since it disrupts the
function of the Ground Fault Interrupter (GFI). The test button for the GFI acti-
vates the GFI even if the Power Focus is supplied with power from an isolated
transformer.

mounting on a wall, make sure to use correct wall bracket (plug and screw).
If mounting on a steel plate, make sure that the thickness of the plate is min-
imum 2 mm.
2. Open the locking mechanism
3. Open the controller slowly towards you, not to cause injury or damage
4. Connect the tool cable, power cable etc.
5. Connect the RBU
6. Close the controller and lock it

Operation
Ergonomics
Ergonomic guidelines
Consider your workstation as you read through this list of general ergonomic
guidelines and see if you can identify areas for improvement in posture, compo-
nent placement, or work environment.
• Take frequent breaks and change work positions frequently.
• Adapt the workstation area to your needs and the work task.
• Adjust for convenient reach range by determining where parts or tools
should be located to avoid static load.
• Use workstation equipment such as tables and chairs appropriate for the
work task.
• Avoid work positions above shoulder level or with static holding during as-
sembly operations.
• When working above shoulder level, reduce the load on the static mus-
cles by reducing the weight of the tool, using for example torque arms,
hose reels or weight balancers. You can also reduce the load on the static
muscles by holding the tool close to the body.
• Make sure to take frequent breaks.
• Avoid extreme arm or wrist postures, particularly for operations requir-
ing a degree of force.
• Adjust for convenient field of vision by minimizing movement of the eyes
and head during the work task.
• Use the appropriate lighting for the work task.
• Select the appropriate tool for the work task.
• Use ear protection equipment in noisy environments.
• Use high-quality inserted tools or consumables to minimize exposure to ex-
cessive levels of vibration.
• Minimize exposure to reaction forces.
• When cutting:
A cut-off wheel can get stuck if the wheel is either bent or if it is not
guided properly. Make sure to use the correct flanges for cut-off wheels
and avoid bending the wheel during cut-off operation.
• When drilling:
The drill might stall when the drill bit breaks through. Makes sure you
use support handles if the stall torque is too high. The safety standard
ISO11148 part 3 recommends using something to absorb the reaction
torque above 10 Nm for pistol grip tools and 4 Nm for straight tools.
• When using direct-driven screw or nutrunners:
Reaction forces depend on tool setting and joint characteristics. The abil-
ity to bear reaction forces depends on the operator’s strength and pos-
ture. Adapt the torque setting to the operator's strength and posture and
use a torque arm or reaction bar if the torque is too high.
• Use dust extraction system or mouth protection mask in dusty environments.
